In today's video we unveil my new cheap car project. My new Audi A3 2.0 TFSI. But there's a mechanical issue we need to sort!
I would definitely keep it standard and I do like these more affordable cars on your channel especially with mechanical problems.
Agree completely
Agree more budget friendly round about cars
keep standard & 100% Turbo :) - plus ........ Im a tad concerned about the poor little LadyBug that was on the back wheel :(
It's a harlequin ladybird... invasive species that practically wiped out all the regular ladybirds I knew and loved as a kid. They're absolutely everywhere in the UK.
Interesting project. I would say, put it back to standard, tidy up interior and sell. Look forward to whatever you decide to do.
That’s boring , bigger turbo would be cool to see done and test drive
Even though I’d love to see you do a conversation on it with more power I think keeping it standard would be the right thing to do on this particular car. A straight Audi will always sell well, modifying it will reduce your selling market especially during these times when a lot of people are watching the pennies. Either way it will be good content Dean. 👍🏽😎
Rebuild and keep it standard, would like you to keep to a budget so maybe some hope for us guys out there.
Keep it standard and you could probably make more profit
Think you should keep it as standard and replace whats needed to get get it back on the road.
Rebuilt it standard.
Pagid discs and pads.
And a new door card.
@@Chris-hw4mq Pagid are factory fit for Porsche. They're the best, up there with Ferodo.
"cheaping out" would be fitting brands like Eicher, DriveTEC, ECB, Ridex, etc.
ate/zimmerman discs with zinc coat and ate ceramic pads
@@ventouxR yes, they're very good brands too. For commuting and normal driving ordinary brake pads are good. Ceramic pads can sequel or make more noise. The reason ceramic is good is because after lots of heavy braking they take much longer to overheat, for example if you visit the Nürburgring ceramic pads would be nicer.
A 13 y-o highly modded car has a limited market wheras the A3 Quatro is probably a future classic and should sell easily so while it aint my call I'd stick to stock!
Agree, keep it standard.
Mike England Agreed: Standard. Turbo, tidy the interior up, road test, replace broken rear diff, road test, replace that also broken rear diff, swear, and then finish off the RS4. 👍
#bigupyachest #realtalk #preachdat #aintdatdatruth #youknowdemwayswhere
I agree, thats why i bought a 3.2 v6 quattro, manual 3dr, totally original.
Here's hoping!
Full K04 conversion for sale in Peterborough. Feel free to get in contact if you decide to go down that route.
i would stick to standard buddy
Really weird hearing the Square space advert as been hearing it from Matt Armstrong for months now. Love the A3 8P platform, the best IMO. I have both an 8P and 8V Sline. Prefer the tech in the 8V but the look of the 8P. Looking forward to the content!
Ko4 conversion all the way. Do something different to other streamers.. boost to over 300bh 🤜🤜🤜🤜🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲
Keep it standard, as the market to sell-on will be broader and you might achieve your estimated selling price, once the interior is tidied up too.
Keep it as standard, may struggle to get your money back on a tweaked motor.
I just got a 2009 A3 2.0TFSI Quattro in NZ. Its an amazing car and im lucky that it had a great owner before me and they have looked after it. I would love to see you repair and make the car look new but some cheap mods as well
Go K04 as it's OEM+. Easy and popular route for these/mk5 GTI. If you use 2nd hand parts you can do it for only a few hundred and it transforms the car.
I picked up a cheap one of these but a tdi and it just keeps on going and going haha!
My bro has 2l tdi and is solid
Had a fair few miles on it (130k) on purchase but it drives nice and feels sturdy. S line 2008 black one.
Few bits of wear n tear but the engine n drive is solid.
The BKD engine is cracking - unless the head is
Great , would like to see it restored back to original. Still life in this old Audi and would make it a good bargain car for someone 👌
Hello,
I am looking to buy a 2.0tsi/tfsi
Are these engines known to consume oil?
I would keep as standard 200bhp not to be sniffed at.(let the next owner spend out the big bucks) great content 👌
Stay safe go standard 👍
Keep it standard.. you said your self.. it hasn't been messed with it hasn't been thrashed/lowered or anything. Personally I'd like to see the ins and outs of doing the turbo and more fault finding 😀 brilliant for the money! What year is it? You didn't mention in your vid
It’s in the Reg, 56 plate 😀
@@SavingSalvage 🤣🤣🤣
No need for the sarcasm there.. im form Northern Ireland.. our reg is different here
It's an easy system to be fair. 56 is 2006
59 is 2009
62 is 2012
66 is 2016
70 is 2020
@@namegoeshere6638 when you tell me what 56 or 62 stands for yes it's simple. But not everyone on yt is from the UK. I'm from Iceland and living in Norway and in both countries you will have to take a look in the registration papers. But thanks for explaining this for us none UK citizens 😁
Need an update on what you’ve still got, what’s gone and what still needs to be done!
I’d keep it standard and you can make some money out of it then 😁
Yes, that looks like a pretty good sign of total turbo failure...
I'd put it back to standard, if you modify it to S3 standard then the next owner is going to be paying S3 insurance premiums, unless they don't disclose the mods to the insurance, in which case they won't pay out if you crunch it. These were fairly popular with people who couldn't afford, or didn't want to pay S3 money and insurance, and it's likely they still are as they give a lot of the S3 driving experience at a much more affordable level...
The only problem I see with the bigger turbo route - if the car has been "ragged" you will putting extra pressure on a "tired" engine - Keep it standard and like the Skoda do it up!!! Good video - Best wishes Clay
You don’t want to lose money, keep it standard and fix it up. 😎
finally some more affordable cars back on the channel, love it
Ko3 hybrid turbo please never seen it on you tube only the ko4 swap :))))))
tune it and strip it ! get some Saving Salvage branding on it couple of track days have fun, promote the channel with it,
But keep it cheap.
Your last sentence contradicted the first 😂
Bargain at £700 mate. Restore it to its former self. Make a nice little runner for somebody and they just keep going. 👍
From a business perspective fit a KO3 and get it out of the door, as you say there maybe other issues.
From a Dubnut point of view, KO4 all the way but, it is like using £50’s to wipe with 😂
Smashing out another vid with Squarespace sponsorship! Well done mate, this YT channel is going somewhere!
Maybe you could rebuild the turbo yourself just get a mellet chra don't think there that expensive
Think I tend to agree with others.. keep it standard, make a bit of money to invest in the RS4
The modification route would be great if the figures work out for you. Thanks again for these vidoes as they are very interesting 👍
please go for upgrade,, plenty of standard models out there,
I’ve got the 1 gen EA888 engine in my A3. Question, is it ok to drive with these codes. I was told it’s ok. As I drove away. P2015 intake manifold & P0171. It’s running lean, bank 1 . I know it’s an air and fuel mix problem. Car parts want 300£ plus for a manifold. Should I replace it with a cast metal one or stick to the one it came with a plastic one that’s gonna break again as it’s a dodgy part
The oil drinker engine...you obviously didnt do your homework....thats being said some folk would buy a piece of drift wood with an Audi badge on it
LOL
Not a bad buy though-he could sell it for parts and get the money back
Maybe get the turbo modified with a larger set of impellers and remap... So it's standard on the outside but modified on the inside? There's a UK company that does that... Not sure of the scope of it with the current turbo castings?
And 4 matching tyres is always a good idea with 4wd 😊
Good luck either way 🍀🤞
Ko4 conversion; would be good to see the process , and whether the early tfsi engines can handle it... fragile at best... watch oil pump chain sprocket bolt... and the damn cam chain slap 😁
For content and to grow your channel I say do some mods - along the lines of the S3 but keep it fairly oem+ then raffle it off. I’d defo buy a ticket.
Agreed, there are enough videos of k04 conversions. As you said nice to see what looks like a well looked after car that's just worn out and you it seems are the man to give it a refresh!
Definitely keep standard.
Looking forward to this, I like the mechanical videos 😎
I'd go the keep it stock, maybe a little too old a car to mod up 👍
Haha you bought the same car as me! Mines Ebony Pearl, bought it for a cheap in between car after returning a RCZ THP to the finance company due to having it 3 days and the head gasket going, it then broke down 2 more times after that. Any way the A3 drove so much nicer and I’ve fell in love it so kept it! Mine has the lighting pack, auto wipers but no parking sensors.
Some great content would be changing the timing chain, as I bet yours has started to be noisy on startup, Cam end seals, carbon clean from intake, pcp valve (smoke from crank case due to blockage?), upgrading the turbo to the K04 perhaps, retro fitting things like cruise control, (only needs the stalk and VCDS) lighting pack etc.
If you’re going to keep it go k04 and stage 2+ with all the toys. Will be a great fun car to drive having had a stage 2+ edition 30 myself with 360bhp I know this well :)
However a standard k03 A3 all straight and true will sell easy and it’s quick cash turnaround for yourself. More a limited market selling an older A3 with a conversion but I’m sure you already know this as you’re a very knowledgeable guy. Look forward to the next one Dean.
Enjoy your videos very much but watch out for that 'ladybird' on the nearside back wheel
Dont think that engine with over 100,000 miles chalked up would take a huge power increase
KEEP IT STOCK
Seems like it could be a couple issues turbo oil pump balance shafts I would take the sump off and check the pick up pipe for debris blocking it.
If you require any help or information I would join Facebook group tfsi tuning it’s owned by the best tfsi tuner of these engines niki gower of rtech performance for parts I would check group tfsi parts for sale/wanted and Danny hill of Facebook page vagpartswigan if you decide to to modify it which I think you should as there reliable engines once maintained you could go k04 for just over a £1000 easily £650 for a full k04 kit so not massively expensive 👍🏽good look with this journey look forward to the videos on this car
K04 conversion! Limited sale market but good content....sleeper finish....no visual changes :-)
Just upgrade to black front grill (£240 from Audi) and maybe the newer rear lights and a simple stage 1 remap transforms these into near a stock S3 approx 250bhp the k03 spools up early nice low down torque will leave a 3.2 with stage 1, S3 parts to expensive for a conversion S3s that shape 3dr not going for that much
Lovely vag project to get your teeth into. So so much potential. Very best of luck with the project! I’ve done lots of vags but I’ve started my channel with an RX8! I’ve subscribed and will follow closely 😊🚗🚗
Nice project 👌 perhaps keep it stock as the rest of the engine has done 116000 miles so pushing up the bhp could find any other weak points . Stay safe mate 👍 🍺
I would like to See conversion.and price of IT.
Standard and quick flip
New stock turbo
New steering wheel and arm rest on the door.
Mini service
Discs and pads
Cv boot
Missing undertray support
tyres
Valet
Sell. 700 is great for all that car so you shoukd be good to make around a grand on it I reckon. Keep it stock though.
As much as I would love to see you go down the bigger turbo route, its not the sensible one financially. Shame, you could have owned 2 pretty powerfull Audis there. Then again, one day the warrenty will run out on your new one and then the sky's the limit, assuming the finance has been paid off. (Isn't that right RickyLLF😁)
If it had less miles I'd say go big with the K04 etc...but unless you're gonna do a full rebuild--new rods, bearings and all--the engine will be too taxed. As an A3 8P lover/ owner, I think keeping it stock would be the reasonable route with this one, imho.
This should be a interesting series👌🏼 ko4 hybrid it, If you look at my insta you will see the power gains and mods I’ve done to my sport back: black_pearl_s3
Plus keep up the good videos inspires me to always work on my own car instead of being lazy and giving it the garage
Nice project . Keep it standard. New tyres, brakes and recon turbo will be almost a grand. After all the work is done, should get 3.5k to 4k for it. Is it cat N or unrecorded? Thanks.
I would like to sea the ko4 conversion. You can buy many good second hand parts like intercooler and piping. My brother thit the conversion and buyed like e dv frol go fast bits on alieexpress, and some pipind also to use for the conversion, the are cheap and on the tfsi forums on facebook are many people that sell upgrade parts for this engines. My brother cleaned the valvas himself, put e new thermostate in because like 60% are driving with e faulted or not openng good thermostate on this engine, ge buyed e brand new k04 turbo injectors, wagner intercooler, for e good, price form someone that stopt his project. Then ge buyed some parts like intercooler piping from alieexpress. Ge buyed e new hpfp internall, and rs4 pressure rail valve. Car thid from 200 to 379hp en dsg stage 3 on the dsg.it was e fast car, butt this hass qautrro 😅
intermittent errors are because of low battery voltage on these cars. charge the battery, clear codes, run the engine for 10 mins and check codes again. then you will have a true image of which codes are thrown. i had this on my E60 BMW , on low voltage battery i had a TON of weird fault codes.
I just bought a 2.0TFSI a month ago, exact same color and inside but not Quattro and with DSG, what i can tell is, this one isnt sline, its just aftermarket badges :) those engine are strong but they may sound dieselish a bit sometimes :) Enjoy, with a remap its a sleeper monster , and btw the crack on the armrest from the door is on 100% of them, mine too!
Put a Venom 430 hybrid turbo on it along with a downpipe, intake and injectors and map it to the max.
The engine wouldn’t handle a venom hybrid a k04 Yh with a few simple mods would be better and a rtech tune
Ah yes. The 15 year old black Audi A3. The weapon of choice for every thoroughbred chav in the country.
I've seen plenty of these by the side of the road after they've been pulled over by the police, while the grey flannel clad driver tries to explain why he has no tax, MOT or insurance.
And why he stinks of weed.
Useless information.
I say return it to its former KO3 glory. These are getting a little rawcomoared to what we have today. It'll be a great show piece to see it stock. Just go OEM plus...don't break the bank
Keep it stock, Maybe a small increase in power of 20% is ok(250bhp is sweet spot) but doubling the power of this engine is risky - Almost certain end of that engine.
I always liked those little A3’s, I personally have a 2003 Audi A6 Avant 3.0L V6. Love to find someone that can also appreciate Audi’s
S3 it mate I have a 2.0tfsi dsg 05 with facelift front end it's only on 70k and I'd say the only thing that lets it down is the fact it's non quattro it's really quick for what it is but I have exhaust mods and a map
I have pushed a similar A3 today - it is heavy and not something i want to be repeating. Inspired by these videos i have bought a 2004 A3 TDI - its a Copart Lemon. How it is run and drive i don't know. Delivered almost a week ago and still not started it. Arrived with flat battery and bonnet will not open as no release cable so anyone know of any tricks to pop the bonnet i would be grateful to hear
Keep it standard but show how much work it is just swapping the turbo on these and make a profit then on to the next one
Think I'd put it to standard. Might just be my age but over 100k is a leggy engine to try to double it's power without stripping and rebuilding it completely I would imagine the oil looking fresh is probably because it's been refilled so often with it burning/losing it rather than an indication of care.
We don't get Manual 2.0tfsi Quattro A3 sportbacks in the States.
If it's AWD then it's Automatic
Personally Id love to see the K04 conversion. I have an A4 with an 2.0TFSI from the same year. Id love to K04 my car.
Have to agree with the others, the upgrade would make good content but not financial sense unless you intended to keep it. If you’re flipping it, just do only what is required to make it run well and pass MOT.
Perhaps best to keep 100% standard. Good car potentially. Great video and your knowledge and understanding make great watching.
Don't complain about rain - we'd love some - love the sound of rain. You said how pleased you are that the car hadn't been modified, so logic says a lot of other people would think the same, thus making it harder to sell when completed if you modify or "upgrade" it. Also people like to do their own modifications to suit their tastes and desires so I'd take it back to standard, clean and detail it and you should maximise your profit, thus allowing a better project next time.
If you're looking to make money on it, keep it standard. If you want to have a little fun, S3 it. Fun car to thrash around. Then again, be aware that sometimes these turbos go and parts get sucked into the engine. Oh, and no way does that Quattro work. Sorry. I feel your pain as an S3 owner.
Would be interesting to see what you could get from this using cheap parts for those of us on budgets?
K04 that thing. Rtech stage 2+
I don't like it, the windshield isn't cracked. Apart from that, the car looks in good nick so you can really just focus on the mechanical side. And another vote to leave it stock. I'd look into prepping a car to tune a bit more in depth, maybe something you always wanted to do, who knows.
Personally I'd say standard. Just think, if you can do a cheap rebuild on it then park it in a shipping container for 15yrs. You'd get a far bigger return on your investment than having the same amount of cash in the bank!
From a financial point of view just repair it back to standard. From a fun point of view get ringing TurboTechnics for a nice hybrid unit. Front mount intercooler and go the whole 9yds.
Keep it as standard , you said yourself you don't like cars that has been messed with !
Blocked PCP Valve could cause the excessive oil past the turbo seals couldn’t it, also that smoke billowing from the crank case?
🕷 web do one😂😂
Keep it standard... quicker turnover, bigger market, less upfront outlay!
Keep her standard. And polish her up. Send her on 😅. Don't get me wrong I would love to see a k04 hybrid turbo on her though at the same time 🙊 tuff one
Aww an old A3 I had mine for 16 years and it had 170k on the clock when I part exed it. The only thing wrong with it was rust where the jacking points were. I had to replace the throttle body in the end when the new MOT rules came in place about engine management lights. But she did me well for so long I do miss her.
Dean, keep it standard, its worth more.I am a dealer and i hate cars that have been modified,it makes the average person wary and the cars never drive as as good. That was a good buy at £700,its a popular fast hatch and when sorted should return a good profit!
Keep it standard UNLESS... one of the viewers wants to give you a decent Deposit for it 'Finished' to his or her upgraded spec'
Nice usable car but never going to be worth a fortune so I would fix the turbo with a cheap CHRA rather than upgrade but YMMV.
buy a cheap chinese k04 from ebay and send the car for remap or buy mpps cable and make a video " How to remap your car for free" :p
All the best ! :)
@Saving Salvage please just keep it standard. Would be great content but just a waste a money for you. At the most a #K04 & a remap but that's it. #OE+ #maximum
I would probably stay stock and look to the potential to recoup a tidy profit. Availability and price of stock parts (both new and used) will avoid a hefty outlay on a car that is knocking on 14 years old.
I'd go with what Keith said and go down the stock route. Modified cars in the North of England seem to be something younger chaps than me like to do but they make no money unless they are an old ford. No sense in loosing money unless you want to keep it. A repair video is fine by me pal,
Rebuild, keep standard and don't modify. Easier to sell and move onto the next project. Modified don't add much real value
Id go for a sleeper eg cheap now but in the future it may be worth something. Possibly valued youngtimer. So keep it as original as possible.
