30+ years ago with 20 mins to kill before my train was due I nipped into the Bedford for a quick one. The friendly, pretty well-oiled, chap at the next table, engaged me in a 'conversation' I'll never forget. The gist was that he still lived with and was devoted to his elderly and frail mother and, as he'd promised he'd never put her in a home, he did everything for her including washing and toiletting: "I'm alright wiping her arse but I have to get the district nurse in to wash her fanny." Have you ever been at such a total loss for words? Only in Birkenhead in my experience.
Great vid Liam as always mate, luckily am always having a beer whilst watching otherwise I would be gagging for 1 after watching you knocking them back ha,keep em coming mate🍺🍺🍺
Ahhh a trip down memory lane. The imp was my first ever pub as a teenager, then to meeting my husband who’s from Rockferry, the Bedford “ Lukes” was a good one in its day also the Rockville. Apart from the lord Napier, I’ve been in all those pubs, not all in one night though lol and amazed you got through the night unscathed. Thanks for the memories, although the atmosphere in the day was definitely better than today. Great video cheers 🍻🥂 🙌🙌🙌
Mate I know it might sound a bit mad but it's so nice to see my UK local Lukes and my hometown Rock Ferry when I'm so far from home. As always keep it up Liam.
The Rockville has changed a lot. Used to be a right dive. I grew up on the road next to Byrne Ave and all, and still stay there when I'm back in The UK. I'll give you a shout next time I'm back and well grab a pint mate!
The house opposite Byrne Avenue Baths is the location of the famous photo of John Lennon with his mother. Also, it is where he was going to stay when he planned to visit Liverpool in 1981.
So that's what my Dad used to drink before he came home. When I was a child, of course. That's a lot of booze. My God. I don't drink. I couldn't get through even one of those tall glasses. He used to be blotto. I would stand at his side looking at him. He was unconscious with his eyes open. He could really put it away. He was from Yorkshire. He must have drunk twice that. Every weekend after work in Liverpool. And then on the boat and bus to get home. And my Mum didn't drink either. That's the first time I've actually seen it, glass after glass. It will age you, eventually. I was watching your video because I have a friend in Birkenhead. I don't think he drinks. It was really interesting. Going into a world I've never seen. And I like hearing the accents. My mother married my Dad because she liked his strange accent plus he was the most handsome man she'd ever seen in her life.

I wanted to see if they would run 🏃♀️ they must have walked pretty fast because I'm not slow and they was right behind me when I was buying the ticket and they came from the furthest carriage.
As soon as I put this video on, without knowing I knew you were at the port, I recognised Joseph groome towers behind you. Lived in percival Rd. How did the diet get on? I have to literally have to starve myself to lose 4lb a week. And I do about 50 miles walking a week.
Hiya Lesley the diet fell apart with my covid jab, still committed to getting in shape. Awesome 50 miles that's good going, I'm probably closer to 30 plus work
I don't drink all that often I think these caught up with me because I only ate a breakfast wrap. This Friday I drank 10 drinks in total I'd say normally it would be 5 for a video. If I'm drinking socially it would be probably a few more than ten over a longer period.
