He's commonly referred to as a benevolent dictator, but he also brought hella corruption that the state is still sorting through. Very much a political strongman. He's in like, all alt history mods in Hoi4 for the American south as a leader because some people over idolize him.

Since the Soviet focus gives them an intelligence mission in Mexico maybe you could prevent Trotsky's assassination by just maxing out passive defense and putting all your spies on counterintelligence.
It's true. Trotsky stopped getting assassinated whenever I remembered to stack agency defence. If you get it high enough they don't even bother trying.

dude, dude, i did this with all dlc, its possible, ussr will try to do the kill trotsky spy mission always, you have to catch the soviet spy or prevent the AI from putting any spies in your country by maxing passive defense and having some spy with counterintelligence trait at home in the counterintelligence mission, being at war with the ussr might also help to target the soviet spies, go into your intelligence tab and take a look at your country shield, if its green then there is no soviet spy doing any missions there, ive gone past 1945 with trotsky still alive so its definitely possible

I got here by searching up "unhinged focus trees." Hoi4 is that game where either something plausible and grounded in reality happens, or Germany decides to declare itself the HRE for some reason. The Soviets have two missions to asassinate Trotsky, and the bug is that they can be repeated indefinitely. I had the soviets nearly capped and they got him on me.
And I suspect that there may be a mod on the Workshop that fixes it...

This achievement was an utter bitch for me. The fact that Trotsky getting assassinated is totally up to RNG is the biggest crock of sh*t Paradox has served us. Though I am of the belief that keeping spies on counter-surveillance or whatever it’s called does reduce the chance of him getting whacked by the Soviet Onion.
