You mentioned they are tortured before being killed and by definition this is true based on their species. Torture implies inflicting serious pain or suffering as a punishment, and the punishment in this case is the fact that they are pigs, cows, chickens, etc. If they were cats or dogs they wouldn't be tortured because we value them as companions.

I don’t know if the punishment is that they are pigs, cows, chickens etc. I am struggling to understand what the animals are being “punished” for. An animal being born as a pig does not mean that they deserve punishment.

Ok but let’s look at this with a neutral lens, just focusing on how good someone debates and not what “side” we support (because I support Joey’s cause overall).
The fact is that sometimes Joey’s hypotheticals are total logical failures and completely absurd. For example, he says here what if we breed some humans for meat in farms, separating them from society so killing them doesn’t ruin society.
I’m in serious shock that the guy didn’t automatically fire back with the fact that it is awful for society the very moment we confine innocent people to begin with, much less kill them and their offspring (regardless of it being done on a farm).
That’s the equivalent of carrying out the death penalty on an innocent person, only eating them afterwards (it makes no difference). Western society does _NOT_ tolerate doing that to any innocent person or their kids, *INCLUDING* the innocent ones that offered themselves up to confinement via a crime confession, for one reason or another.
Just because people are in prison doesn’t mean that they aren’t a part of society in some fashion. We have prison guards that are deeply affected working with these prisoners… we have people who work in a court room that do too, and nurses and doctors and psychiatrists, etc., etc..
*Prisoners don’t exist in a vacuum.*
It would be the very same exact thing with innocent people in a farm. They would still be a part of society in some fashion.

I was never rude to you, but you just couldn’t help yourself to be rude af to me, merely because I challenged your opinion. Pathetic.
You even condescended to me again by saying that I am “just like the guy in the debate” when I am not whatsoever (I even said off the bat that I support Joey’s side overall, ya doIt), because like a true cornered ad hominem arguer with nothing logical to come back with, you went off REEEEEing and dismissing my comment/talking down to me.
It’s clear you simply couldn’t handle someone challenging your viewpoint in the slightest, with you thinking Joey did a flawless “bang on” debate here, and figured that if you talked down to me enough, you’d come off looking good.
You weren’t able to understand or logically reply to my comment at all, and instead chose to be the typical biased white knight responder isn’t capable of having an unbiased intellectual discussion. The type of responder that thinks Joey is a god that says everything perfectly and can’t ever be wrong or go about something in an illogical manner.
I never said that Joey can’t make-up things for debates or that it wasn’t an effective way of arguing (you imagined that for some bizarre reason)… For people that have an lQ above room temperature, they would understand that I simply was saying that it needs to be done properly and sometimes Joey comes up with extremely BAD false equivalency/illogical hypotheticals, and this indeed was one of those times (it was super cringe in this instance, tbh).
You even finish your reply with more absurdity, by actually _complaining_ that I replied to you regarding what _YOU_ said, instead of my writing a comment in the main comment section for “more responders,” as if that was supposed to be my goal.
Maybe that’s _YOUR_ goal (needing as much replies/attention as possible), but others aren’t as insecure and merely just want to respond to someone when they have something to say to them, creating conversation when and where they see fit.
In all my years on YT, this is the first time I’ve *ever* seen someone complain that I replied to them and didn’t write in the main comment section instead, lmfao. It really shows how angry you get when someone effectively challenges what you write, and you realize they have a solid point, but you have too much of an ego to admit they are.
I hope you grow up one day.
And I know that you will most likely respond with “TL;DR” as a way to continue to protect your ego and condescend to me, but we both know you did read it, as will others.

Killing humans is bad so killing animals is just as bad? Is a terrible analogy, Life has always eaten other life, many of them eat their own kind, why is eating meat all of a sudden bad now? Because a tiny percentage of the vegan population deems it immoral so we should all stop eating meat? It’s absolutely laughable

His "fundamental" beliefs aren't really fundamental, there are underlying reasons and values that he hasn't explored, but exploring them makes him uncomfortable so he stops at the "fundamental" belief that killing animals for food is ok, or killing humans is wrong.

Well done Joey, a good conversation and you nailed it again.
Torture: The act of causing great physical or mental pain in order to persuade someone to do something or to give information, or to be cruel to a person or animal.
Torture is being in a situation or position where the victim is not comfortable in the environment and has been subjected to physical or mental pain that evokes feelings being scared, vulnerable and frightened.
Animals raised for food will always involve torture, you can’t put them in a unnatural environment that isolates them from social connection, freedom to roam, malnourishment/overfeeding, and purposely seeing them as products as the end result.
If a human was put in a cage for weeks and subsisted of little water, food. fresh air and sunlight they’d be malnourished. Even if scientists could measure torture and it was negligible or non existent you still can make reason for a process which is unnecessary.

They justify the taking of life, for nothing more than a flavor. If a person is given a choice between a dessert they love and a dessert they are just ok with and asked to choose between the two, with the one caveat being if they choose their favorite, a kitten will be killed...most will choose the just ok dessert. If they they choose the kitten dying for flavor, its likely they are heading into a sociopathic direction. As vegans, we need to remove the concept of survival in these discussions and show it for what is actually happening which is killing is fine for the enjoyment of flavor.

    Really interesting read.

I'm not sure about that. I think he may actually feel a little conflicted about the topic, and using his "humans are special" argument as a sort of defensive mechanism to prevent him from thinking too deeply about it. I can definitely relate, because this was more or less my stance on meat eating before going vegan myself. I wish somebody had sat me down for a discussion like this, because I'm sure I would have made the connection much sooner.

I think an interesting thing would be to ask him if he would buy lab grown meat. If suffering is the only thing he cares about and said he'd be willing to pay more for meat with no suffering, then there you go.

    • @johndouglas9893
      @johndouglas9893 Год назад

Why does it have to be "Lab grown meat" for him to go vegan? He can try a multitude amount of different vegan mock meats that are incredible and simply look up recipes online... there you go.

    • @suicune2001
      @suicune2001 Год назад

@@johndouglas9893 I agree. I'm only talking about his question of, "What if there was sufferless meat?" If my family went vegan but decided to cook lab grown meat at a BBQ then I might eat it since there isn't anything wrong with it morally even though I wouldn't be as happy about the heme iron and other stuff in it I'd prefer not to have in my body. But morally, it would be fine.
Just like how people are working on making cow milk without needing a cow. They make it in these big vats. Nothing wrong with it morally but I wouldn't drink it.

I actually really liked this man and the conversation in general. He is thinking aloud, and examining the (lack of) arguments, trying to justify his position. Realizing your position is not based on solid philosophical argumentation and factual grounds is (or at least can be) key to adjust your position altogether. This is cognitive dissonance in real time. I liked it, because this conversation reflects my own paradigm shift concerning animal sentience/rights.
I long for the day that necessary conversations like this are being broadcasted by large media outlets on (inter)national TV and internet.

14:54 That response right there, is PURE APATHY. And you can tell quite easily that it contradicts the other stand point of him not wanting harm or torture to come to the other animals before they're killed. But that wouldn't be some kind of fantasy World, kind of like Harry Potter's great hall feasts where a magician claps their hands and body parts of chopped up animals appear on the tables. That's NOT how that animal farming system works. There is ALWAYS immense cruelty and torture going on. It's part and parcel of that industry. And the main problem is, that apathy is so ingrained into society and people, even the people who are the most decent and humble, who wouldn't kill another animal themselves, if it wasn't to do with survival. Getting through all those lies is sometimes like chipping away at ice using an ice cream cone 🥴
    Brilliant discussion once again.

@@mikethats4thebirds600 animals and humans are different mate. not everyone is going to be happy. human civilisation is more important than animal civilisation. who cares if one cow dies. if i eat meat and gain benefits from it such as iron, zinc and B vitamins which is worth it for killing that one cow.
