Even though The Godfather III (Coda) is the weakest out of the trilogy Garcia's character was a wonderful addition to the family. Even though he's had a fantastic career I consider him a somewhat underrated talent.
@@cdreidp Really? I am quite surprised to hear this. If you don't mind, can you expand, and explain why? I am huge fan of the trilogy, and think that 3 is way underrated. I am also a huge fan of Sophia Coppola, and think that the feedback she got, was more related to everyone's thought that she got the role because of her father.
@Armyan1988 yeah! I felt that 2 was more just a backstory for Vito, whereas Coda was a continuation of later years. I thought 2 was slow, wasn't as interesting, but I can see why people like it- people like Vito. Also though, I think Vinny was a great addition to the series, you could definitely see Sonny in him. Just overall a more entertaining movie
Andy Garcia and Ray Liotta were two actors who I am amazed didn’t go on to be bigger superstars. They had everything going on in their breakthrough films.
Andy Garcia, easily one of the greatest male lead actors in the last 35 years. More brilliant roles than I can even count. I am very partial toward “Things to do in Denver when you’re dead.”
Things To Do In Denver When You’re Dead. Massively overlooked and underrated movie that ranks up there as one of Garcia’s finest performances, opposite Walken, and with a great ensemble cast and razor sharp script. Unforgivable that GQ have overlooked that gem.
Aging like wine! Andy Garcia was my summer magazine love April 1991 - he came out in one of those American Magazines for his role as Vincent Corleone , I screamed "SH******T!!!" when I saw his full page black and white photo - his piercing eyes boring into my 15 year old boy crazy soul. I was grounded for a week for that cussin. Hahahah Sigh, here I am 32 years later watching this show. Love how Andy has embraced aging like that - he's still beautiful!
"Internal Affairs" with Richard Gere was a great performance and my favorite AndyGarcia role . I also loved his portrayal of "Benedict" in The Oceans 11 movies. That baby stroller scene in "The Untouchables" was magnificent.
Richard Gere and Andy Garcia reportedly did not get along during filming. Some of the scenes in which they were required to hit each other, particularly the confrontation in the elevator, were allegedly for real. Garcia subsequently refused to attend the wrap party.
I was working at Bellagio when they filmed Oceans 11 and waited on Garcia and his family of bout 10ppl. I waited on most of cast and he was def one of the nicer ones. I heard Julia Roberts was super high maintence lol..
I first saw Andy Garcia in the Untouchables, then Black Rain and Godfather III. I looked for any movie with him in it after. There were two outstanding films of his I really enjoyed that deserve recognition. City Island and Modigliani, both were terrific and a tour de force for Andy. He is a great actor.
He should the Kennedy center honors one of these days. Other than Edward James Olmos, he brought nuances and richness to the characters that are Latino and inspiring a generation of Latino actors.
Just stumbled upon this interview, ironically. just heard about James Dawn's death. He was great as Sonny's son , Andy Garcia is great, one of my favorite actors! God Bless Andy Garcia, and RIP to James Caan!
An Honorable mention: "Things to do in Denver When you are Dead." One of my fav Andy Garcia movie. Should've been there as well as "When a man loves a woman."
I wish they could have talked about a character he played in, 8 million ways to die. He played a cocaine gangster in Los Angeles. His name was Angel in that movie. He was like Tony Montana before Tony Montana. A great movie that also had Jeff Bridges. One of my favorite movies.
Christopher Vaile script is very good imo, it’s very tight. Those movies are so much better than they have any right to be. With a different team it could’ve been so average, it’s just the perfect ensemble behind and in front of the camera
Godfather 4 with Garcia as the Godfather HAS to come. As long as he is alive, they have to make it. Dont care about the plot or how, but they MUST do it.
It's lovely to see Andy break down his career, and he's thoughtful and fascinating here, so thanks for this. However, I have to wonder what kind of silly PR deal resulted in THESE movies being picked for inclusion (where he was mostly a supporting role), versus films he led like JENNIFER 8, WHEN A MAN LOVES A WOMAN, NIGHT FALLS ON MANHATTAN, MODIGLIANI, etc.? (I mean, MAMMA MIA 2 versus BLACK RAIN or 8 MILLION WAYS TO DIE etc? Sigh.
9:00 Maybe his charcter was aiming to be in the mounted police, most large forces in the 20s had them. Better pay etc. Makes sense. Untouchables is a masterpiece. People forget that DePalma was in the tight filmmaking group with Lucas, Spielberg, Marty and Coppola.
I had the very rare honor of escorting Andy around the Chines Theater as his EP detail while he did a Q&A. He got out of his car, i introduced myself and off we went into the back ally and down a long set of very creepy stairs into a super dark hall. Its probably the ugliest walk of old walls, covered in fire retardant, its just creepy. If you knew me personally or took a first glance you would see me as the skinny nerd who you could beat up (In short im not intimidating) In my suit i look like a secret service agent i guess and between that and the really creepy stairs Andy was a little wireded out, ask me straight up "Are you going to snuff me?" I laughed, he did to. I turned and smiled to him saying "I know this is scary but i promise your green room is just over hear and its much nicer than this hallway" Now ever time I see the Godfather, or Oceans, i get a big smile on my face and tell myself "I intimidated him....me the nerd" ^.^

I liked part 3 way more than part 2

Andy Garcia and Ray Liotta were two actors who I am amazed didn’t go on to be bigger superstars. They had everything going on in their breakthrough films.
I've always thought the same. Two of my favorite actors ever
They broke the mould with this one - he is such an elegant and dignified actor who always brings something unique to his roles.
Andy Garcia still looks amazing and still looks classy as usual. Great actor.
I love Andy Garcia in When A Man Loves A Woman. Meg Ryan and Andy Garcia are so electric !
One of the best and most underrated actors alive. He was the what made the Godfather 3 feel like part of the trilogy.
Playing Vincent in da third chapter was very intense.
Did you ever see "City Island"?

Just saw the great man himself in The Untouchables yesterday. What a great movie to be in. Andy Garcia is always fantastic to watch.
I will always picture Stone first when I hear Andy's name, and see him absolutely taking names on that staircase.

Such a likable actor. Favourite films? Black Rain, Internal Affairs & The Untouchables
Same here.
charisma just oozes off of him, still handsome

Black Rain.
