I've been binging this series of videos this weekend, and enjoying them very much. I'm looking forward to watching the rest of your travels in BC, where I've lived my entire life.
If you're coming from the north east into Washington state catch highway 20 through the orchard towns and on to the Northern Cascade Loop. It's known to be the most scenic highway west around the Cascade Mountains. You'll come into the area from the North, and As you reach the coast you cross onto Fidalgo Island then Whidbey Island, following highway 20 south through Whidbey the whole time. That highway ends in Clinton at the ferry boat landing that takes you to the mainland at Mukilteo. They load the motorcycles first(in the front of the ferry boat). There was only two motorcycles, and the other guy was from Rochester, New York. I was riding my Yamaha FJR1300a. Atlanta, Georgia my starting point. it was mid August in 2016. 7835 miles and 19 states. Visited my son in the Seattle area. The northwest coastal region is an adventurers paradise. So much to see, if you're willing. It was hands down the best motorcycle trip I've ever taken. I went in mid August. The weather in the Seattle area was perfect. Sunny, 78 degrees. Hurricane Ridge to view Mount Olympus should be on your bucket list too. I was 56 years old and rode 7835 miles in 20 days. Hotels every third night, and camped where ever I could the rest of the time. I was limited by the machine I rode, but it was okay. In some instances I camped several yards from my cycle. We have an enormous and diverse country. I saw Glacier National Park outside of Kalispell, Montana, and speaking of Montana what a ride. There's a reason they call it "big sky country". Rode through the Badlands of South Dakota on the way. Stayed in Bozeman overnight, then rode for over four hours the next day in rain storms, before it cleared up, and I had a stupendous ride for the rest of the way to Kalispell. The second half of the day was like a sweet reward for the first half, but in truth with my face shield treated with Rain-X, the ride in the rain was enjoyable too. From Seattle I hopscotched through Oregon, going inland to Eugene to see my nephew, then to the Oregon coast which I couldn't miss. Then the PCH through Cali. There is nothing, in my opinion, like a long motorcycle journey, with the wind blowing over you, to lift your spirits, and make you feel like you're part of God's universe. No timeline if you can. Just go the way you feel is right.
Welcome to Van Isle, my backyard 😜👍🏻 It’ll be interesting to see where you go. I’m not sure the exact time of year you were up here but if it was anytime near summer, you were lucky to get that spot as most campgrounds on the island are booked solid months in advance. See ya on the next one! Cheers.
I must’ve watched hours and hours of motorcycle reviews on RUclips but this is the most objective, well presented review I’ve ever watched. King regards from Salou!
The next time you’re in Washington, be sure to do the “loop” Port Townsend, Forks, Lake Quinault (be sure to take gravel road around the lake), Grays Harbor, Shelton and up through Hood Canal. No traffic. Lots of gravel roads, twists turns and scenery. Plenty of camping!
Welcome to MY Island 😎 If I had known you were coming I would have cleaned up a little. Next time your up, shoot a message and I’ll get you out fishing. Looking forward to your Bamfield episode. My Home town.
I was in Victoria a few years ago before the pandemic hit. The drive out to Pt Renfrew was one of the highlights of that trip for sure. I've spent tons of time on Vancouver Island and it's always a good time.
I discovered a great use for the firebox if camping at the sea. You can gather driftwood around the firebox, whilst you burn whatever dry wood you have available, which dries out the driftwood and keeps your fire going for longer. Probably more use in wet climates, but it works well here in Scotland
Def a lot of full overcrowded campgrounds on the island, But also some really nice fishing camps that are super quite and beautiful, just really off the beaten path down logging roads. Next time bring a collapsable pole and slam some salmon for dinner
Its almost always colder and misty on that side of the ride you did into Renfrew. I'm sure its going to get better from where you are now. Unless you head to Tofino.......then you will possibly just get more of that. Will be interesting to see where you go from here!!
An old wild west proverb says -------- A cold beer after a long day in the saddle makes any meal welcome. (Unless the meal is a tough old rattlesnake) Sterling I have a souvenir smooth grey volcanic rock from a beach on the Olympic Peninsula. Some beautiful rain forest there too. A camper's experience.
Very excited to watch this, as I live in Victoria. It will be interesting to see how your trip to our island went. There's a very active adventure riding community here.
Right on! Up in my neck of the woods. I live in Courtenay on Vancouver Island. Lots of free camping in the North Island. Can’t wait to see where else you went!! 🤟
Awesome, great to see you in my home town of Victoria. The trip will get better as you head north from the city, great motorcycle roads in the area. But it does stay damp most of the year,we live in a rain forest after all.looking forward to the rest of the trip mate. Also Bill and Bernie from the BMW dealership are top guys, glad you stopped by!
Good to see you visited my country 🇨🇦. Just as an FYI for others no longer need the additional paperwork, app etc. just a valid passport. You must of been here n June.
Years ago I too was camping on the west coast of the island. Never having been before we figured it would be a quiet camp since it was somewhat remote. NOT SO MUCH. It turned out to be one of those nightmare camping grounds with hordes of campers in tiny little camping zones crammed together like sardines. Watch out for the campgrounds just south of Tofino.
Good to see you on the road again 👍.... looks like a lovely place to visit.. As for your meal yeah sometimes just comfort food is perfect 😊.....Thanks for sharing Sterling 🥃🏴
It’s funny, when I watch your videos I want to go ride my bike and I want to eat so whatever you’re doing must be working. I love your channel and I look forward to the new episodes every time.
I've never been to Victoria, but it's for sure on my list....especially on 2 wheels and camping! There's something to be said about comfort food when one is on the road, away from home, in a gloomy and grey environment. Cheers, Sterling!
Victoria looks like a nice city. The only time I saw it was from 30k feet in the air returning to Seattle from Asia looking out the airplane. Very easy to identify from the air because it's right on the end of the island.
Got to love the rental ambience. Nice place. Traveled it a couple times several years now back. The weather is always iffy. Either great or can't see anything. Yeap, plenty of bears especially up on the logging trails. Have a couple friends who hunt them.
Just found your channel, and this is the first video I've watched. I live in Alberta and I've been out to the west coast but not on my bike...yet. Looking forward to watching your videos from your Canada trip. On a side note, for those of us that actually live a real life, 9-5 with kids, a dog, normal life etc, it's funny to hear that your days were filled with annoyance due to some border paperwork and city traffic lol. Soft much? LOL. Just kidding, kind of. It's easy to lose perspective of our lives, especially in Canada/US, and the fact that we all have lives that others can only dream about. I try to think like this so that when I do have time for a quick bike trip I truly stay in the moment and stay grateful for the life I have.
I just dig your videos. Best camera and video shots I’ve ever seen. We just have to work on your ending. I’m always waiting for the commercial to be over and him to come back on, and get to see more.
Vancouver Island is great! But when are you coming to Québec and ride our 5600km Trans Québec Trail? One province, but a multitude of photographic opportunities. Look us up! Et bienvenue au Québec!
Afro Man being blasted in the background by noisy neighbors. Talking about annoyances and along comes a random dog. You couldn’t have planned a better scenario to truly depict your frustration going from the BDR and into Canada. Excellent story telling, Sterling. I hope to be able to do the same some day!
@sterling, I'd love to hear how you deal with bears and big wild life in regards to your camp food and other camp supplies. I don't think I've ever seen in your videos you use a bear ball or seen you put your food and supplies on a rope up in the tree. And have you had any close encounters for bears sniffing around at night?
did you know you can use head and shoulders dandruff shampoo on your helmet lens, as an anti fogger, it really works, just rubb it on and let it dry, then buff it off.
I hope that the others didn't spoil it too much, I really don't understand people who want the peace and tranquility of nature but then want to party all night, your new friend was lovely lol.
Did you ever think that maybe buying a 4x4 truck camper with a rack on the back for say a TW200 or other actual off-road motorcycle would be a lot easier than turning an already heavy motorcycle into a nightmare of boxes, and bags, that brings you up to the weight of a Harley Road King might be a better way to go?
I love hip-hop and I love dogs but holy moly. Time and place for everything, and patience was definitely needed lmao. Guess the dog isn't so bad after all but a random animal can always go sideways, good idea to bribe it with some sausage ;)
when one is used to "roam the land freely" on one's own, and then suddenly gets back to civilization, with all its "requirements and rules", one gets a pretty big shock.

I have lived in Canada all my 59 years, I have never heard ANYONE refer to Vancouver as "the island" -- maybe "Vancouver island." Must be a Pacific thing?

Port Angeles is cool.. was there on my bike last year. Good thing we dont need to prove we have the jab anymore... looking forward to heading north this summer.
The dog was a nice touch. 👍🏻
That's the friendliest dog I've ever seen! You must be a very nice man, Sterling.
Most dogs are ‘friendly’ when there’s food around🦮🤪🇬🇧
As usual, your videos are the most professional and most interesting of my subscriptions. More, please.
I've been binging this series of videos this weekend, and enjoying them very much. I'm looking forward to watching the rest of your travels in BC, where I've lived my entire life.
Cool, I hope I do it justice!
Dogs are an excellent judge of character.
Shhhhh. Don't tell anyone about our great backyard!! Riding is awesome on the Island
A three star meal with a motorcycle camp is better than a one star meal in a fancy restaurant
Motorcycle on a ferry. Bucket list item. Thanks for sharing, Sterling!

Thank you for creating great content and being honest about how moto-camping isn't always perfect.
Another great episode....loved the special guest!
You are my hero. I have been to so many campgrounds where idiots yelled and played loud music all night.
No one tells a story like you. Damn, just perfect.
I must’ve watched hours and hours of motorcycle reviews on RUclips but this is the most objective, well presented review I’ve ever watched. King regards from Salou!
Welcome back to Canada, a place that cures what ails ya! Keep sharing your Dash!!! - Davey.
You're vids continue to motivate me and remind me that it's not always perfect but it beats working 😊
Always a pleasure see your travels- videos.Good luck mate,.
Great vid thanks
That doggie spotted your sausages.
Welcome to the Pacific Northwet.
I can’t believe you were in my neck of the woods Stirling!! Thank you for this wonderful video. Enjoyed it as usual.
Great to see Bernie in your video!!!....great guy at Island BMW!
You've settled in perfectly with an Island delicacy: Lucky Lager
Haha! I spotted that, too. The allegiance to mediocre beer that isn’t even local is bizarre.
Thank you!!! Love the videos. Godspeed!
Sterling - sometimes Mac and cheese is all the comfort food you need. Beautiful island. Grateful for your channel as always!

idk..101 Shelton to Sequim/Port Angeles has quite a bit of RV traffic Memorial-Labor. Shoulder season is probably ideal timing.

The BMW Navigator Didn’t work even after replacing the unit four times. I had to switch to a Zummo XT

Its sad to think, that when you go camping, you must bring your noise and music and the kitchen sink to get the seclusion and peacefulness of camping.
Hey there, abrupt ending. Issue with the upload? Only 12 minutes long.
when one is used to "roam the land freely" on one's own, and then suddenly gets back to civilization, with all its "requirements and rules", one gets a pretty big shock.

Sterling is that a new Nav unit and cradle? Does it work with the jog wheel?
It’s a Garmin Zummo XT to replace the BMW NAV six which was not working.
Always trust a dogs judgement. You are OK in my book.
Do alpaca's spit like camels ?What's is the calculation that you use to figure wind chill when riding?
What lens do you primarily use when shooting with your camera?
On the Fuji camera, I use the 10 to 24 and 55 to 200 during the day and then I switched to the 16 mm F1.4 and 50 mm F2 in the evening.
What tires are you running currently?

Last summer July 2022
