      Man your my savior lol. I have a 91 convertible looks just like the one in your video. I'm excited for this video and want to see how it's done. Not to get too personal but last month I had a heart attack and I want to do something to my car now that I have a second chance. Thanks for all you do to show us how to work on these vehicles.

      That’s a good one for sure. I saw an old gt vert in the bone yard last year. Wonder if it’s still there! If you can get the roofs I will drive up and grab one from you! Close to my moms and have a nice weekend out of it!

    Hey Dan.
    I used to save salvage title cars for a living in Michigan. What you’re doing is exactly what I used to do. You’re plasma cutter is the best spot weld remover tool in the world. Just blow them out. It works awesome and fast as hell. Cut it large and plasma the spot welds and use a cutoff wheel to trim your outer sheet metal. Lap it with screws and go back and use a cutoff to butt weld as you go. It’s fast and dead on. Love this project!

    I can't wait to see this happen! Think it's awesome! Until aftermarket bodies come around this is the kind of stuff that needs to happen more.
    Just like all the foxes that have gone to the scrap yard for just tower issues.
    Need to get creative and dirty to start saving the ones that can.👍

      Yep, now you will also need to look at the body code(40 is a coupe-44 and 45 are LX and GT conv-41 is LX hatch-42 is GT and Cobra)) in the vin as well as the engine code(E for 8 cyl-D for 93 Cobra-M or A is 4 cyl) to verify that you are getting a legit 5.0 coupe.

    During the fox mustang run all convertibles started life as a coup. Ford shiped so many coups and hatchbacks to a separate facility to have them chopped into convertibles and t-tops and sunroof cars. on all convertible titles it says coup.

    Will be interesting to watch. I’ll keep my Vert though. I love my Vert. Top down, 5sp doesn’t get much better as a street driven car. One day the Verts will be worth the most money. Any and every classic car is worth more if the top goes down. The Fox will be no different

    Pick up a 3/8” air belt sander. They work awesome for removing spot welds. You’ll basically make a divot on the spot and separate from lower panel

    I personally would tell you as a Fox body friend to just bite the bullet and strip the vert instead and keep it a true coupe yes it would be far much more work taking salvageable parts from the vert and put it in the coupe but like you said they are becoming far more favorable and even harder to find these days. So bite the bullet and we will be following you and supporting you on your journey. Coupe lives matter!!

    I've seen people build fastbacks out of notchback classic mustangs. Same idea in reverse here....I'm keeping my coupe forever, for sure.

    Just subbed man, the word notch back kills me everytime i hear it lol. Back in 98 i had a 89 notch with a 306 and a tremec 3650 car ran best of 11.90 which for its time was a really fast daily driven street car. I sold it and man i have forever regretted doing so love what youre doin brother.

    I just saved an 86 gt . It was smashed down the side. Bought it for parts. Saw how clean the floor was . Had a rusted out wrecked 90 gt . Put right quarter on the 86 and the roof skin .turned out great so far lol. We have to save as many as we can. Keep them all Ford !

    Crazy, coupe's are not rare here in NY
    , NJ and Connecticut at all. Shop around, buy a coupe, even a 4 banger coupe and save a ton of time.

    “Foxbody convertibles started their lives out as notches” I’ve heard that multiple times yet people always disregard the verts as non desirable. Thats why I got my 89 GT VERT for a deal

      Yup. It's been proven time and again that EVERY convertible version of a muscle car/pony car, with very few exceptions, ( COPO, special versions) is worth MORE than their hardtop counterparts. Eventually convertibles win out value wise. Happens virtually every time.

      @@patsfan8057 be interesting to see what the values are in another 30 years, I think people thinking the coupe is a better race car is what made the price go up so much. I like the look of the coupe better. But wish I had the room of my hatchback again. Once you put a roll bar in a coupe it useless. I am on my first and last coupe.

    This will be interesting to watch. I had an 89 vert that I had this same vision with but didnt have the resources to do it. Kinda like a dream build, only I had the thought of keeping the convertible doors, windows, rear quarter windows, and cutting the B pillar and making a hardtop coupe.

      @@Neomustangs That's exactly right. Nobody has covered this in a step by step, and if you ask on forums or look where somebody else has asked you get either that information or replies from people who say it can't be done.
      I'm telling a lot of people who want to do this conversion about your channel. Convertibles are so cheap and plentiful whereas coupes command a premium.

    Love notchbacks, but a dumb move. You'd have been better off doing up the convertible. Worth more in the long run. There's a reason they say " When the top goes down the price goes up". Only exceptions are one offs, COPO, etc.

    I would cut the floor out save the tubs quarters roof and cut it at the rocker mid door the do the very the opposite and lap everything on at once then weld the rear body wheel runs and rear floor ext that way your not cutting through the panels just my thought awesome video though

    It sucks that you have to scrap a car to make another one but definitely a plus when the car is that far gone.
    I still think a 25.5 or 26.3 car was the better way to go .

    Hope this works will, around here there is always more vrerts for sale, if there are 8 fox's on the local classifieds 4-5 will be convertibles, 2 hatch's , and 1-2 four banger coupes, the verts are usually cheaper and tops are typically in rough shape, I rode in a vert way back in the late 80's and hated how it felt (like a marshmallow) but if they can be made into a notch that would be awesome!

      Ya wade at this age.. those fkin tops are ruined. I have an array of coupes here that are NOT in healthy shape at all so why not make those verts that are nice (body wise) a coupe! speically the 4cyl ones.. not the GT's

      Ya i do have a TTOP car in the back. Its an 88 tho so those arent very common at all. I also have an FHP SSP both are rotted HOWEVER i refuse to cut them up .. they'll be worth some resto someday if not with me someone else.

    The pillars are different. So don’t cut em so high u need the whole pillar for the coupe door to fit , luckily I figured that so I kept all mines and didn’t cut as high as u did in the video , otherwise the coupe door won’t fit.

    I say you should let both of those 4 banger economy cars go to the crusher. Not sure why people with notch backs act like they have a Ferrari. That 1979 coupe was very very very close in looks to the 1978 coupe. The 1979 coupe was made with a 99 horse power v8 option just to have a cheap version to sell to the cop shop. The body sucks, and was no muscle car...just another economy car like the mustang II. Also if someone gets into a crash in that car they will probably get killed. No need for that.

      Right. I like verts but not near as much as coupes. Specially a 4cyl vert. Now... LX 4cyl vert transformed ot a bad ass 5.0 coupe hardtop... bottom to the top!

    the rag top is a real pain in the ass.i had one ..even if you did pull off somewhat restoring it it will still leak for ever and act up all the time and suck..the notch (trunk back) top to a good standing vert is a great idea i think....

    This was done way back...by the famous Stormin Norman convertible...but there are still clean Coupes around, look and get you a four banger would be much easier to go that route?

      This is a 4cyl coupe anyways so thats why im not super stresin about it. Gonna try to find an LX vert 4cyl. Probably the LEAST desirable fox of them all.. make it a bad boy 5.0 coupe hardtop!

    Notchback styling is rental car ugly until big fat tires are installed. K-car is the same body style.

    Didnt Ford send coupe body’s to an aftermarket facility (ASC) to create the convertibles?

      I’m pretty sure that all fox body convertibles started out as coupes

    Please do not cut up a legit GT or 5.0 LX hatch, those cars are going up in value big time. As for convertibles go ahead and convert(no pun intended) as many as you can into coupes, convertible foxes will always be the least desirable of the bunch and they were built kinda crappy to start with. Convertibles started life as coupes built without tops and then sent to ASC for final assembly so it really is like putting it back as nature intended.

      I get it. However i have multiple GT shells that have been sitting a long time. Mines well do something with them now. I have other coupe roofs.

      No the coupes are. They made a lot of coupes 88-89 over vert.. but...they werent popular so the vert naturally 90-93 and even in 87 i think were higher numbers.

    I wanna see all about roof change...mine has a spot that needs repair...and I have the darn leaky ass sunroof I could live without...so I would rather just change out the roof...it would probably end up costing me about the same either way.

    Damn i need a nice cowl but probably get one in nc were i live but would love to get all three pieces if you lived in NC im your paint guy lol I've got a straight 88 other than needs roof skin and hood flow up fucked cowl up but never been turned in on insurance want ing to make cobra clone back halfed tub. Tooblur frontend car out of it but might just flip it and sell cause always wanted 86 coupe never had coupe always hatch when i was teenager coupes were mostly grampa's mustang
