Haha. The Dwarfs being small is a tactical advantage.
I love recruiting iron breakers from my dwarf Allies for my front line since my gunmen can shoot over their heads haha.
Grudge
The casualties lost on light war sleds talks about the gunners in the sled. The number equals the entity count of the gunners + driver but I never noticed loss of fire power. (Ie none of the gunner models actually die even thought the game thinks they did based on dmg taken)
still, he didn't lose a single chariot right?
@@alext1352 Yeah, it afaik should only lose you entities once you lose at least one actual model, which he didn´t.
No, I think the casualties counter is just bugged. I noticed the same problem in my Nurgle campaing. Initially I thought it took in consideration the summoned unites but the number of casualties still didn't match the number of the lost summoned unites. I don't know what's causing it but it's definetely a bug
I had assumed it was the Armoured Kossars in the Dwarf army that were miscounted as Kislev casualties
No, it's bugged. I had a Terracota Sentinel doomstack with Miao Ying and a couple wizards, obviously didn't lose anything, but showed I had 12 casualties.
The casualties (as some one said above) count on the sled driver/gunners, and they exist even though you haven't lost a single sled is because the game thinks you lost "unit health bar" from the battle.
If anyone observe the pre-battle screen closely the guy's sleds are in almost full health (around 3.5 sleds worth for every one unit, I suppose he took a few turns of bowelstep), but for obvious reason only 3 can show up on the battlefield. What happen is after battle the game hard sets every unit to their exact health ONLY according to the entities left on the battle, which is 3 for each. 3.5-3=0.5, and the game thinks that you lost those 0.5x16 sleds through the battle, thus the casualties.
This actually happens on every factions' chariot type units (or low entity number units), but its especially noticeable from kislev campaign because fucking Daniel's bowelstep (and also more noticeable if you play on lower unit scale).
Makes sense. I was wondering where the game got 274 units from a 52 entity army.
The reason the war sleds were firing at random targets while fire at will was disabled is because war sleds will shoot at "targets of opportunity" when given an attack order. In your case because they were not yet in range of their primary target, they took pot shots at whatever units they could while on the way to attack your designated target. Its real purpose is that its what allows them to shoot when performing a melee charge, which usually is a good idea... most of the time you want to soften up whatever you're charging into. While it makes sense for melee charges/attacks, it makes less sense when trying to make a ranged attack against a designated target... its at best a poorly implemented feature, at worst a bug. Fire at will should also enable/disable this behavior rather than assuming that it should fire opportunistically while making an attack.
yep, also the reason they gave them an insane number of shots. They learned from their idiot mistakes they made with the pirates they released for game 2. To bad they never fixed it in game 2 and waited once again for game 3 to repair something. And if you don´t know then search game 2 and look for limited ammo units that shoot a lot more then that number. There are a few units with that game 2 bug...

Legend: "Were they on the defense? No, that can't be."
Banner: " Our ally, Krak-a-drak, has attacked our war coordination target, the army belonging to Skarbrand the Exiled"
In my kislev campaign I sent a warsled doom stack to deal with skragg and it worked real good. He kept sending armies and I kept dancing around the map shooting the shit outta them haha.
The casualties are the wagon crew. Just like artillery crew. They have always been counted.
So twist ending is that essentially this save was more of a potential "saving disaster campaign" rather than a "disaster battle"?
Also o7 brave dawi garrison troops.
Yeah, at the start I was thinking 'I have literally won battles with less war sleds and no reinforcements' - I had no idea why this was a disaster battle that couldn't be won by the player.
Edit: Just got to the part at @9:22 where Legend mocks my comment lmao; but I don't know, I feel as if it was obvious the infantry should be run down and the monsters be kited/shot.
@@jamesferguson1333 this was mine, I'm just apparently awful at war sled micro. Or too tired after retrying it a few times! Just thankful to Legend so I could continue.
@@jamesferguson1333 I mean legend mocks it, but I don't even see how you lose even if you waste some ammo shooting the infantry, he ended the battle with probably something like 20-30% ammo left over, not a single casualty 4 healthy lord/heroes. Maybe it's a loss if you don't use any of the war sleds ammunition and just send them into melee combat
@@AArmstrongDotOrg Haha it's all good! I would have personally put my war sleds into 3-4 groups instead of a huge line like Legend. Good luck with that campaign though, hunt that bird bastard down!
"He's been caught in force march... you know, great job". xD
Btw you can use your tempest ice maiden to help you out with faster enemies. Her spells give the 25% slow mapwide and for some reason single entities like Skarbrand sometimes stop and dodge her hailstorm spell.
15:53 Khorne must've been high when he named that Bloodletter
More likely he was very pissed.
My silly battle, I am just apparently am REALLY bad at sled micro and used a lot of ammo on random things and got caught by them - playing on from this turn I got plague AGAIN so frustrating not being able to recover. I needed the advice! War Sleds are apparently just not my thing.
I'm behind because Slaanesh tempted me with the growth follower...slowly playing waiting for the patch to hopefully stop people once they do get 4. Will be tough! :D
It's not unlikely that the patch won't help you. Same like you can't change unit sizes later. Or did they already state something to the opposite?
As legend said it depends on what you fight. Sleds are basically "I WIN" button against Khrone and Nurgle, but not very good against Tzeentch (everything is not very good against AI Tzeentch anyway) and especially Slannesh (Daniel slannesh units inc.), because a lot of Slannesh cavs can easily catch up and murder your sleds. Not saying its not possible to sled stack against them, but it is much easier to send your Boris bear stack or Katherine ice blade stack to murder them.
@@tyk6698 Yeah using that war sled army defensively for now, lots of Khorne keep coming (and the rest) which they're okay at dealing with when I'm not crap at using them. War sleds are not nearly as good at siege battles.
The patch does grant me a reprieve from losing the campaign at least! Whew! The chaos factions are relentless at this point though (as seen by the armies attacking Kraka Drak's home town). I wish I didn't spend so much time in Ogre Town now. Lessons learnt and micro with sleds will hopefully improve.
Hey Legend. Have you thought of using warsleds in more of a square formation? I find using so many units in a line not very efficient because those on one or the other flank are usually out of range to shoot their targets.
I personally think that different factions should have somewhat different combat ai as their combat style is different. Like any Khornate faction should always rush to melee and have the cannon fire while they can but then maybe move in melee once the main line starts. Weird to see any Khorne army site there and shoot rather than run in for the kill.
I assume they fire because they are set to fire in melee. Units like those, maneaters etc will probably always fire in close range, even If fire at will is turned off
Yes, they can't fire at will but when told to attack something they will also fire at it when possible.
Hi Legend! Looking forward to seeing you livestream soon :D
Ngl i actually thought this was a rate my war sleds doomstack video from the thumbnail
When 5 war sleds that take 1 turn to recruit > full stack of nurgle that takes 20 turns to make and recruit
still very happy that Kislev makes the idea of a War Wagon work :D
when playing with the war sled doomstack i usually group them in 4 groups and i create different fronts which splits the enemy force so even if they go after one of your groups then you can shout them in their back
It seems like fire-at-will is reenabled on units when they have an attack order, regardless of whether the UI button is clicked or not. Someone in playtesting, who doesn't normally play the game, probably noticed that units ignored enemy units that were within firing range while they were closing with a specific target and thought that was a bug.
The moment Skarbrand breathes fire on that ice the stack is ruined
Ranged hit and run tactics and anti-infantry ramming into enemy formations and positions is effective against those who have insufficient speed units that are unable to catch-up these ranged chariots due to range advantage against dangerous enemies and ramming into weaker expendable/main/important infantry.
This is the easiest disaster I’ve seen him do in a long time. Makes me think the op didn’t even attempt it. Well played though
I did try it about 3 times but was both tired and frankly awful at sled micro in this particular instance, and stupidly used the heroes who kept getting killed by rampage, oops...lesson learned there, don't even bother with them! Just sled it up and kite properly. The fact is I did win it once but my casualties were just awful, and the ongoing plague would have got me.
That thumbnail is awesome.
"He was caught on March, ye, gud job" xD
I have had the same issue and it is very frustrating when the units don't seem to obey commands. Love ya legend and thanks for the content but not playing until basic things like "fire at will" work
The reason Skarbrand's army was defensive was because the garrison of the settlement they were besieging sallied out against them since they had the Ice Court reinforcements nearby. At the end the notification says "Ally attacks army"
I wonder if you would like to review replays along with disaster battles
Thumbnail is so cool
Legend would staying in the realm of Khorne and defeating anyone who wanders into there with your faction leader be a viable solution? It gets rid of what’s probably your best army but at least you won’t lose provided you just keep beating them
Yeah but you can't send another army to go cap souls at the same time, if two enemies have 3 souls and their 4th is two different souls you're fucked
Legend did something like that in his kislev campaign. He only entered the realm lf slanesh and prevented everyone from getting a slanesh soul while taking temptation rewards. I believe that's the best way to ignore souls race.
I'm working on a WH3 hero doomstack to send to legend that should be very interesting :)
I just modded out those rifts. Its weird to see them.
A dwarven ally had a unit, acquired through the Outpost means. Maybe their losses from that unit were shown as yours.
Looks like the average Kislev battle
What kind of Reverse Surtha Ek is this???
I just had that happen to me. I took zero casualties in a battle but the game said I did.
I now understand those sleds. They shoot 360 and while moving as well? And they are faster than the heavy ones? Good in melee as well? Yes, please! You get traits for those every 5 minutes or so. Kislev is such a great faction. That's 3 viable mono-unit late-game army compositions. At least.
I don’t know if anyone was like me. But in my first campaign, with 220 turns and almost half of the map under my control, didn’t went into the rift at all, and that campaign was defeated. Then I know it’s a victory condition. 😂
Kislev appreciates 😌 ✨️ seeing warsleds killing deamons
The wasleds always have 30 casualties for no reason. I had the bug multiple times
I thought that missile units have a "melee" button that you can toggle which forces them to go into melee instead of using their ammo.
press F, ranged will switch to melee order, but still to not use ammo you have to disable fire at will
From what I've noticed it seems that some units like war sleds seems to even shoot when in melee, I think it's part of their melee attack in itself, the melee animation is bear attacking while sometimes a Strelsi would shoot over the sled, but with a way lower fire rate. So that's why they never really stops firing, at least that's my theory.
That works with most ranged units, but if the unit has "fire whilst moving," they will keep shooting even when charging into melee and otherwise not currently engaged in melee, unless you turn off "fire at will" on them.
@@user-nh4xe5mf6i Yeah, that might be it.
The AI is completly crazed, dont know what to do lol :D
I find it bizarre that Khorne isn’t charging forthe to spill blood and are relatively just standing still at least in the initial part.
The ally AI being so moronic as can be, sending in full ammo ranged units to fight in melee.
War sleds destroy everything...
playing as chaos undivided, the sleds have been a pain in my ass for a while... good thing that Kislev is almost dead
Dwarfs MVP
I gotta love option " Pardon Captives" against Chaos, and also that it replenishes your units, makes zero sense, meanwhile Daemon Prince can't even replenish post battle. Who the fuck tested this game?
pardon captives gives money. replenishment is from sacrifices to salyak. agree that daemon prince needs better post battle options, like replenishment if you sacrifice to nurgle, or power reserve if you sacrifice to tzeentch etc. because right now once you cap your dedication it becomes worthless
why AI stand at their place? my AI doesn't do this (always moving pretty well)
Everytime you fight with war sleight you always lose units and complain haha. It is possibly that it counting the unit on the sleight not the sleight themselves
This game has made me hat everything about kislev if they are your enemy
I hate how their hero’s and lords look
But their ai omfg no matter the difficulty they spam like hundreds of armies non stop
160+ammo. Lotw i dont wanna waste it xd
But Skarrbrand slayed Khorne
Incredible that more people are playing WH2 than WH3 at times now.
Yea, War Sleds destroy Khorne cause some stupid AI is in charge.
first :)
If the solution to a disaster battle is to just have minimal common sense, as in not wasting all of your ammo on units that can't touch you, then the video probably won't be very interesting...
The state of the computer opponent is embarrassingly abysmal. Pleased to have avoided giving CA any money for such a disgrace.
Kislev voice acting is so bad and stupid, i hate it.
Pretty sure light war sleds have the same setting as the soul grinders of Khorne where if you take them off fire at will, they will only shoot when they are charging at enemies as opposed to being on fire at will when they just shoot at the closest thing in range.
Aaah yes. War Wagon DOOMstack 2.0 🤔
On legendary settings anything can destroy anything
