      @@homeimprovementsI've installed for 40 yrs. Lots of incorrect work here. # 1 problem is they are not using a power stretcher. Even with a knee kicker, they are still doing a poor job. I have been doing restretch work for a few years now. I love folling these kinda guys. If you've been properly trained, you would never hire these guys.

      @@daveparkes8539you missed the point of the video I guess. They are showing this for a beginner level, someone like me, who never had to put a carpet or knew what basic tools are needed. It is not meant to be a "professional" work but a tutorial for people who never done it.

    I've watched quite a few clips on fitting carpet and this is absolutely the best by a country mile. Nothing has been taken for granted, everything has been explained. Showing how to fold the carpet is amazing. I had no idea how to get a 4m roll of carpet up a 130yo cottage narrow staircase. Thank you so much. I now feel much more confident in taking on the task in hand. Your both legends! 😃

    I didn't have a carpet kicker, so I made one out of scraps of wood. (It was the wood from a frame for a canvas picture, 4cm x 2.5cm cross section.) I glued it all together and screwed it to make the shape of a kicker.
    For the grip I used 4 strips of carpet gripper glued and nailed onto the flat base, which covered the 2 wooden strips deep. It turned out to be 14 cm x 8cm. Two smaller pieced were glued and screwed parallel to the connecting piece for added strength.
    The connecting piece 40cm long glued and screwed on top of the knee bit, which was made with one strip 14cm x 11cm then the two smaller strips 4cm x 5 cm glued and screwed. On top of that another two strips 14cm x 11cm again glued.
    Finished off with 2cm thick solid foam 14cm x 11cm glued on with wood glue.
    It works reasonably well enough to fit the carpet. Not quite up to your guys standard but the finished job looked good and tight. So thank you very much. I realised the previous fitting of the carpet grippers were way away from the wall, so moving them in as you showed made all the difference.

    Great job lads, and good instruction. Nice to see you didn't cut the Vs off around the pipes, was one of my pet hates, I was taught to tuck them in. I learnt 40 years ago, and probably 1 in 4 of the carpets we fitted was an Axminster, so had to get the pattern straight, and pattern match HSL it was great to see the back of patterned carpets the job became a lot easier and faster, if it makes a comeback fitters will recall the good old days when it was all twist.

    • @JR-1983
      @JR-1983 Год назад +1

      Yes I remember that, I was always taught to tuck around the pipes so if the radiator was ever moved it was an easy repair.
      I also remember when fitting Axminster folding the bottom rise on a step so they could be moved if they started to wear. All man made rubbish these days.

I have never tried this before but my daughters carpet is almost perfect (I went a bit mad with the Stanley knife in one small area so I glued a scrap in that place but you wouldn’t know). My daughter’s room was a perfect square so I had it pretty easy but after doing this I would definitely take on a larger more complicated space. Good luck
