Thank you, Leslie, not only for sharing your grandmother's lovely butterfly blanket pattern with us, but also providing this video tutorial. I'm all set to knit a practice swatch to get comfortable with the butterfly stitch. Pattern download was quick and easy. 🦋🧶
@@LeslieFriend Thanks, Leslie, my Butterfly Blanket is going well. I had to go up to a Size 9 needle to get gauge, not surprising since I'm a tight knitter. This was a good weekend to start a new project, because I'm adjusting to different Rx eyeglasses so I'm staying home for the most part.
So excited to start this project for a new little person on the horizon - a neighbour in town brings me homemade soup every week as a gesture of friendship, and community (she's new to the country, I'm disabled). So it's going to be beautiful to be able to return the kindness with this blanket. Mutual support is what life's all about. Thanks for your part in this sweet circle. Greetings from England, Friend!
Great demo, Leslie! Although I do my knitting in continental stitch I still was able to follow you. Thank you for sharing this great classic pattern from your grandmother!💜🧶
Leslie, after watching your last podcast I bought yarn in anticipation of the Butterfly blanket. Thank you for always infusing such inspiration and joy.
I did the same thing. Headed straight over to JoAnn that Memorial Day weekend and got the Big Twist yarn in the color Taupe, on sale too. Just now downloaded the pattern. I'm going to knit a swatch to practice the butterfly stitch.
I'm so pleased to be able to return to my beloved Butterfly Blanket, after 6 months of not being able to knit following orthopedic surgery after a catastrophic fall on Easter Sunday. I think that was the hardest part of my recovery, not being able to knit. Thank goodness I had kept good notes on my Butterfly progress, so I know right where to resume the pattern. 🧶🦋 💞 🦋 🧶
Oh Vivian! So happy you are back to knitting! I’m honored it is on your butterfly blanket. May the stitches soothe your heart and soul and may the butterflies bring you much joy! 🦋💫🙏 hugs friend!
@@LeslieFriend Thank you, Leslie. I'm going to purchase one of those Moleskin notebooks and write a recuperation journal, intertwining my recovery with resuming my Butterfly Blanket. I will talk about your generosity in sharing your grandmother's sweet pattern with us, your kindness in choosing a yarn within reach of everyone's budget, and my parents' gift of courage that enabled me to get through surgery & recovery alone, a courage I never knew I had. When my orthopedic surgeon explained that post-operative pain would be rough, I asked him if menstrual cramps were involved. He laughed when he told me, "Not a chance." So I told him I'd be fine. Today is my birthday, November 12th. I'm 76 years old. And alive.
Thank you, Leslie! Your grandmother was a terrific knitter/ designer and she passed that down to your Mom and then of course down to you and your sister. I have been knitting for over 65 years and I am always happy to learn a new technique and stitch!💜🧶
Thank you for the excellent tutorial. Loved that the last one at 6:17 or so was done intentionally slowly and clearly; sometimes tutorials speed up at the end, but yours makes sure we “get” the technique. Excellent!🦋🧶
I've hand my yarn all ready and waiting to knit up this blanket for my first baby who is due in August. Thank you so much for sharing such a lovely pattern!! I can't wait to get started! ❤
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I was having a mess of a time with a similar butterfly patterned blanket I got with a We Are Knitters kit years ago. Purchasing and working with yours instead!
Thank you Leslie! I just recently found you and am so glad I did. I love this pattern. Can't wait to make one. Thank you for the video to accompany the written directions!
Thank you for the inspiration! I was so inspired about this stitch and your baby blanket that I went ahead and designed and made one because I was up against a timeline of my first grandchild’s arrival. Funny, I didn’t swatch and just started knitting away! The blanket turned into a longer wrap/shawl/blanket, which is perfect to wrap mom and new baby together when desired. Perfect! Again, thanks so much for the idea, introduction to the butterfly stitch, and your pattern! I will download soon!
I am really enjoying knitting this blanket, and what a joy it was to see my first completed row of butterflies emerge! After I'd completed the first Butterfly Loop row(Row 11 of the pattern), I took a few minutes to adjust the wings of the butterflies so that both wings would be of equal width with the loop stitch in the middle. I used a short DPN to gently adjust the strands of the wings. Then when I knitted the next row (Row 12), the purl stitches stabilized the adjustments I'd made to the wings on the previous row, so they're locked in and look very neat. I'll continue to make this adjustment on every Butterfly Loop row in the pattern.
Thankyou so much for a lovely blanket pattern,I'm in the middle of knitting for a friend's baby who was born last Sunday 8weeks premature weighing 2 pounds 9 onces this will be a perfect blanket to knit for when she comes home 💕
@@LeslieFriend just a quick comment. In the pattern the very end says to repeat rows 1-10 one more time. It make more sense to me to repeat rows 1-4 one more time, then the six rows of garter as that would match the beginning. Maybe??
Using a ChiaoGoo Size 9, 40-inch length IC needle. I changed from a 32-inch length to a 40-inch length needle after knitting 2 repeats because my work was getting crowded. November 2023: I resumed knitting the Butterfly Blanket recently, after having been away from knitting for several months following surgery. I have switched to a Size 10 needle for the Butterfly Blanket, which is working out better than Size 9 with the Big Twist Value yarn. The fabric is softer now.
OK I finally got it to work..no idea why it didn`t the first 10 times...anyway thanks for checking...I will enjoy your pattern I`m sure...always look forward to your Video`s..
Hi friend! I would like to increase the size of the blanket. Please let me know if there is a certain stitch count multiple. I’m wanting more of a throw for watching tv than a baby blanket. Thank you. I very much enjoy your episodes ❤
Thank you Leslie for the tutorial..but when I used the coupon code BESTFRIEND it said not a valid code..am I doing somethings wrong ..I love your Mom's pattern..and will gladly buy it code is no longer available..today is June 11th..Thx

Ha! Good to know! ☺️
