Leslie, I can't thank you enough for this tutorial for the nice edge and also how to change the balls of yarn. A huge help for this very visual person.
Thank you! Very helpful! I will be using the technique in my future projects. Also that is a great way to join a new ball of yarn! Thank you for sharing your expertise.
I made mine following Amy’s s1wyif and loved the neat edge. Also did German short rows and a big fan of spit splicing. Love when experienced knitters share, thank you, it teaches me so much. Love the colours you chose 🥰
Thank you for sharing your beautiful edging with us. It just finishes the edge beautifully. Will definitely use next time. Hope you and your family stay safe and well. Best wishes from a gloriously sunny 🌞 and warm Yorkshire 🙏🏻
Thank you so much. I am a beginner and started my first garter stitch afghan. This is amazing and will give my afghan a professional rather than homemade style.
Thanks so much for those great tips, Leslie! I have been an avid knitters for six years and have putting a knot in to secure the joins and weaving in the tales. The slip three stitches to make a great edge is new to me. My friend told me to slip the first if the stitch to create a cleaner edge. I use that tip depending on what I am knitting. Thanks for the heads up! I will be incorporating it in my knitting going forward!! Love, luv, luv! Happy knitting!!❤️❤️👍👍☺️☺️
Oh yay! I"m so glad I could help! The tip about joining a new ball is my absolute favorite to share as for some reason people don't actually do it! Happy knitting, friend! xx
I will forever join a new ball like that! Also, edging of 3 slipped stitches takes garment to a higher level of professional! This video is one to file away for future reference. Thank you for sharing and helping me improve my knitting skills.
OMG...I think it's a sign that I need to do this wrap because I had been eyeing this pattern for a while and now I just saw your video. I am a beginner knitter so this helps out a lot. Thank you for the wonderful tips!!!
Leslie, thanks for sharing! I am always curious to know how other knitters knit! Wow!!! I love that technique, edges look perfect! Your Shlanket looks lovely!!! I love a big cozy wrap! I may have to consider this project.
Two nice little tips. Thanks. I generally spit splice. You use the yarn up to the very end (no little navy ball leftover) and have no ends to weave in. That's two good reasons (or 3?). However, that only works with wool. I'll have to try your method when using silk, cotton or other non-wool yarns. Love your colors! Can't wait for Purl Soho to reopen so I can go in person to see all their pretties.
Thank you Leslie for the great tips 😍. I‘ve already used ithem and very very happy with the result 👍, Thank you so much ☺️. Lovely regards from Austria 😘
Hi Leslie, I am not an experienced knitter, but want to knit this wrap with the tradition wrn-t. I read that I would wrap the 4th stitch and then slip the last 3..but I must be missing something because if I wrap the 4th stitch I turn my work and don’t have access to the last 3 stitches anymore. I hope this makes sense! 😂
Late to the game but I will be starting my first half and half wrap. Leslie I love the edge that you put on your wrap. I wanted to know on which row you start doing the slip stitch. Would it be row two or three? If I had yarn and needles out I might be able to figure it out but I thought I ask first . 🧶 Thank you for your assistance.😊
Beautiful effect! 💙Thanks so much for sharing. I would love to see an English knitting demo of the wrap and turns and picking up stitches. For some reason I am still confused by this technique.
Hello, Leslie. Why aren’t you calling that a modified I cord? It is very similar. Your stitch is very neat. Your camera angles were very nice and you did a clear demonstration for us all. I will try to remember this for my edges. Thanks for tip.
I just recently came across your podcast & I am so happy I did!! Your knitting is beautiful!! I love this edge & will definitely give it a try as well as many of your suggestions. I like the look of the needles you are working with are they wood & who is the company? I am looking forward to watching your first & on.
Great tip! I love your aesthetic including your pattern and color choices. I'm curious - did you create any special edging on the cast-on and bind-off edges (like i-cord?) Would you recommend this or would it make the wrap look too boxy?
Hi Nathalie! I knot across until I had 3 stitches remaining and then did the German short row. Then at the end of that row (where you have turned your work after the wrap) you will slip the last 3 stitches with yarn in front. Please let me know if this is confusing!
@@LeslieFriend great ideas! I am late to the Half and half party… on row 2 to do the German short rows method-do you knit across the row until you have three stitches or two and then do the German short row? Love your beautiful edge!
@@caroll8404 Hi Carol! How fun! Yes... I started the GSR with 3 stitches at the end... after you turn knit all the way across and slip the last 3 stitches with yarn in front. Hope that helps! xx
@@LeslieFriend Thanks! So even though when you substitute the German short rows for the turn and wrap you still do row 2 as follows-..(wrong side) knit to the last three stitches, not 2. ( I don't know why, but I thought when you substitute the German short rows you knit one more stitch than the pattern calls for) and then turn the work, do the pull up of the stitch for the short row, , then put on the marker and knit to the end of the row(but for your edge you slip the last three stitches). Thanks for your help!
@@caroll8404 Hi! YES! That is correct. This wrap is so forgiving. I think i heard at one point too that you knit one more when doing GSR... I think that would be important for size but since size doesn't matter here, i just left 3 on the end before I did the GSR.
Me again.... thank you so much for the suggestion on the Cady Jax video help. I love your 3 slip stitches for the edge...I am confused on an area of pattern .... how to begin 2 nd color...? Do I begin with my 2 nd color and do following, K all and K all GSR and then K next row as well? So really I am knitting 2 rows then on row 3 I begin my GSR ,( how do I incorporate the 3 slips at my new color edge? In her video there isn’t a definite “slip” she does. So sorry to bother you with this. I have looked and looked on Ravelry and in other knitters notes and am sadly coming up short with advice. I guess as well the chance to knit all this stitches incorrectly to then have to rip back is mind-blowing. Ugh.... no hurry for answer as your time is precious .... just know I appreciate all your help ( in past your videos are helpful)... have a great day! Cindy
How did you do this Cindy as I’m struggling to incorporate the slip stitches whilst trying to wrap the last few stitches of first triangle then start the slip stitches when starting the short rows on the second triangle. I also am coming up short on advice despite lots of research. I’m ending up with the edge looking quite messy at this middle point
Thanks for reaching out Allison. I was there let tell you. I am about to start on a second half and half and I need to “refresh” my notes. This is so frustrating I can relate. I watched Stressknits video/ podcast as she had some good advice ( as well she had a IG tip she shared directly). For sure Leslie had reached out as well and helped. I read and re-read Purl Soho comments on their website where the pattern is written….. some helped to de- mystify. I believe in the end the one thing I did with all the above that was a lightbulb moment was the Cady-Jax video that the women does with a “small version”. I cast on a super small square and slowed the video down and knit along and this helped to cement the procedure. I could see the “infinity” aspect for my own eyes…. And the 3 slipped edges that I did as Leslie did. ( I full well know this will sideline your project with these “baby steps “ but it was this little self tutorial that made the difference for me. I hope this helps… I am no teacher and I can at times be too wordy. Happy Knitting.
@@cindyg.8425 hi Cindy thanks for reply. I have actually knit about 4 small swatches now but it’s the slip stitches, whether to work them or leave them that’s frustrating me. As you said earlier CadyJax doesn’t have a slip stitch edge on the small sample she works. No matter how I’ve done each swatch, the middle section, as I transfer from one triangle to the next, the edge looks messy or has a jog in it. I’ve been held up at this point for ages now as it’s too much work to now do it wrong. Good luck with your second wrap, it’s been nice and relaxing to knit until this point I am now and good to chat with you.

Thank you for the great video! In the case of adding a new ball for alternating skeins, do you use the same technique and carry the yarn in the gap before the slipped stitches?
This is a beautiful way to have a beautiful edge to your garter stitch garment. Thank you! If you were doing a piece with stockinette and not using any particular edging stitch, would you join the new yarn on the first stitch of a row? Thank you!
I'm definitely not a fast knitter I'm thinking on knitting this for my daughter for Christmas. How long did it take you to knit this shawl? My yarn came in today! I figured I would give my self twice as long to knit it 😆 Thanks Friend
Hello lovely! I have recently discovered your channel and am enjoying your content...thank you! I just received my Linen Quill yarn and worked up a swatch for the Half and Half Triangle Wrap using the Greman Twist cast on (and slipping the last three stitches) however I'm not loving the look of the cast on edge. Any suggestions for an alternate cast on method? Which cast on did you use?
Hi! SO sorry just seeing this! YAY! You are making a half and half! I used the long tail as that is my favorite and with all of those stitches that is about all I would do! ha! Happy knitting friend!
If I have to wrap and turn the 3rd from the last stitch as the pattern calls for then how do I slip the last 3 stitches for this edge? Do I just wrap and turn the 4th stitch and slip the last three? Thanks in advance! By the way, I love your podcast!!!
Hi Leslie, thank you for the genius idea! I'll be starting my first Half & Half Triangle Wrap and I want to put a 3 stitch i-cord edge on my wrap. I think that edge looks so nice. I'm finishing the Sophie Shawl now and it has the i-cord edging. To do that edge on the triangle wrap, do I make the wrap and turns after the 3 edge stitches? Did you add 3 stitches per edge? My shawl is going to be in Pale Oats & Rhubarb Pink, it's a birthday gift for my mom. Hopefully it will be done by April 2nd.
ooooh! your shawl sounds lovely! i am sure you have figured it out by now.. sorry so late to the comment. April 2 is right around the corner so i am sure your fingers are moving fast! 😍
Ok, I see what you are doing, but want to make sure I have this correct. Did you add 6 stitches to total count, so as not to throw off the German short rows count? That way every row begins with k3 and ends with s3p? Just double checking? Thank you!
Hi! No... I just followed the pattern per cast on stitches. I cast on 260 stitches. I then started my first short row on row 1 by knitting to the last 4 stitches (instead of the 3 according to the pattern), place the marker, K1, turn work, slip stitch back to right hand needle, slip marker to right hand needle, knit across rows. (German Short row technique.) Then at the end of that row, Slip 3 stitches with yarn in front. I hope you can understand this! Please let me know if you need more help!
I wonder if I’d have been better if I’d added stitches to the cast on number to accommodate this edge. I’m having real problems transitioning smoothly to the second triangle both in terms of joining the second colour ( due to slipping stitches) and being unable to slip the stitches at the start of the next triangle as the wrap and turns or gsr’s begin immediately. Therefore you are actually working stitches until you have enough at the end to start slipping them. This is causing me a jog in my work that I can’t seem to sort out. I feel like I’m missing a really easy fix but I’m at a total loss with it.
Leslie was it your mother who taught you to knit? The half and half triangles wrap looks interesting. I know, a sea of garter stitch ..I am seeking something relaxing😊
Hi Leslie. I recently started the “smaller” size since I’m only 5’ tall & I don’t want to look overwhelmed with the larger size. I started using my ChiaoGoo metal needles and had to start over with wooden ones because the stitches would occasionally slip off! It was a horror show. Now I’ve switched to Knitters Pride dreams 47”. So far, so good. I’m curious. Did you use metal or wood needles and how many inches? I just love your videos. I look forward to them! Thanks ….. Cindy
Hi Cindy! I do like metal needles for most projects but I think I used bamboo for that. I like a smaller cord though... I usually have the stitches crammed together! ha~
I've been doing s1wyif too and love the edge it gives. I must try the s3wyif you demonstrate so beautifully. But until I do my head can't work out what happens to the float across 3 sts at the back after you turn. Do you catch that in as you knit back?
Hi Rosie! Sorry for the delay... I usually use a 24" cable and cram all of my stitches onto it! ☺️🤪 I just don't like a big cable floating around. I save my longer cables for magic loop or for holding stitches. xx
Thanks so much for this! I'm starting my first half and half and have watched your tips. I have knit the first row and slipped the last three stitches. Turned to start the second row and knit to the last five stitches. Not sure if this is correct. Regular instructions say to knit to last 2 stitches, turn work, slip YO, place marker, knit to end, turn. I got these instructions from the Jackie's tutorial. So, with the five remaining stitches, do I turn work, slip YO, place stitch marker, knit to last three stitches, turn. Sorry if this is confusing. I really want to get off to a good start.
Hi! So… At the end that you were doing the short rows… That would be the five stitches… You do the yarn over or the German short row. When you knit back unit all the way to the end slipping the last three stitches with the yarn in the front. All of your stitches will be on the right hand needle now your turn and start knitting back. Please let me know if you understand this I want you to get off to a good start also!🤍

If I have to wrap and turn the 3rd from the last stitch as the pattern calls for then how do I slip the last 3 stitches for this edge? Do I just wrap and turn the 4th stitch and slip the last three? Thanks in advance! By the way, I love your podcast!!!
Hi Debbie! Yes! 💛
Great tips. Thank you
My pleasure Diane! xx
Great tip!
Thank you so much 💕 I can't find the name you have mentioned. To do the another side . Thanks you so much love being your friend 💞💞
He esme! Do you mean for the German short row?
Hi Leslie yes thangs i found the GERMAN SHOT ROW METHODS. Almost done white my 1st half. The edge you showed us wow i love it. Xxx
I usually have the stitches crammed together! ha~
Thank you for this wonderful idea. I will try this method when I make a garter stitch scarf next time. What are the colors you used, please?
Thanks! Helpful!
I've been doing s1wyif too and love the edge it gives. I must try the s3wyif you demonstrate so beautifully. But until I do my head can't work out what happens to the float across 3 sts at the back after you turn. Do you catch that in as you knit back?
Hi Julie! No catching the float. It just comes around those 3 stitches and you don't even see it!
@@LeslieFriend Ok. I'll give it a try then.
Thank you so much for the information!!!!!🧶
My pleasure! ☺️😍
Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for watching! ☺️😍 xx
Thanks so much for sharing 💙
You are so very welcome! Hope they help! xx
Thank you! I need to make one!
YES YOU DO! ☺️😍 xx
I'm just starting mine and I'm going to do this edging. Thank you for showing it. What colors are you using?
Yay! Glad you watched before you got too far along! My colors are Dark Denim and Heirloom White! 🧡
Hi, I was wondering what lenght cable you used for the half triangle wrap? Thank you
Hi Rosie! Sorry for the delay... I usually use a 24" cable and cram all of my stitches onto it! ☺️🤪 I just don't like a big cable floating around. I save my longer cables for magic loop or for holding stitches. xx
@@LeslieFriend ok thank you very much!
Very helpful! 🧡
Yay! 🧡
Looks beautiful. What size needles did you use?
US 4! 💜
Love this tutorial and love your colors. What needles are you using?
Hi Sharon! Thank you! Im pretty sure they are my addi turbos... love them! 💜
Please let me know if you understand this I want you to get off to a good start also!🤍
@@LeslieFriend Thank you. Hope to make some progress this weekend!
Brilliant !!!
Glad you enjoyed! xx
isn't this an i-cord edge?
Not exactly! But it does look similar! 💓
I would say yes. That's how I do an i-cord edge.
this is just an super idea
Glad you think so! xx
Otherwise known as an icord edge. 😊
Great info
