This video was super helpful to watch before attempting the timing. I had mechanical experience but never messed with timing before. This video gives a great outlive for the process on my Audi.
Keep going with the videos. I’m loving the content!
Excellent content. I didn’t know you had to replace timing chains at all
Alot of cars go their whole life, not these Audis. Mine doesn't fall in the recall year but it's still 5° and 7 clicks out. 2013 with only 65000 miles. :/
this is my problem and next repair for me! thanks for content!
Awesome video, you are definitely a master of the TFSI & even more of a pain when doing this on an A3. Have you ever had to replace a damaged tone wheel on this motor? Is there a procedure to replace it without removing the crank shaft? My high pressure fuel pump cam follower went to pieces on me & I’m fairly sure a chunk of metal damaged the tone wheel when it got stuck to the magnet in the hall sensor. Now the motor won’t rev above 4700rpm without freaking out. Acts like it’s hitting the rev limiter at 4700 rpm. Already replaced the crank sensor & no dice. Would LOVE your feedback & or a video with your thoughts/ tone wheel replacement diy. Thank you for the awesome videos! You’re the man!
Just found the channel great vids and info
Nice work.
I brought mine without an engine tray. Any chance you can do a video about fitting one and the screws we need?
I have a question I have a Audi A1 with the 1.4 tfsi engine it shocks when I give full throttle untherneath the 4000 rpm and it gives a couple of codes 3 misfires and one fuel pressure regulator 2 P2293 could it be the hp fuel pump that’s broken or do you have any suggestions?
Hi I am in the uk how would I know what seat Leon 1.4 tsi engine has a cam belt and not a chain eg MK2 or MK2 facelift or mk3. I am looking to buy a seat Leon 1.4 tsi but want to avoid the chain and dodgey tensioner ? Thanks
How do you get the engine support mount out of the engine bay. I cant get mine back in
How do I know if my chain needs changing? It sounds ok quiet when I start it. Also is there any other way I can check if it needs doing. I have Audi 2.0 tfsi 2010 Quattro with 132000 mileage someone as in the video. It's been owned by the police as an stand by car. But I have no record service history..
Do you have a shop in Melbourne?
Thank you for sharing your process and insight. I recently purchased a 2.0t timing chain kit, marketed under Boreshung and sold by Cascade German in the US. Do you have any experience with Boreshung parts? Are they OE, OEM, aftermarket, cheap garbage etc..
Never heard of them. I'd say it's a cheap knock off brand. Genuine is IWIS. Febi timing kits tend to come with IWIS chains if it was OE brand.
and if it is chain driven when does it need replacing ?
how much does this cost supplied and fitted??
Intake valve position, best way to get the values? Digital test with Vcom? Much appreciated.
Vcds yes. MVB 93.3 or search Phase position.
I am about to do the same job on an Audi A3 I just bought with the same set up but I’m having problems finding the right parts, this is my first Audi and there are many different variants of this model lol. Any recommendations on sites that Carry the parts I need?
FCP Euro. I don't use websites. I use local suppliers. Easy for warranty.
Any way I can contact you I have a tsi engine causing me trouble and everyone is stumped!
Ia there a certain mileage you would suggest for this job to be done ?
I was at the Audi dealership yesterday talking about my replacement it should be done when your cars mileage gets a little higher like mine just hit 90,010 miles and the replacement at the dealership was priced at $3,580.
The sound at the end of you're video of these engine is these the injectors that are so noisy? I have a audi a3 2.0l tfsi quattro and chain got replace but engine is noisy en when I pull up I hear some sort of chain sound but it could also be the turbo is these correct ?
The sound are the direct injectors. Its a normal sound, they are like sewing machines
That tensioner was waaaay out. Just out of interest, what was the phase angle value? Mine is 0.52° on an 75k 2010 1.8 Tfsi
It was really extended - a sign of a very worn chain. I can't remember off the top of my head tbh, but we make recommendations at around -4.00° that they shoukd really start thinking about a new chain set, and -5.00° is where we advise it as being a point of urgency. We've had ones come in that were at -7.00° and above, where they've been serviced elsewhere and never had the value checked (only an assumption). This one looks to me like it would be more than 5, and I recall it to be a bit rattly.
My next engine will not be with a timing chain. Just had a full set changed at VW
so just to be clear my 2009 Audi S3 8P quattro sportsback is definitely chain driven?
Belt on the front from crank to exhaust cam, chain on the back of the head between exhaust and inlet cam.
EA113 engine
What does that cost? Like $7K?
can you do my chain please
Wouldn't be easier to pull motor?
No its actually easy enough in the car. Not worth the extra labour. You would take longer to remove and reinstall the engine than it takes to do the whole job in the car. I remove the engine when there is another job or jobs that require doing at the same time. Like I did a video on a tiguan that i need to edit, timing chain, rear main seal, water pump, oil filter housing bracket seals. Removed the engine for that as it made sense.
But then in an earlier video of a 1.4tsi, i removed the engine to do the chain and a dsg clutch as it made the job heaps easier, and easier to film. Throughout the video i stated and put titles that said that this is not necessary to do just a timing chain. The amount of comments i got from people whinging that i didn't need to take the engine out after I'd explained in the video amazed me.
@@FourRingsAuto makes sense.thank you for sharing
Anybody know of a car with a timing chain that will actually last the life of the vehicle? no? me either... maybe them ol gm 3800's
Same people selling "Lifetime" timing chains are the same ones selling the 75,000mile "High mileage" oil
