Due to my frustration and the prices people are asking for junk Fox body cars and I finally get one in my sights worth buying and putting my money 💰 into, I got lucky enough to find a kind of similar platform to experiment with until then. I bought a 1988 Mercury Cougar XR 7 with 50K on the clock and completely rust free, yes I said completely RUST FREE, for 700$ with the 302 in it.
Nice find
$700! Some people have all the luck. Good luck on your build.
It's not just fox body cars that people are over pricing. People think their junk is made of gold.
Yes,there are several foxbody platforms! I have a Fairmont wagon! 4 cylinder, 4 speed, manual steering, manual brakes! Rear wheel overhang! 😂😂
@@michaelmartin5869damn winning
That axle for sure is robbing some power. Once you get everything correctly set up for N/A it will make over 400 rwhp, pretty confident on this.
The amount of NA POWA out of that 387!! and Its gonna make even more with the power pipe and long tubes. Just picked up a 351 myself from the Youngstown u pull it and I think I now know what Im gonna do with it 😎
I have a 95 351W junkyard motor that I plan I building one day, so this kind of content is great to see..
you can also check out Richard Holdener's channel, he has dyno proven recipes for the 351W.
Awesome video can't wait to see more
Great video. Awesome seeing the troubleshooting dyno vids.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good Video Man!!!
Those Changes Should Put You Over The 400 Mark Easy!!!
Always welcome and thank you for sharing the knowledge and details on your channel that would cost the average Joe 😕 money 💰 and grief 😔 trying to figure out what to get and what to use to get better results. Dan I hope you are able to get 425 and a great runner now that you are getting the bugs worked out.
I remember reading about big block cars back in the 60s that were sold with headers in the trunk. And how with those and a bigger carb, they made 40-50 more horse. I don't think 30 or even 40 is out of the question. Those heads are small for a motor that size..but a motor that size makes those heads move a ton more air as well. The cam and your lack of pvc is the limiting factor now imo
PVC isn’t an issue when you have valve cover breathers. PCV with breathers is a vaccum leak
Plenty of PCV. Maybe not recirculating for emissions, but fine.
I love this N/A build series
Those headers, intake tube and throttle body will get you there!
Dude those numbers with all those issues is awesome!!! I say 415HP and 420TQ after the long tubes and intake tube. 🇺🇸💪🏼 Awesome video as always brother!
Thx!
With the AFM pipe and larger headers.....400 rwhp is very doable! My old 331 NA made 379 rwhp with AFM pipe and 1.75" mac longtubes...AFR185's, 234/244 cam, EFI spyder, 30 lb injectors
Dan, I have total faith that you will wake this monster up! I'm rooting for you!!!
I watched this build from the start . I expected more . I'll stick with Clevlands
@@user-ls2yn9lx8r my 387 makes 420....some mistakes here.
PVC is circulating from clean side to dirty pressure to vacuum
Damn, intercooler was a 60 horse choke!
I guessed pretty close in your test drive video... speculating 375Hp/395Tq.
With mods coming, and straighter rear axle, I'm guessing it's going to pick up about 30 points minimum at the wheels, so my new guess... 400Hp/440Tq.
Can't wait to see next Dyno pulls!
On your FB post I said 25hp from long tubes alone.
With the other mods I think you’ll be up 60hp total over your previous number.
I understand the logistics make it tough. But I really wanted to see how much power the bent axle was costing.
LMAO, It' was breathing thru an innercooler😂🤣😂🤣😂🙃😉
I remember watching Brent from PFI speed tune a car with an intercooler on it and it was na. Killed the power.
370 with shorties is respectable.
the longtubes are going to add crazy mid range and torque everywhere.
snagged one of those cranks from Amazon too.
Yes it should. I probably should have installed bigger headers and intake pipe to begin with. We will see!
definitely looking forward to it.
I have faith in you achieving 400
I am a big fan of your cars & projects. I have a 351 stroked Windsor(410)with TFS R heads & stage 5 cam.10.8 compression DSS pistons all control by a Pro M COP EFI system.Hope to make 600 FWHP NA?From there I have a 200 HP NOS KIT.Will soon be a tt 66mm turbo build at the same 410 CID.Keep up the very good work.
Go baby go button a must
I know everybody's making 1000hp nowadays, but considering a stock 5.0 was pretty fast and only had less than 200hp to the wheels this car at a little over double that is going to be a fun street car
Hell ya
Everybody isn't making 1000 just having the internet with everyone's builds at our fingertips makes it seem that way. People think because they see alot of 1000 hp rides on RUclips there are alot in real life the number of 1000 hp street cars running around isn't very high in the grand scheme of things. I get what you were getting at though.
@@midnight347u need to go to the track buddy, a new grocery getter runs 11's
@alltherpm I've been to the track plenty "buddy" and no average grocery getters don't run 11s. People like you are comical as hell. I firmly stand by my original statement. "Everybody" doesn't have 1000 hp. You can try to keep up with the internet Jones' all you want but I'm smart enough to understand what is represented on there isn't a good representation of what EVERYONE has despite what you think. In the real world lots of people have builds like this.
It easy to do! Take the 351w crank and machine it to 3.75 stroke and widen the journals to the small block Chevy rod and use the 2.0 , 5.7 rod and make a 383 stroker, it will take very little balancing.
I'd like to do a 351w swap into one of my foxbodies. The major thing hold me back is prices but this build makes it look very affordable, not to mention I have a good handful of compatible parts and 351w parts.🎉
That’s a win brother. B cam isn’t the best cam for that engine IMO, but it still made solid power with it…. 👍
Yeah I agree and we aint done with it just yet...
and the bread-box intakes weren't great on NA engines but boost doesn't care about intake runner length--the lack of restriction on a bread box works for boost.
@@alertgasperboost still cares about runner length. It shapes the curve and decides where it peaks this is true weather it's boosted or not.
@@midnight347 true, boost will create a 100% VE scenario that runner diameter and length try to generate with atmospheric pressure, but length and diameter will determine where in the RPM range magic will happen. On the bread box intakes, boost is just "filling in" the the lazy air path
Great video
Thanks!
It’s a beast🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼! 405 hp
This build is identical to mine its a 393w around 12.1 and it made 408 wheel hp with bigger headers n intake i was told it would do 450 wheel nice build
Thx!
Mikeymac 302 sbe made 400 rwp with heads and cam, also a 351 sbe with afr 185 heads and cam made 430 wrhp
@alltherpm a stock bottom end 302 doing 400 wheel is gonna have a totally different curve and alot less tq vs a stroked 351 like that. Peak numbers tell a small part of the overall story.
You should get good power gains. I made 499 hp and 499 torque with 1-3/4 long tubes and AFM power pipe on bad plugs with bad gap settings with a little 302 blower motor
Some Clevors are making 550wheel through a big stalled th400 and 600wheel through a stick, and its a street car. Clevor CHI heads are stupid money though..
I’m gonna make this out of my 94 5.0 hopefully the Hypereutectic stock 5.0 pistons will last !
I had so many fox bodies in the late 2000s wish I still had one. I put a 351w in one if I was to do it again I’d do a Cleveland
The Clevelands starve for oil at high RPM.
Do this. Freshen up the axle and WPC Treat the ring and pinion plus the bearing kit. Add some Lubrication Engineers synthetic lube. It'll free up some hp.
My 68 mustang fuel injected 438windsor street car made 505wheel through a big stalled th400 410 gears. Car weighs 3k lbs..12:1 compression on e85 and solid roller street cam. Holley Terminator efi. Novi2k in future...lol
The big test is how much it makes at the wheel through a big stalled th400, not a stick. If you can make 500wheel through a big stalled th400 with 410 gears then you are making some good power all motor. Should run low 10's high 9's in a 3k lb car at 500wheel through a big stalled th400.
My guess would be 405 RWHP, 455 torque, with those changes, even with bent axial, she is making some steam
N/A.
Good 👍 video 🎥 i wonder how far a good N/A budget can go?🤔
I'm curious if an aftermarket ecm would make better power over the stock with the quarterhorse.
Great video bud! The old girl did pretty good all things considered 💪
Thx man!
@neomustangs why not just run no pipe off the throttle body for the dyno run? Is there a mass air meter?
I always thought 302 289 260 pistons were the same & 351w had a different wrist pin to top dead center...
Cam needs to be a Comp cams XR292R street solid roller.
I am in the same boat with prices being out of hand so I’m looking at ford ranger instead . Just trying to figure out what years would be best for a 351 w swap and then turbo later on
To be honest for that setup it’s not bad at all
After the changes I'm going to say 420 430 maybe to the wheel
I hope that’s great numbers
What's going on sir watch all your videos could you tell me where you bought your quarter horse from for your tuning thank you keep up the good work
I own a handful of them i didnt buy it anywhere. I had them already.
Run E85 and get a proper tune , you'll cover 60hp no problem.
It’s got a good tune …. And it’s on E85. The Dyno needs maintenance is what we found out
Sounds much better with Longtubes.
Sucks that Moates decided to close up shop without passing the torch. Still my favorite hardware when using a factory eec
I have my 351W on the engine stand out of my 1989 E350 Econoline Van and I took out the C6 and the Dana 60 rear Differential that was underneath of it along with the electrical goodies, Duraspark box wiring harness and anything else I 🤔💬 thought I or someone else else might be able to use for something. Now I will have to get to slowly taking it apart and checking everything out to see what I have only bummer is that it is a Jasper tagged rebuild and it runs good, 70 psi oil 🛢️🪔 pressure at fire 🔥 up cold when it was in the van and I I only quit driving it due to not wanting to do the body work again and I'm the dead of last summer when it was over 90°F it would run fine but the oil pressure would drop to right around 20 psi at idol and at 195° it would go down the freeway at 35-40 psi and then drop off to nearly 20 again. Figured it was time for retirement and the first time I get to work on a 351 for myself and my dream project.
Not sure your plans, but it should make best power with collector extensions. Usually 18" are a safe bet. Engine Masters proved this out with pretty surprising gains.
Take it easy on your parking pin loading the trailer. Nuetral and someone on the service brakes is best practice, but i know that's not always practical. Just fyi, love the content. When is the stroked BBF going in?
I would deff invest in some wheel chocks
No joke dude - motor is just a big air pump basically so lower restriction on inlet and outlet both allow the air pump to work more. Those intercoolers are no bueno on inlet without compressed air feeding them. Take it from someone who designs this stuff for a living. I guessing 420-440 rwhp with power pipe and long tubes.
Hell ya man. Ya I had thought the cooler wouldn’t matter. Boy was I wrong
What are the heads on this build? Never mind, I just found one of your older videos that you mention it has 170 Trick Flow heads.
Ported 170s.
Forgot to ask what you doing about rear of the exhaust for keeping a ypipe setup
We will discuss that another day. Def not keeping y pipe. I needed to V band it anyways near mufflers so this gives me reason to build a 3” x pipe
I did miss what cam is in there? I looked back and didn’t see a cam spec. Figure with the stock style 302 pistons it’s not aggressive?
Anderson B31 I mentioned it in the video
You shouldn't need to have a dyno to tell you an intercooler in an na application is a no go
lol
Bet that axle killed 20 hp. I would’ve been cool to see the difference with just the axle. Bet it’s over 4 now! I bet a bigger cam would benefit as well with the torque verses hp numbers right now.
Have you ever run Trick Flow High Ports?
No
Summit house brand axels are worth every penny. A set of 4.10s helps
So, my 281ci 2v made 309rwhp 321rwtrq n/a, is that good considering this 387ci stroker made 375rwhp?? i hope you get much more hp but i think longtubes will get you 10-15, maybe 20 max rwhp more.. I'd put electric cutouts, they definitely free up extra hp..
Its a 400 wheel as it sits. With an exhaust and better scavenging its probably more. Not all dynos read the same and mine is def one that will hurt peoples feelings...
@@Neomustangs Hey, thank you for taking the time to reply to me.. I knew you would.. ;) Yeah, it's a nice build.. N it's kool how Ford is always extracting good power from lil engine setups..

Mikeymac sbe 302 made 400 rwp this thing seems to b a bust, ive seen sbe351 with afr 185 make 430 to wheels
What heads are on this build?
Tfs
@@Neomustangs what size?
Do you prefer those to AFR?
I told you the intercooler was going to kill hp as well as those tiny headers. I was starting to think you were purposely making sbf’s look bad so the LS guys can make fun of us lol.
Never was intention of trying to make power N/a but I do like the concept. May keep it at 400
Despite those issues and a tiny b cam it's almost 400 to the wheels from a budget 387 that really isn't that bad honestly. It's all in the combo. A max effort na high compression setup could make alot more it's all in the combo with any engine especially when na this is true with anything ls or otherwise. Ls engines are alot newer and have better stock heads. That is why they can make pretty good power with just a cam because they have decent cubes about as much as this 387 in an ls3 and it has far better stock heads than a 351 did.
@@midnight347you’re preaching the the choir but we’re trying to keep fords in fords here not scare them away with weak numbers.
Cam is a fairly healthy Anderson B41 not a FMS b303. Shorty headers have proven to be worthless on many different combos so unless you have them collecting dust on a shelf they don’t belong anywhere near a healthy motor unless a turbo is hanging off them. Pulling through an intercooler is a huge red flag as you see a boost drop even through an efficient one so that’s obviously a HP killer.
Also I made 351whp in my f150 through an e4od with a stock stroke 351w and small 2.5 exhaust with cats (emissions legal daily driver) so I know this 387 has to make at least 400 set up correctly.
So there are benefits to having longtube headers but an H pipe isn't the way to go smoother operation comes from an X pipe where your exhaust gases don't need to know how to make 2 90° turns and it balances exhaust pressures actually. Now rear mounted turbos coming off of exhaust pipes with the X pipe benefit is the unknown.
Hint hint hint
410/425
Did anything need to be machined or do you literally buy the crank, rods and pistons and just put them together
Yes there’s a whole build playlist on it
I think you will hit 409rwhp
Put the turbo kit on it, and turn it up a little!!!
Maybe one day. Really don’t need 4 turbo cars on the channel lol
Probably won't like all that compression
@@ricksmith4399 , plenty of good fuel, and pull timing at peak torque,, a lot of blow-thur cars and trucks are running up to13:1 compression but they are using methanol

Ford guy keep saying we not looking to make big power well okay you have the right platform 😂😂😂😂 CHEVY GANG!!!💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Right around same power a budget 383 chevy makes.
Imagine that. Turns out engines with similar cubes and compression make similar power assuming similar setups.
This car is down a good bit from what it can make for various reasons
But it a Ford .anybody can make a Chevy go fast
Are you going to keep it NA
