That means a lot to hear, thanks for sharing! And yes, you expand and just set it to get "today's events". You may need to put a "get current date" action above it and then choose that variable in the events action.

I have an issue with a location based shortcut. I have different workout options displayed when pressing the action button on my Apple Watch Ultra based on my location. However, when I’m in the park where I have a weak Wi-Fi signal the Apple Watch is not able to determine my location and run the shortcut . I have to toggle airplane mode off and on in order for it to work. Any suggestions?

Jumping in these comments to ask a quick question as regards tasks shortcut. I have a shortcut menu dedicated to my action button. One of these items is adding a task. I very often use it to remind me to do something when I arrive somewhere (mostly work or home). After choosing the location it asks for that radius and by default it’s at 1000pi which makes no sense for me (French, using metrics…). Is there any way to change the default to say 10meters for example ? Thanks a lot for all your very useful videos 🙏🏻

When I expand in the shortcuts app I have this action : "Add to with " Right below this when expanding I have : Priority Flag URL Images Parent reminder Tags Notes When I press the action button it opens then menu. One of the items is TASK and when I click I have the following : Text -> List -> Alert and then At a time OR When I arrive OR When I leave OR When I send a message. If I choose options two or three I can choose or enter an address and then it asks for the radius with the default 1000pi. I'm not sure this is all very clear but if you have any way (and time :D) for me to shoot a screenshot or screen recording I can do this. I don't use X but Bluesky, don't know if you're there. Anyway, thanks a lot for your answer no matter what :)

Thanks for the video. I tried to setup an automation, that puts my training time to the Health app after leaving the club. It starts and asks for the hours I spent correctly, but finally no entry is put to Health. Do I need a certain command to proceed or save? Thx

Need a shortcut to sync up my iPhone 13's Silent Mode status with my Apple watch SE2 Whenever I put my phone on silent, my apple watch also should go on silent mode and when I put phone on Ringing, Apple watch also should go on ringing mode.
This would be possible with the iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max, but no other models. The reason being, only they have a Shortcut action to change the silent mode. So you could make a toggle that changes both to silent or on, but it won’t work for older iPhones
Thanks to both of you. Sadly it’s not quite working correctly and give the wrong results which can be seen when checking the weather in Apple Weather for the day. I appreciate the effort though.
@@BlakeFealyit returns the temperature for the wrong hour. Which was where mine was failing too. If the shortcut is run later in the afternoon it appears correct but if it’s run in the early morning or later at night you will see the problem
@@BlakeFealythe problem seems to be how 9 is interpreted to be higher than 17 as numbers beginning with 1 are sorted lower. I haven’t worked out how to format and sort in a way that works. It returning the current hour

When did you want that to happen? When closing the camera, closing photos, or just to happen in the background periodically? Will try to work something up.
@@beardfm just periodically in the background. What I was thinking as the use case was let’s say I took a picture or screenshot so it’s the most recent in my camera roll. Simply being able to say “make the picture hidden” to Siri and it would hide the last photo in my camera roll. Going into each photo to do it is such a hassle.

I wish. Unfortunately it won’t allow you to send directly to a group. Instead I have shortcuts copy text to my clipboard and then open the group so I can paste it. Weird it won’t let you message directly.

I'm the opposite. I don't like videos like this. For me it's boring, tedious, no enthusiasm. I try to watch them through sheer effort. Sometimes I skip. I'm not a fan of shortcuts on iOS. Only use a few.

Glad you enjoy them! Unfortunately podcasts doesn't have that granular control like that. You can set it to play the latest episode of a specific podcast, but that's about it.
Hey Stephen I just stumbled onto your channel this week and it’s been so helpful getting my shortcuts and automations up and running. Keep up the great work!! Here’s how I set up my weekday/weekend automations. (I spent way too much time figuring this out last night but I feel like it’s a little cleaner.) * Current Date * Format Date - set time format to “none” and date format to “custom”… the format string should be “EEEEE” (5 E’s) this will give a single letter output for each day of the week (M,T, W, etc. ) * Next up add an “If” block and set it to “Formatted Date” “is not” “S” This will make your automation trigger on weekdays. If you want the automation to trigger only on the weekend change “is not” to “is”.
I am not sure that anyone will still be looking at this comment section. I am having an issue with the morning routine where it will not pull either the high or low temperature. Also it will not pull events from my calendar. I am sure that I am doing something wrong I just don't know what it is as I am trying to learn shortcuts now. Any help will be welcome.
Hey there, is it giving you a fail / error message or just not showing that info? You may need to give Shortcuts permission if you previously declined it for calendar and weather.

Today's Weather, The high will be Weather Conditions (High) and the low is Weather Conditions (Low)with a Weather Conditions (Precipitation Chance) chance of rain. Your events for today, Upcoming Events And it will take you Travel Time to drive to work. Now here's the news. That is what it says, but it never give a high or low temp it just omits the "high" and the "low" and the "Precipitation chance "Same thing for calendar events... it says here are your events and doesn't pull anything. The travel time to work however is working. Still not familiar with this stuff and totally confused.
Single men are going to be using the "Random text at a time" shortcut to text their GF's and women of interest and they are going to think "awww, he thinks of me first thing in the morning every day", only to find out he just set up an automation to text her the same time every morning 🙂.

If they are smart, they will create multiple automations but only set them for one day of the week, create 7 separate ones, put different messages in the list for each one, and then boom, problem solved as the pattern would be harder to recognize 🙂
Not every one is a power user. How bout some content that will help me use my thousand dollar phone in a mor productive way instead of shortcuts that in reality are not that easy or stable.
Hello Stephen, I don't know if you have talked about this, I tried searching but couldn't find anything, is there a way to create an automation that when I connect a Backbone game controller, or any other for that matter, that the iPhone opens up the App folder where I have all my games that can be used with the controller? The closest I've got is to have the home screen go to the page where that folder is. I would like to have that automation, together with some notifications turned off. @@beardfm I have alarm or something that's on my phone. I like the phone to tell me what time it is on the hour. The Good Morning Shortcut should go off at a specific time. However, I got it working. I found the Current Date field, added the calendars individually cause I have like 10 calendars (lol), then created an Automation that at 9am daily the phone will tell me Good Morning and whats happening. Thank you for showing me how to do this and can't wait to do more. If you know an easier way, please let me know?

Yes! Start with an automation trigger of "arrives at location", choose the school address, then "New blank automation" and "send message"

When I press the action button it opens then menu. One of the items is TASK and when I click I have the following :
Text -> List -> Alert and then At a time OR When I arrive OR When I leave OR When I send a message.
If I choose options two or three I can choose or enter an address and then it asks for the radius with the default 1000pi.
I'm not sure this is all very clear but if you have any way (and time :D) for me to shoot a screenshot or screen recording I can do this. I don't use X but Bluesky, don't know if you're there.

I tried to setup an automation, that puts my training time to the Health app after leaving the club. It starts and asks for the hours I spent correctly, but finally no entry is put to Health. Do I need a certain command to proceed or save? Thx
Usually you would use the Log Health sample, but what Sample are you choosing in the Shortcuts action?

For that, I would recommend making the Shortcut name your HomePod command, and then running a HomeKit scene as the first action in the Shortcut!

If you ask the HomePod directly by saying the title of the Shortcut, like "Hey Siri, Morning Routine" it should speak it all from the HomePod!
Need a shortcut to sync up my iPhone 13's Silent Mode status with my Apple watch SE2
Whenever I put my phone on silent, my apple watch also should go on silent mode and when I put phone on Ringing, Apple watch also should go on ringing mode.
This would be possible with the iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max, but no other models. The reason being, only they have a Shortcut action to change the silent mode. So you could make a toggle that changes both to silent or on, but it won’t work for older iPhones

Thanks to both of you. Sadly it’s not quite working correctly and give the wrong results which can be seen when checking the weather in Apple Weather for the day. I appreciate the effort though.

@@BlakeFealyit returns the temperature for the wrong hour. Which was where mine was failing too. If the shortcut is run later in the afternoon it appears correct but if it’s run in the early morning or later at night you will see the problem
@@BlakeFealythe problem seems to be how 9 is interpreted to be higher than 17 as numbers beginning with 1 are sorted lower. I haven’t worked out how to format and sort in a way that works.

Like for a release week you want messages to pop up on your phone and watch if its the release manager but not from the training manager for example?

When did you want that to happen? When closing the camera, closing photos, or just to happen in the background periodically? Will try to work something up.
@@beardfm just periodically in the background. What I was thinking as the use case was let’s say I took a picture or screenshot so it’s the most recent in my camera roll. Simply being able to say “make the picture hidden” to Siri and it would hide the last photo in my camera roll. Going into each photo to do it is such a hassle.

is there a way to send texts to a group/conversation? I have made a text conversation group, and i have to send a reminder text every month. I can't seem to find a way to select a group in the recipients tab.
I wish. Unfortunately it won’t allow you to send directly to a group. Instead I have shortcuts copy text to my clipboard and then open the group so I can paste it. Weird it won’t let you message directly.

(I know iPhone users can just use "request location" but not everyone has or remembers to use that feature) I have a shortcut that can send it to a contact, but I lead a walking group and not everyone is in my contacts list.
Are you sending it to the same group message every time or choosing recipients each time?

I'm the opposite. I don't like videos like this. For me it's boring, tedious, no enthusiasm. I try to watch them through sheer effort. Sometimes I skip. I'm not a fan of shortcuts on iOS. Only use a few.

Glad you enjoy them! Unfortunately podcasts doesn't have that granular control like that. You can set it to play the latest episode of a specific podcast, but that's about it.

Here’s how I set up my weekday/weekend automations. (I spent way too much time figuring this out last night but I feel like it’s a little cleaner.)
* Current Date
* Format Date - set time format to “none” and date format to “custom”… the format string should be “EEEEE” (5 E’s) this will give a single letter output for each day of the week (M,T, W, etc. )
* Next up add an “If” block and set it to “Formatted Date” “is not” “S”
This will make your automation trigger on weekdays. If you want the automation to trigger only on the weekend change “is not” to “is”.

I am not sure that anyone will still be looking at this comment section. I am having an issue with the morning routine where it will not pull either the high or low temperature. Also it will not pull events from my calendar. I am sure that I am doing something wrong I just don't know what it is as I am trying to learn shortcuts now. Any help will be welcome.
Hey there, is it giving you a fail / error message or just not showing that info? You may need to give Shortcuts permission if you previously declined it for calendar and weather.

That is what it says, but it never give a high or low temp it just omits the "high" and the "low" and the "Precipitation chance "Same thing for calendar events... it says here are your events and doesn't pull anything. The travel time to work however is working. Still not familiar with this stuff and totally confused.

Single men are going to be using the "Random text at a time" shortcut to text their GF's and women of interest and they are going to think "awww, he thinks of me first thing in the morning every day", only to find out he just set up an automation to text her the same time every morning 🙂.

If they are smart, they will create multiple automations but only set them for one day of the week, create 7 separate ones, put different messages in the list for each one, and then boom, problem solved as the pattern would be harder to recognize 🙂
Not every one is a power user. How bout some content that will help me use my thousand dollar phone in a mor productive way instead of shortcuts that in reality are not that easy or stable.

Hello Stephen, I don't know if you have talked about this, I tried searching but couldn't find anything, is there a way to create an automation that when I connect a Backbone game controller, or any other for that matter, that the iPhone opens up the App folder where I have all my games that can be used with the controller? The closest I've got is to have the home screen go to the page where that folder is.
I would like to have that automation, together with some notifications turned off.

I was unable to find a way to add a time to the Morning shortcut. Can you link the video and time that i can find that? Also is there a way to pick calendars cause i don't want all my calendars to be read just some?
What do you mean add a time? Did you want it to read you something based on a time or something else?
@@beardfm I have alarm or something that's on my phone. I like the phone to tell me what time it is on the hour. The Good Morning Shortcut should go off at a specific time. However, I got it working. I found the Current Date field, added the calendars individually cause I have like 10 calendars (lol), then created an Automation that at 9am daily the phone will tell me Good Morning and whats happening. Thank you for showing me how to do this and can't wait to do more. If you know an easier way, please let me know?
