So yeah, there are a few reasons why HOI4 is banned in China. They are very strict in how you can depict the Chinese Civil War and Japan's Invasion. The way they insist on is actually more accurate, but it is silly that they ban the game for not being precise. Their main points of contention are the warlords as independent nations, when in reality, most were nominally under the Kuomintang, Taiwan as starting the game under Japan (it was highly contested before the war broke out proper, but the KMT had the biggest practical foothold due to proximity), and Tibet and Sinkiang as independent nations (Tibet's situation at the time was... very strange, legally, technically, they should have been a protectorate of the ROC, but they were de facto independent, I personally think Independence is the most accurate, and Sinkiang is even weirder; arguably it should be a puppet of the Soviets with an event to break away)
Am I missing something here? I thought Taiwan was a colony of Japan from 1895 to 1945. There were sentiments of equality (people pushing for Taiwanese to be considered equal to Japanese) and independence throughout the occupation, but I don't remember the KMT having a practical foothold in Taiwan and contesting the Japanese rule.

With British Malaya not joining the war, it's a weird little oversight with the Australia assuming colonial holdings event where they take British Malaya as a puppet. Because Malaysia is a puppet, they can only be called in by their overlord. But since their overlord (Australia) is also a puppet, they can't call anyone into wars.
So Australia doesn't get the option to call in Malaysia because they're a puppet, but Malaysia can't be called in by anyone else because they're Australia's puppet. At least I think that's the way it works, it's happened to me a few times.

A lot of the TFV puppet mechanic based focuses are garbage and shit. India loses a lot of shit if they break free too early, or too late. TFV needs a rework.

Personally I thought sun tzu reborn was going to be awful, it was still bad but I personally think the by merit alone achievement is WAY worse, I didn’t touch the game for a long time because of that achievement
I remember retrying the Hasburg one for Austria Hungary at least 20 times before quitting. then Italy Pope into Roman Empire took me more than 15 tries, i ended up with almost a fully optimized strategy. i hated it.

There are quite a few Chinese youtubers playing hoi4, and funny enough, their videos will usually avoid showing the CCP flag and Japanese flag (But not the German Flag) to get away from the censorship of their government.
Why do the chinese censor the CCP flag? I understand the japanese flag and the blue sun flag, but why the CCP?

Similar to how Khmer Rouge killed off people with glasses, because they thought it was a sign of intelligence.

Hoi 4 isn't banned in China at all, another hoi was. I asked the devs that when they made a Chinese localisation additions in a update. Another hoi was banned apparently but not hoi 4 at all
well you cant buy it here in china its not for sale here in china on steam or anything you need to use a VPN to buy it or get updates for it. so not sure what you mean by its not banned when your not allowed to buy it here.

I got a bit grumpy to be fair that they would bother to make a localisation for no reason: the reply is from pdxkatten. Egg on face moment for me but you can go and check it out on the steam patch updates I think it was from an open beta but I replied to it the day of the news release if you want to look it up. apparently it's legal there don't know how it works but when I googled at after that I couldn't find reference to it being illegal online

I personally don't understand why depicting the warlords is considered bad in the PRC. I think it would be quite endearing if you spun in right. I think in real history the warlords had a problem with mass desertions to the communist side. Something Chen Kai Shek had a problem with too.
You could spin it as communism being the force that united the masses of China and crippled the selfish warlords.
If you overstretch an ordinary general a little bit by giving him 27 divisions instead of 24, or overstretch skilled staffer general a little bit by giving him 33 divisions instead of 30, your general can advance about 10% faster, since you have about 10% more divisions earning him points toward his next promotion.
If with a field marshal you can still achieve around a 6 to 1 or better K/D ratio with 6 slightly overpacked generals instead of 5 slightly overpacked generals, then again the field marshal promotes faster, because he has 20% more total divisions earning him points toward his next promotion due to having that, 6th general's divisions earning the field marshal some extra promotion points.
Short version: Overpacking your generals with 3 or so extra divisions each can cause promotions to happen faster, as long as you can still keep up a good K/D ratio. (A good K/D ratio gets you up to a 4x multiplier on each calendar day's promotion points earned, so you don't want to dilute the bonuses from the generals or field marshals so much that you are no longer close to that 4x multiplier.)
I remember doing this achievement. I conquered the world as the communists and then released the Soviets over and over again, battleplanning them each time.
It took me until 1992, maybe not the most effective strategy

After we declare war on the allies and destroy their divisions in the cities that they control in China, like Hong Kong, because the divisions that sail there will have zero organization value (the main thing is not to capture cities). At the same time, you can declare war on Portugal and the United States so that they have extra access to the sea in Macau and have more divisions to destroy.

I've been living in China for a while and used to play HOI4 in computer clubs. And there was no restriction about it, in fact. Though, I had already bought it before, in Russia, so I cannot say anything about buying.
Anyway, I was surprised of actual restrictions there. I thought everything was censored, but it appeared that I have been listening to any Russian or Western music via Chinese music app, playing any games, even bought the 1984 book in a store in Chinese. But movies are not as freely shown in cinema - there are censoring, indeed.
So, installing VPN to use Western social media is the only thing needed

@@myboysd5772 I've heard of it working from Russian and Western media only. Haven't faced it myself, neither have heard anything from natives. The only thing like that I know is an app's rating - more like your credit rating, in fact, because you use these apps to manage your finances and buy anything.
Moreover, you could even smoke weed in the dormitory or at the park with no consequences. So, with my experience living there, I am able to say that our meda are largely exaggerating about totalitarianism in China. Just as they do about any aspect of living in any country - I know that US and Europe are not so full of immigrants and transgenders, neither starving of lack of gas and oil, despite Russian media says they are. And Russia is fully civilised country with running economy and all the same goods in stores presented as well.
And the same could be applied to any example. As I see, people are people everywhere and most places are free to live - only with some culture differences and a bit different approaches to what is accepted to be publicly said and done and what is prohibited

Building supply hubs in vanilla hoi is so incredibly unbalanced. A civilian factory is about 9000 construction but a supply hub (keep in mind this should just be a camp with a railway running through it) is 20000 construction. W h a t
And naval bases which provide supply to both ground troops and ships only costs 3000. This is why mods exist.

My current HOI4 game is pure pain. I'm playing as naughty Germany. Allies are gone. Soviets are gone. China is gone (and I made the poor decision to be lazy and do a land invasion through Siberia, Sinkiang and Vietnam all at the same time - aka, three of the worst supply and air zones in the entire world. My troops were out of supply for a very, very long time. When do we get to design transport planes with longer range, Paradox? Please, my Fighters have double the range, let me upset my transports, dear lord, please).
And my General I've been grinding experience on is still only level 8 (with insane Attack, Defence and Planning skills, and so many abilities - but only level 3 Logistics. Holy fu...) despite being 'the guy' in the Spanish Civil War, Poland, the Netherlands, France, Italy (screw allying with the Italians, seriously, just don't do it - take them out and steal their fleet), Britain, the Soviet Union, Norway, Sweden, America, China and also a few other smaller wars... Still not level 9.
Oh and my fleet is disgusting. Turns out that combining the fleets of Germany, France, Britain, America, Japan and every minor nation in between is pretty gross. Its unbelievably huge to the point of being unusable.
Also, don't bother with loads of puppets. My god that's annoying to deal with. They won't stop sending me 'volunteers' of abysmal quality. The only puppet who's been worthy is India, purely for giving me almost half a million manpower for garrison duty (and my goodness, I need them).
And I don't even want to look at the stockpile of seized weapons. I just don't.
Or count how many military factories I now have. Or deal with the constant lack of resources.
Next time I'm playing a minor nation. For my own sanity. Having so many divisions the bar overflows into other windows is miserable. I think I have thirty armies now. More armies then I have generals. Please stop.

You can declare war on nationalist china after annexing shanxi and use cavalry to rush them before the Japanese invade. I tried this once, you just need like fourty 2 widths and a handful of normal divisions. I couldn’t cap the nationalists before the Marco Polo bridge incident but I occupied most of china at that point and I got all the nationalists land in the peace deal
