That’s not really their argument; if plants have feelings then vegans are hypocrites. Never mind that mammals are infinitely closer in their experience to that of humans, and can feel orders of magnitude more pain compared to plants, no matter how you look at it. As long as vegans are wrong, meat eaters are morally justified to do whatever the hell they want in their own eyes.
I think we should give the guy some credit. Most of the times, people with a hundred anti-vegan arguments do not listen and agree with Ed as this guy did. I was expecting him to keep going with his arguments and finish the debate thinking he was right all along. Yet, he ended agreeing with Ed which was quite refreshing. Hope he is able to take the next step and go vegan!! Masterclass as usual from Ed.
I agree, he actually took time to debate. I'm hoping he'll think more about it after the conversation and some who think he's right will see his reasons to eat animals aren't really all that logical. 🤔
I think he deserves a lot of credit for the way that he assimilated the arguments and reached a conclusion. I doubt that he possesses the moral fortitude at this time of his life to actually be vegan as this means going against his family and peer group who presumably all eat animals and always will. But he has the potential because, like me, he is so appalled at the way animals are treated by the billion and you simply cannot buy any animal products in the grocery stores without knowing that you are funding and tacitly supporting that treatment. Giving up animal products is actually surprisingly easy when you remind yourself why you are doing it. The only problem to overcome is those social occasions and our meat eating culture. But it is slowly becoming easier to be vegan even in a backwards conservative (with a small c) State in Australia where I live.
@@robsengahay5614 I agree, he deserves a lot of credit for that, and I'd go even further; I think you underestimate his moral fortitude. I think he seems very capable of going vegan despite what his social group thinks or does. Not saying it'll be easy, but he seems to already fully see the moral inconsistencies of eating animals. That's the hardest part, to not be vegan once you've made the connections.

Also, our politicians are bought and paid for and would never ban it anyway.

Ed cooly and calmly debunks said argument Repeat until end of interview. Ed kindly says goodbye to person who spent the entire interview making up ludicrous and untenable arguments against veganism
Ed tried to summarize the Jeff's argument into "we can base our morality on the actions of wild animals" which was a strawman of his argument. What Jeff said was that there was nothing inherently immoral about eating meat given the fact that many creatures prey on others for sustenance and that humans once did as well. It seems like a summary of Ed interviewing people should be: 1. Person makes an unsophisticated argument. 2. Ed strawman's their argument and then attacks it. 3. Person doesn't defend their position because Ed moves on to another argument.
No matter how many of these conversations we watch, non-vegan arguments all fit the same criteria. They are unoriginal, been debunked a million times, and make you sound like a psychopath when you use the logic on humans. Stop trying to find a reason to keep doing the wrong thing. There is no excuse for unnecessarily harming animals.
It's just tiring... "But I bet you haven't thought about this argument, vegans!" Yes, yes we have, we've encountered that a lot. People somehow don't seem to realise that most vegans were not raised that way nor enthusiastically jumped into it but had to be convinced ourselves.
Ed, I honestly think you are one of the best debaters on youtube: I feel like your audience would greatly benefit from a YT video on how to approach these conversations. Too often, people lose arguments / support because of their approach to conversations rather than their actual points. Cheers

It’s the non-judgmental and open discussion that allows for critical observation of the choices we make in food, like consuming meat, that makes it so easy to begin eating plant-based foods. No putting down or insults to anyone’s character or intelligence, but an exploration of old beliefs and biases. It’s cool how Ed does that.
Let's remember that the hook for this kid was the images he had seen of factory farms. If people just open their eyes and look, they can make a start; they just have to realize there is no meat, dairy, egg, or fish consumption without cruelty and suffering-- there is no kind way of engaging in animal agriculture, and there is no humane way to kill someone. When they see a factory farm, they are looking at their consumer dollars at work.
@vkb6352 just know you come across and rude and uncaring for life. Like a psychopath. Not saying you are one and maybe you didn't meant to come across that way. Just thought you should know.
I completely agree that factory farming is awful. I was vegan for almost 7 years. Could never have dreamed to eat animals again. But then my health took a turn and found out that there are so many former vegans who have had their health deteriorate but feel better after eating an animal based diet again. Now I eat pasture raised as much as I can. I do think there is a moral justification for eating animals if you need to. I think Ed’s argument (and something that I agreed with for so long) is that we only do it for taste and that’s not always the case.

I wish more people would leave replies like this instead of bashing the intervewee. I'm sure if this guy is even remotely thinking about veganism, he's found this comment section. 3. Person uses some dumb argument
4. Ed cooly and calmly debunks said argument
Repeat until end of interview.
Ed kindly says goodbye to person who spent the entire interview making up ludicrous and untenable arguments against veganism
So true, as soon as I realised every argument i had to eat animals fell apart with his logic, I couldn't justify it anymore
Ed tried to summarize the Jeff's argument into "we can base our morality on the actions of wild animals" which was a strawman of his argument. What Jeff said was that there was nothing inherently immoral about eating meat given the fact that many creatures prey on others for sustenance and that humans once did as well.
It seems like a summary of Ed interviewing people should be:
1. Person makes an unsophisticated argument.
2. Ed strawman's their argument and then attacks it.
3. Person doesn't defend their position because Ed moves on to another argument.

it's pathetic how people will agree that animals shouldn't be killed but don't care enough to actually change their diet and make an impact
Ahhh yes the appeal to nature fallacy to begin with. This is going to be a good one 😁
He kept using it over and over again, but I think he understood why it was illogical at the end
All worth it for the taste

Seeing such habitual nastiness outa you in your Comments, how (well, frankly, 'sad'), that it must be, to be in the mental 'place' you are, and in the pain that repeatedly overflows from you..
I and others hate the fact that that is happening with you..
Many of us, reading your repeatedly-nasty comments, hope for your evolution to a place of mental healing and happiness.
-As is true for all of us, the personal responsibility for proactively seeking and embracing such, rests upon your OWN shoulders, and no one else's.
Mere 'projection' never heals or banishes inner pain. Just needlessly prolongs it.
What we find value in, we 'keep', painful or not. Until we no longer find value in it.
Best of luck to you.
From all the people interviewed about these issues, this guy is clearly the most honest ive seen.
This was such a good conversation.
YOU DID IT ED, YOU CHANGED HIM BY PLANTING A SEED. LETS GOOOO
Planting a seed 😂😂😂😂 far out
@@rondarkman. bro seemed pretty receptive by the end of it! I’m not gonna cap!
@ZENJUTSUU
I'd be willing to bet the night he gets home he will have consumed animal products
@@rondarkman. i feel like you’re misunderstanding what I mean by planting a seed. but it’s cool haha. I don’t expect people to transition from such a big chnge overnight. that’s for sure
Interesting that Ed didn't choose to state that plants aren't sentient. I've been down that rabbit hole too many times and you'll find plenty of dipshits who will argue plant sentience, so it's interesting to see Ed updated his kung fu to say plants are just less capable of suffering. I'll follow suit.
I wonder how many of these interviews per day you can make. I admire your patience, especially because, if anyone would watch 3 of your videos, all the questions will be answered. It's the same topic over and over again.
Have you ever heard an argument or a question that actually surprised you?
Yes I think he was caught off guard by “red meat gives you bloodlust and humans need bloodlust to pass their engineering classes and to stop a communist invasion”
I love you, Ed! Thank you for the work you do!!!
Fantastic interview Ed 🎉
It really isn't difficult being vegan in cities or towns around the world. However, it is a little difficult once we get into the countryside of some countries, such as Vietnam where there are no vegan restaurants unless I travel 45 minutes one way and that kind of defeats the purpose. So, I have found that I needed to learn to cook things like tofu and learn how to roast peanuts and grow my own vegetables. Yes, it takes a bit of effort, but in the end it's all worth it.
It really isn't hard if you at the very least have a middle-class income and you aren't allergic to most nuts, a variety of plants, and soy like some of us are.
I think. If more vegan activists were like this guy and didn't act like pompous superior extremists, more people would be open to listening to them.
I love how Ed lets them say their lazy shit, and then smashes them with common sense.
