Dress girl here! And dress over the pants has grown on me when I frame it like wearing a trench coat: my favs in this video were the green dress with jeans and white floral dress and the one with the plaid bottom. Appreciate the video 🎉❤

Dresses Over Pants success depends on the combination of fabrics that slide over each other and hang well. Wide leg pants seem more up tote than narrow legs. I take inspiration from traditional Indian layers and printed silks with great colors. On the quirky side, Korean men's tuxedos are a less draped and more modern source of inspiration .

Love these, especially over the pants. I wear a lot like that. It’s easy, gives more casual edgy look to the dresses that are little bit too much. Sheer dresses , pairing with longer , above knees jacket or vest . Have a blessed day🙏❤️

I have lived through most of these styles 1 or 2 times at least!! I loved loved Mary Quant . Her mini dresses in color block and mustard tights were everything way back. She even brought out the cropped wide leg "short" pant. Like right below the knee.and our favorite Frye boots! Such good stuff. I love the very long shirt dresses (opened part way down) with a fuller straight leg jean. When all this stuff comes around again and again we at least are in the days of putting our own style on them. We have come a long way and it is freedom to express and feel good with our choices. Dresses are a win for me , too, Leonie. Thanks again, Cheryl

It’s been a longstanding tradition type wear in places like India where I’ve seen the women with a wide legged linen pant with a longer tunic and it looks really nice as an outfit.
But to just go put on some jeans and then a random dress on top is too much for me. Besides I live in hot as hell W. Texas where we live by the motto of less is best. Layering isn’t an option during the summer

I remember in the 90’s seeing an older lady in a coastal town wearing a long sleeveless tunic over wide legged white pants. The tunic was about calf length. I thought she looked fantastic, and I’ve looked very favorably on dress/tunic over pants ever since. ❤ Before then I’d only associated dress over pants with the 80’s.

I wore leggings and skinny jeans under a full skirted long sleeved denim dress (fabric was flowy not stiff) with knee high boots. You couldn’t see the jeans, and it added a layer of warmth in winter. And extended the dress season for this girly gal who loves flowy dresses!

  • @carpiediem2

I've gravitated towards dresses in the last couple of years. They're still not the dominant attire, but they're certainly taking more wardrobe space than before. Largely because they work hard and it's easy, one and done, but I also have high expectations of them meaning I am a lot more fussy. The dress over trousers is a delicate balance, IMO. The combination of materials and proportions means there's a lot to consider and potential to go wrong hence why I believe it's a hard sell. My favs from your examples are delicate dresses with high slits with tougher materials for trousers and shirt dresses which I've worn in the past as I've not always been comfortable with the length and wanted to retain some modesty. For practical reasons, someone once told me at work, she always wears dresses as it's less washing and ironing end of the week 😅

Shirt dresses and certain tunic like dresses make sense over jeans. (Aka longer versions of shirts and longer version of t-shirt styles, cultures that were tunics over trouser do this anyway) But the full on actual dresses on jeans... Too much. Like a purposeless extra layer solely to be trendy and turn heads but no other meaning. Doesn't seem organic.🤔

Hello lovely Leonie, when you show pictures of various trends, e.g. dresses over pants, could you please find pix that are less wacky? They always seem to be a bit extreme, like in the examples you showed. I don't know anyone who dresses in such an eccentric (clownish) way. You like trends a lot but the average person is a bit less adventurous and I can only think of one picture of dresses over pants that was wearable, chic nd didn't look like an attention-seeker way of wearing this trend. Most people like simplicity. Thank you.
