Body dysmorphia is a living HELL. Anyone with an ED can tell you that, but it can happen on it's one and in just one part of the body, when you actually have alucinations and just aren't able to see yourself how you trully are, it's always distorded.
It is by no mens new, but the rise of cosmetic procedures is making it all worse, as seen here.
Gosh, I hate the stigma on mental health so so so much...
Great video and good job explaining the story in such a short time, you got it all and it was easy to follow (even though, like I said before, I really enjoy longer videos😄)

It was such a sad process cause she was already beautiful before those surgeries but because of standards most girls put upon ourselves and then fueled by judgemental society, she had to resort to seek for perfection. And those standards she put on herself just kept getting higher and higher the more she becomes unsatisfied with herself. The beauty she sought for came at a high price though, she lost herself. I'm glad though that she was able to come around before everything was too late.

Being a nineteen-year-old girl in Korea is hard. I’m pretty sure it’s the same for anywhere else but this really is a problem. While it might not be like a few centuries ago when female were just seen as some sort of a prize or trophy, the media is forcing high beauty standards, not only for women but also for men too. People are craving beauty and youth so bad it goes to a crazy level and they’re oblivious of the fact they’re crazy. The fan lady’s case is crazy and it’s totally uncommon, but it’s heartbreaking to see my friends on diet or having low self esteem, not being able to wear what they want to wear, do what they want to do just because they they’re not good enough.

  • @AmbiCahira

I think the craziest thing is that I get it how it could spiral like that. When I was a young teen my country's beauty standard was literally biologically impossible so it did only harm to all young girls. You were supposed to be not too tall not too short, thin but curvy chest and hips but not a "fat butt" and a flat tummy, and you definitely were supposed to have small feet and of course a pretty face. I remember buying skater shoes that I hid under bell bottom pants so that only a tiny bit of toe poked out under the pant leg to seem as small feet as possible, bought ridiculous bras that were filled with gel liquid to get bigger sizes, started to starve myself frequently because empty bowels take less space so the belly can seem flatter and I did get addicted to the victorious feeling of not giving in to hunger and would brag how long I went without food. It was such a slippery slope and gets out of control so easily. I learned the hard way that beauty isn't worth the expensive cost of your health. At my lowest I weighed less than 40 kg at 19 years old which is terrifying now that I'm older and wiser. Oh yeah and pale skin was seen as ugly so I was insecure about my pale skintone for way too long (until I learned about Koreas beauty standards where they grew up with the opposite and it helped me see that it was a programming I needed to let go of) and girls would try to sun tan with rubbing cooking oil on their skin instead of sunblock because they hoped it would help a tan. Luckily our sun was too weak to cause actual harm but the things especially teen girls do to themselves in the name of beauty is scary.

I am a teenager and I am very cautious of my appearance. I wouldn't say that I am obsessed but sometimes I feel myself getting there. Deep down, I know that I shouldn't care that much, but its hard not to when we live in a very judgmental and appearance based society. People are nicer to you when you are beautiful, and you get a lot of attention, But Mioku's story inspires me to take it easy on myself.

Honey, all females understand how awful the teen years are. I was teased for my long hair and full lips- my eyelashes are extremely long and was teased till I cried. Now, lol, women spend literally thousands a year for my lips, hair and eyelashes. Be kind to yourself, do not look at photos of models and want their look. You’ll never get it. Be happy with yourself, work with what you have. Make the best of your looks. I’m 53 now, I have perfect skin, I’m still a size 4, I still have very long hair which I no longer bleach blonde. That’s the worst thing we can do to our hair, I colour it without bleaching and my hair has never been so healthy. Be kind to yourself honey ❤️

Filters change your face shape, and even cameras alter your looks. There have been so many times when I felt cute and wanted to take a pic, but as soon as I opened my camera I just felt so defeated. I hope that everyone has that moment where they look in the mirror and realize they are beautiful and more than enough. To everyone in the comments, keep doing you and stay awesome.

But I (along with so many other Asian people I know) have kinda just grown up with comments on our appearances all the time. For example, I had a Vietnamese co worker who was called "fat boy" by family all the time. When he lost the weight though, he got comments like he looked sick. There is just so much pressure to be attractive and look a certain way. Hang's story is super sad, but I understand why she felt this need to change her face in the first place

I have become a K-drama fan but I am only now realizing the insane standards for beauty. I notice that all the key actors are very thin & beautiful. It seemed if you are tall, good looking, a model & being a singer helps then you can have a promising career in the Korean film industry. The early days ofHollywood were like this. The studios owned the actors & did whatever it took to improve the actors to make them glamorous stars of old. Surgery, acting & dancing lessons etc. They also controlled their personal lives. I think the Korean film industry does this as well. I can only hope thing will improve around the world for young people who think that superficial beauty is the answer to all of their problems.

this is such a sad case... victims of the beauty standards. it really can make you go crazy, being told everyday by the society you grow up in that you are not "enough". it becomes the only thing that matters. the thing that defines everything youre worth of.

I'll copy paste my other comment: Body dysmorphia is a living HELL. Anyone with an ED (like myself) can tell you that, but it can happen on it's one and in just one part of the body, when you actually have alucinations and just aren't able to see yourself how you trully are, it's always distorded.
It is by no mens new, but the rise of cosmetic procedures is making it all worse, as seen here.
Gosh, I hate the stigma on mental health so so so much...
I'll like to add that these se called doctors, or even licenced doctors that agree on procedures that are clearly dangerous and unnecessary just for the money disgust me to a point I can't even explain. You're supposed to HELP people, not just do whatever for money.
I feel her so much. Thankfully she had her doggy to give her love. Pets are absolutely amazing.
May the earth be light upon you, Mioku 💜

It seems like Mioku had a severe case of body dysphoria. Most people cope with it by transitioning or getting plastic surgery. I'm somebody who has body dysphoria and I've struggled with it my whole life, but I somehow feel like I understand how Mioku was feeling. She just wanted to be beautiful but couldn't look past her flaws.
