In this video, you are standing at the resting place of Thomas Henry Ismay who eventually founded the White Star Line shipping company whoamongst other great ships had commissioned the building of the TITANIC!! Margaret Ismay was the wife of James Ismay, the then Chairman and managing director of the White Star Line. James Ismay was on the maiden voyage of the Titanic but survived the sinking by sneaking onto one of the few lifeboats, which were being reserved for the women and children, on the night of the tragedy. He was branded a pariah by the public for not going down with the ship. James Ismay was never forgiven by the public, although he gave a lot of his wealth away to charity. James Ismay died ten years later and was buried somewhere in London. Thank you for finding this place as it has inspired me to read up on the history of the Ismay family.
It's been far too long since i've been down to Thurstaston, think the parking charges put me off somewhat but not a great excuse still. Some proper good brain medicine that place. So many beautiful places on the wirral

Not fit enough to ride back up them mind. The BBQ area on the Wirral way is a really nice chilled place in the summer, as long as people take their waste away.
