Windows 11 is a dog. After promising that Windows 10 was the last version, MS tried to convince users to buy new hardware to upgrade to.....the same OS with a minor graphical update. They didn't anticipate that users were smart enough to reject this ploy. Now MS is stuck constantly updating a "new" OS hovering at only 26% of the Windows marketshare while constantly fearmongering to Windows 10 users, who make up 70% of their userbase. 10 year old hardware can run Windows 11 just fine, yet MS wants you to increase e-waste and throw out your old PC. MS still thinks they're the only kid on the block with an OS. Times have changed. We don't need MS.

Yeah, 2016 i have bought a i7 6700K that isn't supported on Win 11, even if my Mainboard does software based TPM 2.0 i can't install it. It runs perfectly for Media, Office, and with a RTX 3060 it would even run a lot of modern games more than sufficient. The best thing would be if environmental groups or the EU would realize the impact of this topic and the amount of waste Microsoft will create and start to pressure Microsoft. We talk about millions of computers becoming waste, even if their performance is still more than enough.
It would be laughable if Microsoft will be allowed to block million intact PCs from WIN 11, while smartphone manufacturers have to implement USB-C because three different cables are too much, even when most of those cables won't survive much longer than 5 year anyway.

With the only option to buy new computers, many are just not going to upgrade at all. I have Win11 on one computer and I hate the damn thing. Even though Windows can be a pain in the ear, as a computer Engineer, I have pulled an extensive set of tools that come from various Open Source sources that are extremely effective so that even with the fact that Win10 support is going away it's not that big of a deal especially if you consider to do a hardware firewall over a software firewall also if you set your system32 folder to read only that will help tremendously. Linux Distros are fine and Win 10 has Linux built right in... But you have to enable it yourself. Also Knoppix is still a good "start anything live" platform. You can consider also to plugging an external drive into your system and storing your data to that and unmounting / unplugging the drive after you're done for the day. When dealing with older business critical software and hardware, I'd suggest using the OS upgrade as an excuse for a drive upgrade so you can test the OS first. If everything works you can finish setting it up, and demote the old drive to being your D:\ drive. If something doesn't work then you just swap the drives back till an update is available to fix it.

The government searches for vulnerabilities in software, both the OS and applications. These are then identified and published so the vendors have to correct them with updates. Even the Linux distros must do updates. (One malicious backdoor was recently discovered in a linux build but fortunately it was caught before release.) Otherwise all the vulnerabilities that have been published will be exploited by bad actors. Updates are a fact of life with the internet.

I would never risk having A.I in my file explorer I cannot trust any company with so much power on my personal computer, its called personal computer for a reason... If I want to play with A.I things there are much healthier ways to go about doing it with just a few google searches. Hope my comment doesnt get deleted.

Here's the bigger issue is that gaming will have any problem depending on your hardware your CPU is gonna be the determination of how well your computer is gonna perform it might run Windows and do basic things but to do intense video games like Call of Duty apex Fortnite this could be a complication because the older the processor the more usage it's gonna take for Windows run and it utilizes more ram on top of it. Furthermore than Linux section has another issue about running an alternative operating system that most video games will not work with the online feature so switching to Linux might not be the best idea especially if you do online gaming because Linux gives too much free roam access to the user. great video thank you

MS do extended support for a long time provided you can pay! For example Windows 7 Embedded. From what I read MS ended extended support for that OS just last year. People who live in San Francisco/Bay Area/and tourists might be interested as the BART Clipper Card machines still run on that OS. So unless Microsoft made some special exception for BART, support for those machines ran out last year. Whether this is a big risk or not I have no idea but the machines accept cash and credit cards.

You might also not be able to update if your a large organisation using custom purpose built software like in hospitals so in that scenario you would have to pay a huge amount of money to have that software redeveloped from scratch to be compatible with a new operating system while potentially also having to unnecessarily replace existing medical equipment like CT scanners.
