If you long press the plus button next to the text input field in iMessages, it'll directly open the photos or gallery. It's the same as choosing the gallery option from the menu.
I searched for thunder sounds as well as motorcycle and fire.
All worked well!
I was presented with still pictures of the search results as well as audio (in videos) of the results.

When they introduced searching for text in photos that made a HUGE difference when it came to productivity for me. I was wondering if they'd do something akin to that for videos and it looks like they did it with some sounds which is great! I hope they add the functionality to add more sounds, words and even text in the video. THAT would be a huge game-changer I think! =)

Thanks for the info! Kept thinking I was doing something wrong. I hate the way iOS 17 dealt with cropping my favorite picture of my late cat-it blurred from the top of his head down to passed his eyes.

On the LOCK SCREEN display, I made photos of my Rec. Centre BarCode and Costco BarCode, and used FOCUS to have those activated whenever I reach those locations. It works flawlessly! Er, but you can't insert your phone in the slot of the GAS PUMP. But it works inside the STORE.

Love your videos! I just wish there was a way to lock the last action in an iPhone menu. Kind of like the camera remembers the last settings that you used. Is there a way to do that?

Hi! This is a great informational video. Is it possible for you to create a tutorial on using the notifications app in ios17? Particularly sounds, vibration and the scheduled summary section? I have already seen a few videos, with one being totally wrong and confusing. Hey Tom - thanks for these educational videos. I enjoy learning from them and find your newsletter very engaging read. On the Siri back to back requests - is there any setting that needs to be turned on? For some reason, the back to back does not work. I wait for the first command to complete and then try to continue with the next related request but Siri does not activate until I say "Siri" again. A quick google search showed there are other users who are experiencing similar issues and Apple has no input on that in their forum.

Started using reminders as my groceries list, although found it limited with no aisle numbers or costs to items. Are Apple planning on further enhancements?

I found something new and useful! In iOS17
I can now dictate without Internet connection and also dictate indefinitely IN NORWEGIAN LANGUAGE 😃.
This worked before in English language, but dictation in Norwegian required Internet connection AND it stopped after one minute anyway.
So this is great news for me and I don't know how many other languages this has become a reality 👍😊

how do you edit your iphone with the frame afterwards?
One easier way to add the shortcut for Portrait or any came ra mode is to just open the Shortcuts App and in the All Shortcuts list navigate to the Camera section. Click on the > sign and it would expand to show all available options. Press and Hold on the Portrait icon and in the popup menu select 'Add to Home Screen'.
Does the crop feature replace or make a new photo?
Because it might not be optimal if it just replaces the old larger photo.

I would like to know if the below scenario is possible.
I have two iPhones one with an active sim another without a sim which is connected to a DAC + receiver ( wired for hi res music playback ). But both are in the same WiFi network and logged on to same Apple Music account.
Now I would like to “view” music playlist and “control” music from the iPhone ( with the sim ) from my couch of the iPhone ( wired ) which is actually playing the music. Is this possible ? Please help.
Also in iMessage if you hold the plus sign it’ll take you straight to your photos.

I have an I phone 14 pro which is just about a year old. My battery life is a 96%. Does this seem normal to you or a am I charging the phone incorrectly? Thanks
After downloading the new iOS 17 on my iPad (iPad Pro 11” 4th gen) I have a thick black frame Is there anyway I can remove that?
I’m honestly not sure if this is a new feature, but I’ve recently discovered that you can assign actions to double and triple tapping on the back of the phone. Have you tried that out?

One more thing is in the music app: you can now display information (artist, producer, …) about a song (three dots menu). Not yet linked like in movie apps, but maybe in ios 18 😁
In photo search, "talking" also worked well. "Barking" also returned results, but wasn't very accurate (results included a cat meowing and a goat eating). I also searched "running" and got a video which included a man moving quickly through the frame. That portion of the video was helpfully highlighted, just like the sound search.
i have yet to have any voice messages transcribed (ios 17.0.3) Are there some settings we need to change or is it limited to certain languages or regions? (im UK english btw)

Organiser of the Home Screen does not work on a IPad 9th generation running ISO 17.0.3
You can also just use Siri to open the portrait shortcut, just say Portrait and it will open. Then you dont need to have it on the homescreen.
Live photo to video. But still not able to grab a frame out from a video and save as a photo (without 3rd party apps)
The added gradient to black on top of a photo is a great addition.
I wish Apple would already include the feature of taking a scrolling screenshot, that it that goes beyond the visible page. Samsung for example have had a smart implementation for years. It’s occasionally useful for me, but good to have a swift solution when needed instead of having to open an app for that.

You can do that in Safari. Choose Full Page instead. That’s all.
