I've had a long-standing love affair with shoes and because winter footwear is my all time favourite I wanted to share some of the key trends for Winter 2022/23. Of course Winter footwear has to be super practical because there's nothing worse than cold, wet feet BUT that doesn't mean it has to be boring (as you'll see in today's episode). I'm also thrilled to share the news that as of today (19 December, 2022) SSENSE is having a bumper sale where so many items are on sale with some going as far as 70% off - bargain! I tend to wait until this time of year to buy my timeless pieces from SSENSE because I know they will last me for many years but I can often pick up some real bargains too. I live in Canada. Our winters are no joke. I have a pair of patent leather doc’s that I have had for years and years at this point. The patent leather is super easy to keep clean (we get a lot of salt muck on our roads and sidewalks) and unless my feet are completely submerged in water for more than a few seconds, they stay water tight. They keep my feet pretty warm with just a thicker pair of socks but when it gets really chilly, I just slip in my lamb skin, leather soled inserts (I put them in most of my shoes when it gets cold .. they are super comfy, better than memory foam or gel inserts, absorb moisture without getting smelly .. just love them 😃) and my feet are toasty warm. They have good grips on them as well so I don’t have to worry about slipping on icy surfaces. And they go with everything. Love them. I also have a pair of the Prada inspired chunky Chelsea boot that I also slip those insoles into and they are super warm and with a protective spray on them, they’re water resistant. A big one on my wish list is a pair of converse leather high tops with the Sherpa lining. I mean, I have a pair of heavy duty Sorrel winter boots for serious outdoor business which here in Canada are stylish out of necessity 😂. I had a pair of Prospector leather hiking boots for well over a decade and have regretted not replacing them. This reminded me to put them on my list again. They’re always a good boot to have on hand and can be surprisingly versatile.

Doc Martens are my go to for winter. I love their more colourful ones. I alwasy get compliments for them because they really make an otherwise boring winter ourfit special. I have ones that are almost 10 years old with rose embroidery.

In Australia we have a company called Merry People and they make the best rubber boots and clogs in the most fabulous colours. Super comfortable and so stylish
I usually love most footwear trends, that’s how I keep the outfits from my classic, forever wardrobe looking more current, with trendier footwear and accessories, but of good quality. The only ones here that I don’t love are the fuzzies, and I’m selling all my cowboy boots while they’re hot. I decided that they’re just not me anymore, I overdosed on Boho/Western for two decades and don’t want to go back to those styles now, at my age (62). Thanks for the great footwear trend update, Leonie, you put in the time to assess trends for us that we don’t always have. I would love one on other accessories, too!

I just got a new pair of Sinclair Dr. Martin boots for Christmas. I absolutely love them! I think there's a place for all shoes! I love my nine west knee high stiletto boots, ankle high heels, my chunky fuzzy uggs, sneakers and now my docs!!!
