You are correct, it’s been five years ago so I can’t be 100% on this but I would say that I had already stretched crossways before I did the closet. I have always done that and still do that.

I have seen those puckers. I think you are saying make relief cuts and stretch away from it. I don't lay carpet. I do maintenance on carpets though.
