Rush didn’t tour western Canada for grace under pressure or hold your fire, and I missed seeing them in Edmonton on the power windows tour because of a massive blizzard that hit that day and we couldn’t make the 6 hr drive. I finally got to see them in Calgary on the Presto tour. Clockwork Angels tour was incredible to see because they brought out lots of their 80’s stuff that i never got to see on those tours.
This song is special to me as well and I am so grateful that I was at this show and just as grateful that someone captured it on video and posted it here.
I still cannot believe that Geddy hit that note at 5:42 at his age. I’m a singer and I idolize the hell out of this man, what an insane and consistent talent.
I got off work and decided to go to this exact show, but didn't have a ticket. Paid $150 cash from someone selling on the street and at the time that was a huge chunk of cash. Glad I did, this concert is one of my great memories!
KILLER VIDEO!!! Love the choral effects and church bells during the final chorus!!! Gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it!! Also great to see Alex singing backup!!
This is by far the best song from Power Windows! The power of a journey. I’ve always found this song so motivating and able to uplift me. Thanks Professor Peart!
I respect your opinion, but Rush is superior. I love Pink Floyd! No one has a better rhythm section than Rush. Geddy and Neil work their way through a song like no one else
Agreed. Rush is the most talented band to ever habit this planet. All the stars must align to get the chemistry these guys have. Their music is different in so many ways than any other band. You either get it or you don't.
It's unbelievable how many other bands and artists list RUSH as their inspiration. This band plays their music and not what anyone wants them to. They play with integrity and honesty. And they are good, decent people without drama and all the typical garbage. I love the story from Gene Simmons when RUSH was opening for Kiss and he went to check on them at the hotel and they were just sitting around reading books instead of partying with drugs and women. Really says a lot about them.
This is one of my all time favorite Rush songs and I was so psyched when I saw them perform it in Chicago (along with "Camera Eye" of course). I love Alex doing the windmills in this song though. It's always how I imagined him playing it.
I love the bootleg versions of this song from the TMT because they always have that moment like at 2:31 where the unsuspecting filmers camera shakes as the bombs scare the crap out of them lol!!!
The more time that passes since they were active, the more amazing it becomes to me to be able to stop and think, "wow, I was there to see them in person".
Watching old rush videos makes me so mad of what I missed. Im 17 and I had many opportunities to see them during my life, but I wasn't a full on fan til only really a year or two ago. RIP Neil, you are truly missed, from the young rush fans around the world
@MickAv8R.. Thank you so much bro for posting this.. Out of 376 shows that I've seen since the age of 12.. Particular show stands out as probably in the top 3. Not because of what I did... As I indicated in the last posting "FreeWill" But the memories that are seared into my mind's eye.. Of course it makes me cry Because these guys the best in the world are the fabric of all our lives.. And since I lost my wife of 26 years.. We are both Rush heads.. It's bitter sweet.. She is the coolest Wife.. Colleague and partner in crime... Told her that I was going to the show and she said you have my blessings you deserve it honey.. So thank you thank you everyone.. Thank you Rush .. 4 recognizing The goodness in all of us.. And that we all deserve to feel good with love in our hearts and Endorphins 'Rush ing' n bathing our collective brains.in Sticky Brilliance.'Godspeed..♡°♡
Your comment made my night. This solo always has and will always give me the chills. Plus, let's face it, the explosion at ..." lucky shot in the dark..." is simply great showmanship. Cheers. Be well. And RIP Professor.
+stevedrums you definitely are getting their natural sound for sure. I was also down front for the Irvine show on that tour. I also noticed on that tour that the house speakers on the stage had a more direct natural sound than the hanging cabinets do mostly because they are firing right at your head when you are in the front rows.
The other big difference is being at Red Rocks, the best amphitheater acoustically with partial arena echo making a clean sounding concert when compared to standard amphitheaters which suffer more from wind distortion of sound and no echo at all. Being at 2nd row here certainly makes a direct impression with drums predominant over all songs heard.
May 17th 1986... Pacific Coliseum, Vancouver BC Canada. The Place went Nuts when they performed this track! Funny thing, the place went Nuts with every song! It was one of the best shows, I have ever been to. And I've been to many. RUSH RULE! Looking Forward to their Show in 2011! Long Live Rock & RUSH!
even if Geddy can't get his voice up as high as he used to, he can actually get it down deeper in his gut, making it sound good in a different way. he's still good singer, not flat like so many people even newbies these days are in concerts when not using thier stupid "vocoders".
I saw this show last night in Pittsburgh. I've seen Rush three times and I would say from a performance/energy level I've never seen them this on fire.
Rush@ Red Rocks, yeah,oh yeah! I know I'm not the only Fan that misses them touring, But we were so lucky to have had them for 41 years on the road. I saw there first show in Denver and there last show in Denver and so many in between! Thanks RUSH !
AWESOME VIDEO! I am learning this on the drums for my Tribute to Rush and this is going to be so helpful! I couldn't help but notice that poor security guard has to sit with his back to the best band in History! That's torture! He didn't even flinch during the gun shot, which scares me everytime! haha
Wow,TOTALLY INCREDIBLE View from where You were at MickAv8r!!! You could almost read "Pro-Mark" on Neil's sticks, you were so close!!! LOL. Incredible angle!!! Thanks for posting!!! :)
Thanks for getting Alex at 4:30 and on....that's great to watch. And the way you captured all of them at some point during the instrumental part is fantastic.
This is just so incredibly epic! I was at the P/G tour when they did this at an encore as a "sneak peak" at the next album. The "jogging guy" laser piece is forever etched in my mind.
I still have fond rememberances of this night, a spoke with it to a couple of other fans last night. Cinema Strangiato will hopefully be the annual event it mentions it should be.
I was there too - I was getting very choked up during this song as it reminded me of my late father who ran his one and only marathon shortly before he died, just before this song was released.
I know this was just one of the tens of thousands of times the played "marathon", but when I saw them in Sacramento in the summer of 1990 it was the closing song and there was so much energy, and of course it was very special.
@freewill51 and @MickAv8r Thanks guys...I now remember that the signature series are replicas of the '72 bass...I've got one myself and it struck me that the necks on Ged's current basses are much wider...now I realise why!
Seen Rush many times since the 80’s. This was a very unique perspective to hear and see with them. Very jealous of anyone to had seen them this close and this personal from the front rows.
I was up this close at this very show (albeit off to the very side). Truly an amazing night, and this is one of my all-time favorite Rush songs and it's the only time I've ever seen them perform it live (seen them 5 times). Didn't shoot any video but I had my DSLR with a much too big to be allowed in with lens that I managed to sneak in. Almost got kicked out, but I got some killer shots.
We can all agree, as Rush fans that they are the best band ever, in many ways. The Rush haters cannot deny the expertise of their musicianship and longevity, even if they don't like the music
@readinguni99 The signature series is a replica of the Black '72. The neck is the same. In fact around 2007 the neck of the '72 needed to be replaced and they used a 'Signature' model neck for that fix.
What seems so good about this venue is that you can hear the band from the stage levels. It's also the only place I can think of where the band is on the same level as the audience.
I fully agree that the set list didn't change during Time Machine Tour. But, years ago I had seen them 2 night in a row for Grace Under Pressure & the 2nd. night was different from the 1st. night. I also have many VHS Boots from the same Tours with different set lists. I saw Rush In Apr. in Chicago & my friend that I went with saw them last year for the same Tour. He said it was the "Exact" same set list. After the show Howard gave me a set list for my Birthday!!!
The "Shot in the Dark" at 2:33 was funny, a few seconds before, I was pulling back the zoom to go wide angle for that explosion, totally knew it was coming but then got distracted by something and was looking away when it hit thus all the camera shake.
Rest In Peace Neil. Power Windows tour was my first time seeing Rush live. Marathon has a special place in my heart.
I'm so jealous XD
Same Power Windows 1st time, 1985. Saw them twice after, such a brilliant band
Mine as well.I saw them at The Cow Palace in SF.My ears rang for three days! Loved every minute!
This song is special to me as well and I am so grateful that I was at this show and just as grateful that someone captured it on video and posted it here.
I still cannot believe that Geddy hit that note at 5:42 at his age. I’m a singer and I idolize the hell out of this man, what an insane and consistent talent.
How do yiu see the time on the video
Because is Geddy Lee. Because are Rush.
This show was much better than the one released on the live album. Geddy sounds fresher.
Was at this concert, my god. Such a beautiful night, it was meant to be. I will NEVER forget this night. Rush, greatest band of all time
One of the greatest bands ever, playing at one of the greatest venues ever, playing one of their best songs. Enjoy! RIP Neil 😢
I miss Rush... terribly... they may have retired as a band but I will never retire as one of their fans.
I got off work and decided to go to this exact show, but didn't have a ticket. Paid $150 cash from someone selling on the street and at the time that was a huge chunk of cash. Glad I did, this concert is one of my great memories!
39 shows seen ....
No one does it better than these guys.
RIP PEART.
KILLER VIDEO!!! Love the choral effects and church bells during the final chorus!!! Gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it!! Also great to see Alex singing backup!!
shot in the dark BOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!! love that part
freak the hell out of me when i saw them in Irvine
Rush never flinched. Never lost a beat when it went boom.
Pyro John at work!!
Saw this tour 6 times.. Loved the shot in the dark!
. Also had same moment in Far Cry..you can can hear the circuits blowing! Boom .
My favorite rush song
This is by far the best song from Power Windows! The power of a journey. I’ve always found this song so motivating and able to uplift me. Thanks Professor Peart!
Someone tell me this isn't the greatest band to have ever graced the earth. I dare you.
I respect your opinion, but Rush is superior. I love Pink Floyd! No one has a better rhythm section than Rush. Geddy and Neil work their way through a song like no one else
There's no doubt we'll never see another band of this incredible stature... as musicians, songwriters and as people!
Agreed. Rush is the most talented band to ever habit this planet. All the stars must align to get the chemistry these guys have. Their music is different in so many ways than any other band. You either get it or you don't.
there is no band- not even Zep that can touch the musicanship of this band in Music History ever- not even Elvis- not the stones or anyone else Ever
It's unbelievable how many other bands and artists list RUSH as their inspiration. This band plays their music and not what anyone wants them to. They play with integrity and honesty. And they are good, decent people without drama and all the typical garbage. LOL! Thought the same thing.
I thought I was going to cry during the chorus of this song when I saw them in Vancouver. It was a dream come true to see Rush live.
Such a powerful anthem. One of my favorite RUSH, really of any band, song of all time.
Couldn't agree more. This one keeps Lifeson busy playing live.
The more time that passes since they were active, the more amazing it becomes to me to be able to stop and think, "wow, I was there to see them in person".
It's been a long one for me. My last show was Roll the Bones. I only saw GUP, PW, Presto, and RTB. But every time was amazing.
Person like you should be immortalized for putting such rarity on youtube!!!
One of my favorite Rush songs!
This is the best Rush cover band I have ever seen in my whole life !!!!!!!
Now.......
That's funny !!¡!!
lmao @ cover band. 🤣😆😂
So thankful to have seen this tour, as well as Roll the Bones, and Moving Pictures.
Watching old rush videos makes me so mad of what I missed. Im 17 and I had many opportunities to see them during my life, but I wasn't a full on fan til only really a year or two ago. RIP Neil, you are truly missed, from the young rush fans around the world

I think this is my most favorite guitar solo of all time.
Your comment made my night. This solo always has and will always give me the chills. Plus, let's face it, the explosion at ..." lucky shot in the dark..." is simply great showmanship. Cheers. Be well. And RIP Professor.
You can actually hear the drums from the stage rather than the mics. Sounds much more like they are "supposed to" sound.
+stevedrums you definitely are getting their natural sound for sure. I was also down front for the Irvine show on that tour. I also noticed on that tour that the house speakers on the stage had a more direct natural sound than the hanging cabinets do mostly because they are firing right at your head when you are in the front rows.
Neil had great drums on their final tours. Thought the sound was nicely balanced, not too bright and not too dark. Very full-bodied sound.
This is my favorite song, has been since the 80s. I don't think it gets any better than this.
All those years and now Headlong Flight. Im so excited about Rush. I love Marathon too. One of my favorites.
The double floor Toms at the end gives me chills !!!😎😎😎😎😄😄😄😄🎼🎼🎼🎼🎸🎸🍺🍺
May 17th 1986... Pacific Coliseum, Vancouver BC Canada. The Place went Nuts when they performed this track! Funny thing, the place went Nuts with every song!

Thank you so much for posting this - I was at this concert too and this song was the highlight of the night for me.
Amazing song. I love how they picked up the tempo for this song on that tour.
Agree about the tempo thing. Ive always felt like they played many of their songs just a very slight bit too slow.
Thanks for recording this!
even if Geddy can't get his voice up as high as he used to, he can actually get it down deeper in his gut, making it sound good in a different way. he's still good singer, not flat like so many people even newbies these days are in concerts when not using thier stupid "vocoders".
the lyrics and music alone is Mind Blowing.......makes you speechless just to know how great RUSH is.....Musically, Spiritually, Lyrically
Great job filming that. It made me feel awesome for the first time in months. Thanks so much to you and yours. Best of luck to y'all!!!
One of my fav songs to work out to. Great shot of Alex and Neil during the guitar solo!
Great video. Awesome seats you had!! Thanks for sharing this moment in time with us.
RUSH = the real deal 👍
Awesome HD video! Thanks so much from a fan since 1977!
Idk what phone or what recorded that but the quality was out of this world. Well done. Killer seats!
Great audio and camera quality! 🇨🇦
I saw this show last night in Pittsburgh. I've seen Rush three times and I would say from a performance/energy level I've never seen them this on fire.
this is the best video of this tour i have seen...what a veiw! great quality and job filming!!
Thank you so much for posting this! God bless you, NEP!
Rush@ Red Rocks, yeah,oh yeah! I know I'm not the only Fan that misses them touring, But we were so lucky to have had them for 41 years on the road. I saw there first show in Denver and there last show in Denver and so many in between! Thanks RUSH !
Saw them for the second time last night here in Phoenix
. First one was at the Vegas show of the same tour. LOVE EM. GREAT SHOW.
This is great! Thank you for sharing! RIP MR PEART.
AWESOME VIDEO! I am learning this on the drums for my Tribute to Rush and this is going to be so helpful! I couldn't help but notice that poor security guard has to sit with his back to the best band in History! That's torture! He didn't even flinch during the gun shot, which scares me everytime! haha
Great Performance! Saw them in Austin,TX on the following tour. Incredible!!!! Have this on iTunes (the doc.)..
Bravo! Thanks Mick for the quality video and sacrificing your live experience to record this spectacle of musicianship! I was there but in 14th row.
Great video quality dude!!!
Thanks!
You are my go-to man for bootlegs!!! Best quality ever!!! And you even have my best friend Roger Daltrey on there!
I saw this tour...9th row by Alex, in Dallas. Loved the acoustic tone of those drums.
Awesome video awesome sound awesome seats wow unreal
Great quality video, 2nd row!!!!! My God!!!! Just so INCREDIBLE!!!
I was there!!!!!! YAY!! And im only 12 lol! fav band, my dad introduced me to this band

I saw this tour twice and it was amazing!
i love how you can hear alex, they always cut him out on the dvds and cds
I know. I could hear him singing when they came to Winnipeg in 2008. But on video, it's dubbed over with Geddy's vocals.
Just incredible!!!
Thank you.
I was there this night! I was so happy to hear them play this song. I'm a runner... :)
Wow, to be that close is something I never experienced, great video.
This is seriously one of the most inspiring songs I've ever heard.
very inspiring song
Check out the version from A show of hands. That’s the first time I heard the song Marathon and it’s a very moving song
Awesome video man!! Great Job!
We've always wanted to see Rush at Red Rocks!
Actually this is a really good recording. Good job! You can really get a sense of Neil banging away at them skins there.
I know this was just one of the tens of thousands of times the played "marathon", but when I saw them in Sacramento in the summer of 1990 it was the closing song and there was so much energy, and of course it was very special.
Wow, the tempo was perfect. I felt they had been slowing stuff down but this just felt perfect.
Great footage.
"First you need endurance,
First you've got to last".
The genius that is Neil Peart.
Awesome footage!
@freewill51 and @MickAv8r Thanks guys...I now remember that the signature series are replicas of the '72 bass...I've got one myself and it struck me that the necks on Ged's current basses are much wider...now I realise why!
Let me just say : "I love your vids!!" Great Camera!! Audio is Great!!! love love love it!
Excellent job
Great sound on this vid for a camera!!
Thanks!!
Seen Rush many times since the 80’s. This was a very unique perspective to hear and see with them. Very jealous of anyone to had seen them this close and this personal from the front rows.

I've seen Rash on the Hold Your Fire and Power Windows tours and I swear this tour was ten times better than either.
What seems so good about this venue is that you can hear the band from the stage levels. It's also the only place I can think of where the band is on the same level as the audience.
Rush- they *still* out-perform their grand-kids at age 60. Respect.
Its hard to believe a 58 year old man can beat on them drums like that. Go Neil!!!
Fantastic images. Great Neil Peart, RIP.
Great seats dude❤ Oh and RUSH IS THE GREATEST BAND EVER.😊
Those explosives scared the shit out of me i cant even imagine irl lol
Such a unique perspective at Red Rocks...the crowd looking down at the band.
The greatest progressive rock drummer to ever have lived! Cornelius RULES!
Still one of my all time favorite Rush tunes.
Seen them play this at Newcastle. Awesome
@readinguni99 Geddy said that his neck was shaved down very much from stock and the signature series necks were "very close" to the one on his bass.
Masters of their craft. Long live the kings.
its funny when I first saw this live in like 88 I didnt think I would ever get it fully now it was my fav song and reminds me of growing up
The "Shot in the Dark" at 2:33 was funny, a few seconds before, I was pulling back the zoom to go wide angle for that explosion, totally knew it was coming but then got distracted by something and was looking away when it hit thus all the camera shake.
That looked a great gig ...Alex nailed the solo big time....
@jfl440 they played it both nights. The sets were identical. Rush does not change up their set lists from night to night.
