The mother who vandalized Junko’s grave also infuriates me. It’s your own sh*tty son’s f*cking fault that his life is ruined, not a dead 16 year-old (who was minding her own business). She didn’t ‘seduce’ him to madness like you keep acting as though she did. HE decided to entrap and kidnap her. We can only hope that the rest of their lives are a living hell. It will never be the same as The living hell Junko Furuta suffered, but since Japan is a HIGHLY reputation based society, and those sick bastards have been doxed (in the last decade by a journalist, if I remember right), they won’t be able to escape it under anonymity. It will a burden that they can’t unload. And That kind of disturbed character doesn’t just mellow out with time.
And yes, it horrified me as a woman as well. I remember hearing about this in my highschool years, and I was a teenage girl at the time to. 😓
I’m not exaggerating that the details made me nauseated, and I had this sick chilly feeling for a while. I couldn’t fathom the agony of living that for even a day or to, let alone 44 f*cking days. And then the thought of having my corpse be disposed of like a victim of a goddamn serial killer or some cartel/mafia. By some who were fellow teenagers, and some of which were classmates.😳😰

And then it made me think, If I could get so horrified reading it, what on earth did she feel. It is beyond imagination and sympathy/empathy, i cannot even put myself in her shoes, no one really can at al. You start to wonder if feeling sorry is even worth it because theres nothing you can do or couldve done, which at end makes you bury your head in your hands wondering how some humans could even withstand inflicting this torture onto someone else. I definitely cannot fathom this tragic, horrific, life slaughtering, premeditated horror. And to find out the people behind it are rather scott free than having a LIFE sentence. Then to find out there are mangas made of it that actually sexualize it more than give it justice. Horrific. This is one time while reading 4 days daily occurences that i actually said 'please die, stop surviving'. And even she did survive all of this, her brain was already reduced to a size beyond compare due to avid and unimaginable distress, even making it out of this, wouldve continued to haunt her or damage her livelihood.

As someone living in Korea the laws are just unbelievable a rapist gets as much as someone who smoked marijuana ! We saw that we the burning sun they got 6 years then after a retrial it was reduced to 5 years and Seungri I think just went to the army im not sure he got jail time ! They are plenty of cases like this and NO ONE feels like it’s sickening it sets an example for men and women killers/rapists. Just do it you’ll get a slap on the wrist but please don’t speak marijuana because it’s such a heinous crime ! I love Korea don’t get me wrong but once someone crossed the line he/she will do it again and maybe it will escalate they should learn from the past cases and make a damn change to make sure that monsters are either given the death penalty or life without parole ! I have no oh he/she can change they made that choice when they could have walked away !
So no no sympathy or empathy on my part sounds harsh but as rape victim even over 20 years I still have nightmares and can’t trust men easily ! I talk from experience and these victims the one who survived will have to learn how to LIVE again without the fear of being assaulted or worse !

What happened to Junko Furuta should not had ever occurred; she deserved to had to ability to grow into her future. All life is sacred and no one should be able to take the action to end a life. I truly pray that in her death, she was able to finally find peace and healing to be able to go to the next part of her life. I hope that her family know that she is watching over them and waiting for them to come find her in her next life. I wish them nothing but happiness and prosperity. May no one ever have to suffer like young Junko Furuta did.

This case is the only case that I had such emotions towards. I only feel emotions towards animals and children. Nothing really bothers me but this is the only one that truly left me shocked and always on my mind. There’s a movie called Concrete. It’s about her case and it’s horrible (not the movie but the things they did to her and the movie doesn’t even show everything because it’s too much gore). Those men deserved the death penalty and deserve to die in pain. They deserve to endure all the pain they made Junko felt. All because she rejected someone. She fought so hard until she couldn’t anymore… that’s what breaks my heart the most. She’s so beautiful and the world lost a beautiful soul. A soul that was taken away and she never even got to live her life or follow her dreams… that seriously breaks my heart

Really Japan and Korea need to update their jurisdiction system and laws and punishments with today's time. They should've given some kindoff torture punishment for like 60 days and made them suffer more worse then the poor girl that went through until they begged for their deaths. They should've suffer the same thing so they could've realised from what hell she went through. Idc if they r miniors or affiliated with Yakuza, what they did was absolutely inhumane and the sad thing is after all this, they most probably r still alive and have no remorse whatsoever for their actions.

One of the boys’ brother went and actually told the police department about this around the second week of Junko being held captive there. Two officers went to the house, the parents answered the door and they were asked about this ordeal and informed them about someone reporting this incident. They denied it and were like “that’s nonsense we don’t have anything like that in our house! You can check yourself!” And that’s like a type of manipulation and it’s like “if I offer them to come in that will automatically make me look innocent because why would I let them in if something like that is going around in my house” and the cops took their fucking WORD for it!! LIKE THEY COULD HAVE JUST GOTTEN INSIDE TO ACTUALLY CHECK! Informing the police of someone being captive is SERIOUS! Let alone being held captive AND tortured. Considering the court system in Korea, I estimated at least 10 years but I guess it’s even worse than I thought. I hate it when people take advantage of things like having more strength or blackmailing with people the victim loves.
And while I totally understand that the owner of the house was wrong, I’d have to say that I kind of understand their situation too. It was over three decades ago and back then, Japan or Korea didn’t really have much interest in human rights or so. Back then, gangsters could be scarier than cops, and the cops wouldn’t have been able to protect anyone the gang was trying to get to. So, I know what they did is wrong but to be honest, I can’t say that I wouldn’t have been like them if I were in the situation.

Hearing the amount of compassion and empathy you had in your voice honestly made me cry. It's kind of refreshing to hear a man express how much a crime to that absolutely unfathomable degree makes their blood boil as well. I've heard so many stories of 'oh this girl got killed cause she rejected a guy's promposal' or this woman got killed because she broke up with her boyfriend. To be honest, at least with the men around me (currently a US college student), they don't really show much empathy or any feeling at all whenever the femicide/SA epidemic is brought up so I appreciate your channel for providing that emotional component as well during your analysis. Your channel has helped to remind me that there are good people, good men out there in this crazy world still, so thank you.
RIP Junko, you have been and will continue to be very missed 😔

I read about this case a few years back, and it is still the worst thing I have ever read. Honestly, even the worst information my mind has ever come across. I wish Junko Furuta could've felt some love or comfort from someone between those 44 days and her death, but know she didn't and it's devastating. I also feel for her parents, can you imagine knowing that your child went through 44 days of hell on earth in ways that they could've never imagined? If I were them I would've lost my mind. Indescribably horrific.

what an awfully tragic and heartbreaking story, but thank you for covering it and spreading awareness, i genuinely had never heard of it, but i am definitely as outraged and upset as i feel you are. it's absolutely unforgivable that the judicial system hasn't improved one bit, this type of thing should not even have been taken so lightly back then, but to think that it isn't even that much better now..

The first time I heard about this case was when I was about Junko's age too (15/16). I was traumatised I couldn't even sleep well and thought Junko was watching me. It's really crazy. That was when I was still scared about ghosts and stuff. But yeah. I hope this case get reopen. It's really unfair for Junko to get tortured and die just because she rejected the asshole.

I watched the movie “Concrete” Not sure how reliable it was for accuracy. But still was awful seeing what she had to go through. And knowing they didn’t get much of a sentence just angers me.

All these cases make me cry so hard. The fact that any of them were able to get any less than life in prison is absolutely horrifying. As an Indigenous woman, these stories terrify me because so many of these stories happen to us that no one reports or even talks about.

Hey Terry, I'm glad you're back with this topic. I do have to agree about how Japan manages it's judicial system. I heard from one of my japanese students that death penalty is still present in Japan. But hearing this information, it disgusts me how they just throw this case away without giving the justice she TRULY deserves.

When I first heard about this case my heart felt like it was tore in half, the main culprit had Yakuza ties apparently that's why no one really did anything as well, sorry to say this if it's too extreme but if there was any reason or excuse for street justice he deserved it in every single way possible, the amount of torture he put that poor girl through makes me wonder just how much more worse the human race can get when they don't get their way, I hope she is resting in peace 😭😭😭😭

I remember watching a documentary regarding random stabbings committed by high school students in Japan. It said the teens intentionally murder or engage in heinous acts before turning 18 because the punishment is just a couple of years in a rehabilitation center that's more or less like Beverly Hills rehab- comfortable and with amenities like swimming pools and tennis courts. Essentially they figure, "why not?"

I... I get so angry whenever I hear that the ones who should protect the innocent, end up doing nothing or not enough...
There was this case in my country, Romania, where a girl was kidnapped and when she called the police they got angry at her for keeping the line busy...
If you want to know more, search for "The Caracal Case"...

I- Absolute shock. Literally crying right now for Junko Furuta. Rest In Peace. God bless her for being such an amazing person. Can't believe monsters like them who believe they have the right to be called humans exist. What scares me the most though is that this could happen to anyone. And...anyone could do what these guys did. It's sickening. Japan, do better.

I guessed 5-10 years for the sentence, so I'm glad most of the offenders ended up getting more time. There are so many cases like these where offenders get light sentences, and if the victim lives somehow, the blame gets put on them, and it doesn't help that there are some laws out there that are just cruel towards survivors. As for the people in this case that stayed silent, I can understand in part as they were probably trying to protect their family, and I can't say I wouldn't have done the same, but it would have been nice if they said something even if only for their sake. A life lived at the expense of someone else's happiness isn't a life worth living. Life isn't easy, and in hopes of making themselves feel better, people become complacent and stay silent, thinking that taking no action is okay. Whether we like it or not, behind every choice is a consequence and an intention, even if it's unconscious and unintentional. At the end of the day, we can go out of our way to be kind to someone or we can go out of our way to be cruel to someone. As nice as it would be to sit back and have that gray area where we don't have to do anything, sadly, in most cases, the consequence of complacency is cruelty and the regret and guilt that come after are a heavy burden to bear. Life is too short not to take chances and do something meaningful yet far too long to put yourself through that kind of misery. I can't imagine how much that must have been eating away at them after.

To help you out terry, The way they were caught, it mentioned that two of the boys were suspected of an assault and a similar attempt on a couple of other women that got away. They reported them and when the cops arrested them on suspicion of assault they assumed the cops found junko. During the interrogation, they had no idea what the cops were talking about. They thought the police were mentioning how they found junkos body and they assumed they were busted when in reality they were talking about assault reports. Then they caved in and let all the information out and told the police where junko was.

I legit couldn't sleep that night because of the sheer inhuman cruelty displayed here. Junko Furata never got justice and the creatures who committed this vile act got off waaaaay too easy.
