As a Vancouver Island resident, I can say you are doing a great job of reflecting what living here is all about....warts and all. Appreciate you getting off the Island Highway and into the backroads.
Hi Gazza. I live in Georgia and am originally from Central Illinois. My son lives in Everett, Wa. I did a motorcycle trip in 2016 to the Seattle area, where my son and I camped on the Olympic Peninsula. I didn't venture to Vancouver Island that time, but will one day soon, as I have plans to make another trip there soon, to celebrate the July 4th holiday with my son and new daughter-in-law. Currently I ride a Yamaha FJR1300a but am considering an ADV bike. I really enjoy Sterling's eye and perspectives of adventure. The northwest is an area that everyone should see at least once in their lifetime. Sterling makes a meager traveling existence something that we can all appreciate. Adventure lives in the soul.
This was great! Really appreciated you sharing your process of filming. Great little campsite you found in Port Hardy. Proud of my fellow islanders for showing you such a friendly and hospitable time 👍🏻 Cheers!
Glad to hear you found the local hospitality to be so friendly & welcoming. It confirms some legitimacy to the world renowned stereotype of “nice” Canucks
Your Laundry shot reminded me of a "Dad" story. We were hand trolling for salmon near Excursion Inlet, SE Alaska. We stopped at the cannery to shower and wash clothes. We didn't have many clothes with us, so Dad walked up to the laundry room and threw his clothes in a washer, along with the clothes he was wearing. He was sitting naked in a plastic chair, waiting for the washer/dryer to get done when a local woman walked in (Dad thought it was a "mens room only". Needless to say Dad was embarrassed as they shared the facility That was about 1978.
Sterling, like you I love travelling on my motorbike and have often thought about recording some of it. Having worked in television most of my professional life, I understand the process involved in filming a ride, especially if you want more than just the GoPro vision from your helmet. Your video today highlights just how much work is involved. That sequence you began with, setting up the camera to get the front on shot and putting the drone in the air covered just 37-seconds of your 14-minute story. I admire your dedication to producing such high quality and professional videos; you standout in the RUclips world.
Very enjoyable video...glad your GS didn't get stuck again after all the prep work with cameras to get your departure shots. Very beautiful & tidy camp ground you found in Port Hardy.
Just rewatched your episode fro 2 years ago when you had your spill in the desert of Colorado ( episode 20) and man, that took some determination. That’s the take away from your travels….when the going gets tough…. You know the rest! Really inspiring for determined solo motorcycle riders. You have given me the inspiration to travel from the U.K. to southern Spain. Cheers dude.
I visited Port Hardy for work nearly 20 years ago. Was February but no snow on the ground. I learned that temperatures stayed pretty constant through the year. Beautiful little town. And yea, “the lake” is short hand for any lake in Canada. If you want more roads like those, come to Ontario and Québec. They go on forever!
Thank you for showing us your camera set up. Really appreciate the work that goes into your shots. My wife is going moto-camping with me for the first time Tuesday into Wednesday then we are heading to your inn on Thursday! We were just there 2 weeks ago and got to meet you for the first time. Hope to see you again this week!!!
WOW. I had no idea the effort it takes to do just one shot. How you’re not more stressed out is amazing. I know for me, a bottle of wine certainly helps 😂.
Loving all the great content lately Sterling. I just want to model my motorcycle adventure just like yours. Out for adventure, great roads, unbeatable scenery, great food, a great beer, and continuous freedom. I love the cinematography, everything is top notch.
Port Hardy is a very beautiful place. I worked there for a while years ago...The forest industry has taken a hard hit there but people are resilient. I hope once you get to Bella Coola you continue your exploration of British Columbia
its easy to comment when sitting on an armchair ... but at 1:13 I would have put some brushes, wood sticks under thread wheel to have some traction. congrats anyway, you manage to get off from that unusual parking. I would have not slept that night..... and yes, that drone is a very powerful weapon - superb views for us
I loved this video. I dabble in filming while vehicle base camping, don't ever edit it, but like to capture the moments. Starting to get into motorcycle camping and capture that as well. It's time consuming but worth it. Hope to one day build half as good content as you do. Thank you!
Hey Sterling, It looks like you were finally able to tap into the wonder that is Vancouver Island. Your ORBDR video made it debut, and it is terrific. As always! My other thought was that you must have been exhausted as you resumed your AZ to BC trip, which may account for some of the lows you were experiencing. Folks image that when we’re on a vacation, or even a grand adventure like yours, that every day is to be a positive experience. Not so. Even amid the freedom of being on the open road, we are all vulnerable to “travelers fatigue”, and in your case, adding in the rigors of documenting as much as you can with video, not to mention 3 exhausting weeks of physical riding in Oregon, you need some down time to recover. I’d urge you to put the cameras away for a couple of days, get some sleep and find a place to stay put and recover... get laundry done, sleep a bit more, let your body rest, and you mind refocus on the spirit of adventure that you’re seeking. You deserve that. I hope perhaps Bella Coola offers you such a place before you begin the next phase of your AZ to BC adventure. You inspire us all with your documentaries, but you need to take care of yourself. Happy trails. AD
LOVED the video. Thanks for sharing the adventure. You left me curious as to how you got the rear tire out of the sand. I enjoy motorcycle camping and gleaned some great ideas from you.
That was a great camp spot I would have stayed the extra day to chill out after so much riding, the tips for filming are great, it was how I first found your channel a while ago , I was searching for motorcycle filming ideas, thanks again. Pete Western Australia
Another great episode! Thank you for sharing your process. Sometimes a great 3-5 seconds shot takes quite a time to setup, not to mention the thought process that goes into it beforehand.
It’s insane how much work you have to put into literally every shot. I’m an amateur photographer and have a sense as what goes into these gorgeous scenes, but doing this solo is next level. The setting up, walking back, putting away, downloading files, backing up, clearing cards, trying to keep multiple devices charged only while the engine is running and all while dealing with dust or rain must be absolutely exhausting. I’m in BC and was planning to do the North Island 1000 this summer, but I want to enjoy myself and will not try to attempt what you look make look so effortless so I can enjoy myself 😂
Good vid. Always interesting the different takes on customer accommodations. I've seen a lot in 50 years on the road. Times sure have changed. Still basically a place to spenf a few hours and regroup for the ride.
@5:34 are you really saying that you are using the sticks to follow yourself? I thought that Mavic had a 'follow me' function? If not, I appreciate even MORE your cinematic shots from above while driving a motorcycle AND controlling the drone as well, MULTI-talented individual right there!
Top notch professionalism as always and thank you for sharing, as always, looking forward to the next full of surprises, adventurous episode. Thanks and be safe!
This is the type of video I've been looking for since subscribing, thank you Sterling !!!! Also there is a hidden camp I found, last year, same time as you, a "few" clicks south of you on that side of the island, solar hotwater, great fishing, nice people, exceptional view .. sshhhhhh next time
I am following u from Thailand and I have a couple of bikes, one a sport cruiser the other a small ADV. I have recently returned from Laos and Vietnam(now covid is over and the borders have opened). Your hotel prices are horrendous, but that last camp ground was amazing value in comparison. Over here I only use hotels or home stays, mostly not more than 30 dollars US mostly much less. Road side small noodle shops and restaurants are also cheaper, but everything is relative, and that is why I came to live here, being originally from the uk. Your videos are excellent and I much admire your perseverance in getting it right and not giving up.
I loved how Sterling still did some cinematic shots getting his helmet on while his DSLR was running away. It’s pretty wild how a “simple” drive by like that can take 5-10 minutes to set up for a 5 second clip in the Final Cut.
Sterling you needed a off day it would have been a great place to just stay put and take in a great camp site for free ! No one around Around Bend Oregon out on 2 wheels
This is a fun video Sterling! You were funny and I loved that you find the people in Canada (I'm a Vislander)friendly. Don't forget you are visiting small towns, where you will often find a friendlier more laid back vibe. After watching the Oregon BDR last night I can totally understand how you would of been a bit burnt out by the whole process of filming and riding that route. Whew! Thanks again for producing such awesome videos!!🧡
Thanks Jojo - glad you got to se the ORBDR movie. It was tough filming that whole movie then continuing on my own journey like you said, but I'm glad I was able to do it!
Stirling having a shave...never seen that before...ever....great video again...I surprised that you can get a remote for the still camera so as you get on the bike you can switch ON the record function?
I'm betting you dropped her on the second lift, hence the quick cut, haha. I never lift my bikes like that, haven't had to anyways... yet ;) Enjoy the Island, Cache - advrider in Fanny Bay
Sterling, I am r e a l l y enjoying this series. I have learned so much from you! I am wondering if you do ay editing on the trip or it is all done upon return? I am glad you pushed through that little funk you were experiencing...I knew you would! Stay safe! -Al-near-Seattle..
You found your mojo. Your videos improved drastically since your lillte melt down. Where in Arizona is your Boutique Hotel/Campground? Would like to come for a visit and pop my tent up on my first leg crossing the states from Miami to California.
Next time you get stuck in that sand use Bill Dragoo’s method for sand and you would easily get out. Put the bike in second and straddle the bike. Get the RPMs up around 2k and rock the bike back and forth. On the forward rock drop the clutch (do NOT feather it) the bike will start moving. Once you are up on top adjust your speed and ride off.
Hi Sterling nice video thanks I have a question for you In this Channel you have 190 wonderful videos with a lot of advices about to edit good travel movie Where do you save all your clips One time loaded the video? Have you a big HD? Have a good time Thanks

The Canadians are very nice folks..Especially the pretty girl at the campsite who particularly liked your "unit"! Lol...Great job once again Sterling!

Phone as a shaving mirror! Cool.
Great episode to showcase my backyard, looking forward to the rest of the trip!
Great videos. Love seeing the bears. My kind of roads. 👍🏻
I love that you show the struggle and effort that goes into the amazing videos you produce. Keep it up.
The abrupt endings to all your Canadian videos are cracking me up, Sterling. I like your style my friend, keep it up!
Good to see you back in the game. Selfmotivation is a powerfull ability. Keep up the good work

Thanks William, I had a background in TV as well. And many years as an editor too. Cheers!
Thanks for your refreshing travel vlog. Looking forward to your journey up the coast to the Bella Coola Valley.
Thanks for another excellent episode!
Well done on getting your bike out of the sand like that. My back wouldn't have allowed that 😢
Great job with riding and flying that drone. What a beautiful location. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Of course we are friendly 😊… northern part of the island is great to tour on a bike.. enjoying your travels…
Very enjoyable video...glad your GS didn't get stuck again after all the prep work with cameras to get your departure shots. Very beautiful & tidy camp ground you found in Port Hardy.
Dude I love your travel videos. They're just the total package.
Can tell what you do for a living…best cinematography on RUclips!

Nice capture of the spectacular scenery and Island life off Canada’s West coast. I’m enjoying this series 🏕️👍😁
Love this trip! so jealous. each day really is its own adventure.
Great video- glad things we’re turning around for you out there. Really like the behind scenes on how you get the beautiful shots!
Loving this series. Great photography and insights. The drone shots are well woth it.

Doing some homework on the vacation. Smart thinking! Owning a Motel seems like not a bad gig.
Excellent inro. I enjoy following your adventure.

now that was a positive episode. wanting to take a ride also after watching it.
Sterling, you're on a whole different level of cinematic brilliance! 👍
Another excellent video Sterling - love the behind the scene views on your video setup and creative process.
I can't wait to see Bella Coola!
Go Derek!!! 🇨🇦
"Where the highway ends, the adventure begins. Well we kinda agree with that". Ha Ha ! "Do Tell"---- right Sterling ?
Again great job with your filming and story.

Bella Coola, been there, freedom road "the hill" will be interesting. Loved the last beach campsite.
Great video. Always have very interesting videos. Keep it up!
Great video thank you very well done I appreciate all the work you put in I'm sure it's a lot more to it.cheers to ya
Another great video Sterling! Safe travels! I'm going to make it out to your motel one day on the GSA. 👍👍
Thank you Steeling!
Interesting insight into the efforts needed to create such superb vlogs
Good vid. Always interesting the different takes on customer accommodations. I've seen a lot in 50 years on the road. Times sure have changed. Still basically a place to spenf a few hours and regroup for the ride.
That's quite the unit you have there! Yea!!! Lol.
Excellent video.
Coming thru Canada on bikes in June...this makes looking at little camp sites an option for sure. Great video ... again!

you did a great job. I did something similar to this in 1982 on the island on a Honda 1981 750 custom. cant to toe view the rest.

You continue to inspire. Thanks Sterling!
Thanks for the positive.
spent 4 yrs in port hardy probably rains more than Vancouver lol. but when its sunny its perfect not too hot
Haha, Not only did I stay at that campground last September. I stayed at that sight!

Thanks for shearing this "behind the scene", but I have heard these SanDisc SSD sometimes just fail, so be aware of something like that...
I picked up a motowinch since I don't pickup bikes/weight all that often. Check that tool out!
The end was funny as hell. Filming yourself shaving so you can see yourself. 😅😊 welcome back from to civilization.
I would love to see the remote controller ram mount that you use
Sterling is the man! All 150 pounds of him. Talk about film skills.. geez, getting some exciting examples
Sterling, I am r e a l l y enjoying this series. I have learned so much from you! I am wondering if you do ay editing on the trip or it is all done upon return? I am glad you pushed through that little funk you were experiencing...I knew you would! Stay safe! -Al-near-Seattle..
All done when I get home. I just preview footage along the way for enjoyment and to check things…
I've stayed at your motel in the past. Having a camping option in your 'backyard' for moto travelers would be a great option!!!
We do have a camping option, come camp anytime....cheers!
At the same time you were experiencing extreme heat in BC, I was in Italy experiencing extreme heat and drought.
You found your mojo. Your videos improved drastically since your lillte melt down. Where in Arizona is your Boutique Hotel/Campground? Would like to come for a visit and pop my tent up on my first leg crossing the states from Miami to California.
Sterling owns the Jonquil motel in Bisbee, AZ.
It was great to see how you film. I especially wondered how you worked the drone while riding. What kind of drone is it? Thanks for a great video.
Hi Sterling nice video thanks
I have a question for you
In this Channel you have 190 wonderful videos with a lot of advices about to edit good travel movie
Where do you save all your clips One time loaded the video?
Have you a big HD?
Have a good time
Thanks
a bucket of water on the sand helps firm it up, it works..
I found adjusting my traction control to full help in these cases. On the Africa Twin.
Hopefully you didn’t have to fight off any mosquitoes!!
going to the lake - I will use this expression when I tell someone I am going to buzz off....
Hi I watched this video before and revisited it today as were planning on riding to Bella Coola . We will be coming from Prince Rupert on BC Ferries to a place called Bells Bella where we will need to stay 1.5 days for another ferry to take us to Bella Coola . Did you also have to stay in Bella Bella and wait for another ferry to Bella Coola ? I know you were coming from Port Hardy but we will be travelling from Prince Rupert south to Bella Coola . Thank you
No, I did not have to stay anywhere. The entire ferry trip was about 10 hours long I think.?
This is so much work. I appreciate your content even more. Are you able to make this drone follow you?
It has the DJI Active Track function.
Great film! Why did you go back to the Air 2 vs your Mini 3 Pro drone?
Imagine a chain drive in all that sand !!
Technical question for you- does your camera bag do an adequate job of protecting your lenses on bodies off road? I’m so paranoid of bringing my full frame mirrorless off road!
So far so good... It's padded inside of course. I only damaged a camera once, but that was because I left it turned on while riding on some rough roads. I think the IBIS got damaged. I would recommend not leaving the camera on and disconnect lenses during transport.
@@SterlingNoren Thanks, Sterling! That's the info I was looking for!
Could you please let me know what RAM mount you use to mount your controller to your handlebar. I want to do some motorcycle footage with my Air2S, but don't have a way to mount it. Thanks, CJC
