Just take note that Kurt Cobain played various instruments on Houdini before he ate a shotgun shell. Without the Melvins, a lot of the crazy shit we love may not have come around. Bullhead. Listen to it again. And then once more.
I have been listening to the Melvins for an hour whilst waking up. They are so heavy. I just weighed myself and I gained two pounds this past hour just listening to them, damn it
I can spot 100 music styles in this one. One of the most multigenre masterpiece and at the same time so extremely simple song without losing its identity.
I've only JUST been getting into Melvins. I'm an 80s and 90s kid and I just don't understand how they were not more popular than they were. I'm also a drummer who grew up in a house full of all kinds of music. I'm just loving the stuff they have put out. Man I wish I was on this train earlier lol
Bro, same here. I've heard of their name over the years but they never got much attention. One of the most underrated and underplayed rock bands in my opinion is Chevelle. Just a phenomenal hard hitting rock group that sounds as good live as in the studio.
1990 1991 was pivotal for a lot of us that were born in the late 70's. If you were into the grunge scene, you were at your local record store talking to some guy in his 40's recommending real imported music. I was born in the freedom of '76. 🤣
You are so right. He does show up on a lot of best of lists but mostly nobody has idea who he is. His work on the Melvin s and Nirvana's early work is next level shit
I've got one of his sticks. It's incredibly girthy and its totally chewed from rim shots. One of the thickest drum sticks you can buy. @Scott Pierce, Dale plays on Raging Slabs "The Dealer" album too.
Brave Insanity to tell the truth, I've followed him all along the clip just for this clearness, precision and metronom timing that cought my attention!
Me too. I'm used to seeing him at full roar, but Its interesting to see him apply rudiments that most drummers don't bother to learn. Then use them to compliment a more subtile, restrained style.
Yep. If by saying i Really like coming back to this one means I'm jumping on the band wagon, so be it...like a lot of folks, i've heard many bands and been to a lot concerts ...and then have also missed so many years of music. Love this song...Thank You Melvin's for so many Bad Ass years! Glad I had the opportunity to see them live a couple few times (so long ago). 🤘😘
Because Big Business are an amazing rhythm section. The real answer is to go and see the Melvins play as soon and as often as you can. They're one of the best live bands in the world right now I'd say and with Dale and Cody on drums they're amazing. Seen em about 5 times, and they never play a bad show.
Props. Had an ex girlfriend from SF kinda knew them, helped the load in from their van to the Casbah in San Diego to avoid the cover. Saved like 5 bucks they slammed thru ultra heavy loudness for 2 hours
I wish the Melvins would make a side project album of The Screaming Trees - Uncle Anesthesia. I think they'd do it justice, even in old age. Lol. Respectfully
sheeeiiitt man. How did this get by me? I remember the melvins opened for primus, and i asked my friend "why is he singing with his back to us?" This is one of the most genuine bands out there. Longevity and real rock.
This looks like Melvins are cosplaying the Melvins.
Sashinka Sashev ha ha 😅

They really are
LOLOLOL
Definitely into D&D
I believe Melvins is thee most underrated musical rock metal pop bands in the entire history of mankind

Dale Crover is seriously one of the best drummers ever
That drummer is using both hemispheres of his brain
This song has such a cool vibe it feels like it's happening underwater.
this is the music that would play if doom had a water level

I was the 200th to agree,
basking in the glory of this groove…
@@jackburton3540 holy shit, doom needs a fucking water level! Fuckit put the slayer against Cthulu.

A-greed!
Agreed. He makes the drums practically sing the vocals, play the bass, the guitars: lead and rhythm!!
He’s always a great complement to each song.
I have been listening to the Melvins for an hour whilst waking up. They are so heavy. I just weighed myself and I gained two pounds this past hour just listening to them, damn it
Thats not how weight works my guy. Your weight is just fluctuating.
Maybe if you remove "the" and just properly call them "Melvins," the weight loss will happen.
@@kurtp8833 these replies are so heavy i sprained my ankle reading them, not really, cheers!

Tight as HELL. This song can't be easy, but they certainly make it look that way.
This is a simple song dude.
@@craigmoran893 its simple in a way but its hard af to play if you play the drums, it sounds easier than it is.
@John M Very few can copy the unorthodoxy of this band in general but I agree.
@John M it's because Dale is one of the goats!!
Love Dale's drumming on this. Not a beat out of place.
he is not even human
Its just called drumming 😃
And the drum level does not overpower the other players. That is what strikes me as brilliant here. So subtle, yet distinct. Just perfect!
Every week, I binge watch some of my favorite live musical acts and this week, it's the Melvins and James Brown 😂
my first time hearing The Melvins....loved it!

Drummers rule
Listen to John Bohnam destroying his set in Led Zeppelins 'Achilles Last Stand'.
Mind blown
Also.. faith no more and anything Mike Patton check out.. he collaborated with Kevin Rutmanis (bass player) w tomahawk (god hates a coward)
Terence Fletcher: "Are you rushing or are you dragging?"
Dale Crover: "Nope."
Dale is awesome
He is under rated as a drummer.
Nice reference
Dale probably would have mustered that guy

The Melvins are always a treat, you never know what to expect!
The bassist’s forward thrust was really enjoyable the whole time.
Kevin rutmanis. He played for cows
And tomahawk
Kevin WEIRD but great stage presence
Indeed. Some very quality thrust work

This stripped down Melvins sound has my head reeling. It's like Buzz forgot a couple of pedals at home.
Somehow the drummer steals the entire show, I feel like he invaded my soul, and I was smiling the whole time he did it.
