Exactly that’s what I picked the other two options weren’t even on my mind especially when you can pick up the persuasion items like alcohol or pills so easily
@@JollyBlackwellbut you'd still be limited to 3 and "file not found" ,fits most with you being Starborn. I've got to agree with the people above, it should've let us pick the 3
I prioritize pretty much everything over combat skills because the other skills let you do new things and combat just makes combat easier and it's already easy at least if you play on normal.
just get a companion and make them haul all the junk you have, keep the best weapons and trade with them to keep ur junk and most of the weight. I go around planets with 90/140 capacity and everytime i need to grab more junk i just deposit it in their inventories
Yeah i don't know why choosing backgroud takes awhile, i think it's more important than the starting skills they give. Sure some of them are useful than the others but backgrounds give your character more depth. They also offer unique dialogue options
I went diplomat when I started playing. I love it so much. It also gives you Specific diplomat options instead of just persuasion. like I was able to go the diplomat rout and save both the robbers and the hostages in akila city.
It’s good for the stagger resist at stage 4. I play a mostly melee build so being able to tank through an enemy’s stagger attack is great. Also I’m a chronic pack rat.
Scoundrel was great for me since i love pistols, ship customization so it gives me a headstart on getting higher class reactors and persuasion for that sweet charmer vibe.
I used to think it depended on your play style, but 2 things you can't avoid, imo are confrontation and storage issues. I chose professor because that's more of my real-life persona (into learning new things and science). If I did it over, it'd probably be something like bounty hunter or anything that prioritizes increased carrying capacity and starship skills (e.g. piloting). Since you can't avoid confrontation, if you're not the best at combat, pick a background that has 1 or 2 combat traits.
In my opinion it’s best to take skills you’ll have a hard time investing points into early (scanning, research methods, commerce, really any skill not related to combat.) as you naturally want to make your damage and survivability better, so it’s better to take utility skills. Also, getting Scanning early on is so useful for getting free exp early game by completing Constellation orders and scanning things. Go to a barren moon with like 2 resources and free 200-300 exp.
Bounty Hunter is my personal favorite. Even better, I managed to first try that pirate’s persuasion without that perk by just telling him he didn’t want to fight me lol.
I really wish that some of the backgrounds allowed you too choose higher level traits. Like if you went industrialist you could get access to outpost management early on and such
@@Henchman.24u missing out. Ever want to reroll the mantis armor. Quicksave ur best friend. A few reloads and u can get the best armor in the game. With a few unique encounters and dialogue. For sure worth it.
Cyber runner best for early credits , pick named characters up to 1k each Lock picking and stealth just my 2 pennies, but early levels should go into targeting piloting boostpack weightlifting if you go this route -cheers
I chose bounty Hunter not knowing what the skills were because it sounded cool but then I realize how overpowered it was to steal ships right off the bat
I chose my stats based on what i am personally good at. So i ended up as a chef lol But my first encounter with spacers, I convinced them that there was nothing on the frontier 🤣

Long Hualer, weight lifting for all the gear you will definitely being carrying due to cargo capacity. Piloting because your gonna be in many dog fights with ballistic training to boot.
I feel like back grounds skills should be tier 4. Like it’s technically only 3 skill points which can get really fast 12 would be much better plus it’s not like they are the end ones they are starter traits so you won’t be that power full
science and tech are by far the best skill trees in the game. Bounty hunter is probably the best starting pick. I mean you don’t even need any skill points in persuasion to pass the checks. It’s all luck based
Ronin all the way. A lot of the game’s combat is close quarters, like invading the enemy’s ship or outposts for example. Nothing better than hacking your way through the mobs to find the big chief and then proceeding to hack them to pieces as well.
Nah, industrialist is probably one of the top two in the whole game. Only thing that beats it is scoundrel. Persuasion, tech picking, and less resources spent on research? Objectively good.
Bounty Hunter is the best imo. Pilot and jetpacks are practically required, and (arguably) so is targeting, so why not take advantage of them right from the start?

With booster pack being so easy to unlock and not even getting a pack with a booster in it for a good bit into the game, don’t waste the skill on character building. Pick three others and unlock it once you’ve leveled up.

I approve this post.
That's what I took, and commandeered a ship during the tutorial. Absolutely no regrets.
if you start on very hard, go shotgun & rifle asap (ballistic too with soldier)
Really wished the “file not found” one let you choose which skills you wanted.
Well that's y it says file not found
Either way it’s still the best because you get ballistics wellness and piloting, some of the most important skills
Same but I went with it anyways and I'm glad I did
While that would be nice, it invalidates the entire system which is supposed to give you choice while still limiting you

Yo
I picked scoundrel, as you get persuasion, piloting, and you’re more efficient with pistols. Helped me out a lot early game
I think the weight lifting skill is a must because carrying around a-lot of weight is so annoying
It only increases weight by 10 to start. So minuscule you might as well get a much more valuable perk.
Or just get the ship design skill where you can just make a hauling space ship which can carry all your stuff around in
just get a companion and make them haul all the junk you have, keep the best weapons and trade with them to keep ur junk and most of the weight. I go around planets with 90/140 capacity and everytime i need to grab more junk i just deposit it in their inventories

Carrying capacity is the only thing that is important right from the start.
false
I’ve done 11 play throughs so far over 100 hours of gameplay and still don’t have a single skill point in weight lifting lol
