    Also, my grandfather was offered a job in the NFL but turned it down because his other job offer paid more and he could do for a long time. So yes it was common for people not to go pro in other sports unless it was Baseball. During that time you did not turn down a chance to play in the MLB. But other sports it was very common, that’s why College was more highly regarded. A good amount of Baseball, Basketball among other sports (not including Baseball), would turn down pro offers for jobs in the real world because they paid more and were more stable.

    Did he ever play against George Mikan?

      Yes, five times in college. Mikan holds a 3-2 edge but Kurland holds two NCAA titles over Mikan (who has an NIT championship in '45)
