I’ve been fitting 30 years. Never gripped risers , always turned back . Great demo , always 10 ways to skin a cat . As a side note, wear a aerosol mask when spray gluing . I worked in NZ for years and we always use PPE . Spray adhesive is cancerous 🇮🇪👌
I'm in agreement. Been fitting 35 years now and never grippered the riser but you're never too old to learn new tricks. I'll give it a go tomorrow lol... Great video by the way
I watched tour video on laying carpet to a room I did exactly as you showed and it came out perfect I didn't realise there was so much involved in laying carpet to get it right thank you I'm attempting the stairs with kits next thanks again very helpful phil
Excellent tutorial and i really like your atitude. However concerning grippers on the risers you may not be able to properly fix gripper to both sides of certain winders because of the tight angle and its nice to keep it all uniform. Apart from that you make everything look easy.
Very informative video, my mate Gio is always moaning about how he struggles when fitting stairs. I’ll share it with him as I’m sure this will help him greatly 👍
Great video, used to work decades ago with a fitter for extra cash, laying gripper basic tasks. However, have a fitter arriving tomorrow, Monday for 2rooms, landing, curved stairs, looking forward to seeing the skills again.....hopefully😊👍
New to your channel but love the way you actually take time to show a real demonstration rather then just trying to explain. Plus the let the haters hate type attitude is comical 🤣 great finish
Loved the videos (watched straight stairs and bull nosed bottom riser too) filled me with so much confidence I thought I'd have a go at our stairs which have 6 winders. OMG it is SO much harder than it looks 😂. Loads of really great tips for laying/cutting gripper and underlay.. all of that gone swimmingly, but the carpet I am using is incredibly stiff. I have done one winder and 3 straight risers so far and have learnt a lot. But I am going to cut templates for the rest of the winders/kites. Even with brand new blades I cannot trim the carpet when its on the stairs, so will try cutting to templates with tolerances. I can't even get the sharp edge with the bolster the carpet's so stiff. My husband says the 4 stairs I've done so far look really good, but only time will tell if the carpet stays in place 😬. Am I being really feeble or are some carpets much harder to work with than others?
I'm new to the industry and appreciate these tips, but from what I've seen with fitters I've been out with they're all way too busy to be putting this amount of time into it, even though this is slower to help people, thank for the tips, and for what it's worth that's not crap😂
Nice informative video…my carpet fitter mate uses gripper over riser method and it looks lots neater imo. My only criticism is grippers should never be nailed onto risers only screwed, as the hammering can cause the riser to come off at the back of the tread and they’re a nightmare to fix 👍🏼
Thanks lads for the video tips, really helpful. I never laid carpet before, and wanted to see if you had any videos or advice on how to lay a patterned stair runner that will also have rods onto three steps that are winders?
I’ve never seen them glued, double like a double glue down Job glue the carpet to the pad on a pie stare at the first as long as they look good and give good service
Nice job well explained, but please wear pads, your knees will thank you in 30 years. Now retired but was doing remedials for a short period and some of the work you see turned out in new houses is more shocking than ever.
So what is the benefit of going up vs. going down the stairs??? Cuz I swear I heard before in a diff vid y'all did that the pros normally go up and is better for some reason but harder to do as a diy'er?? Maybe I heard wrong but still I would like to know if there is a benefit for one way or another. Thxs
Great vids. I feel like I may actually be able to fit my own stair carpets now. Just out of interest, the carpet I’ve got is all off cuts (same carpet) so there’s plenty. Is this going to affect it in any way ? (Never fitted carpet before) 😂😂
How you doing bro yeah mate the finish is day and night to a fold. The thing Is understand is that we don’t get paid enough for stairs and landing. That’s why fold is a lot quicker. It’s about time we put our foot down and know our worth bro 🙌🙌charge more
Try living where I am in Germany, at least the part I live anyway. I mean nice carpet underlay? You should be so lucky as I cannot find it anywhere and even the big diy stores here look puzzled when I ask if they have it, its all that crap thin stuff for laminate, they said that is carpet underlay lol. Oh yea whilst I am at it with the rant, skirting boards? Nah not here, they stick plastic on the wall about the same height as a skirting board and it has a gap in it with removable double sided sticky tape to then wack and stick a strip of the same carpet you laid on the floor on to it, that is your f in skirting and it looks cack as hell. Same with tiled floors as well, half a tile against the wall is the skirting. I have however found great wooden skirting boards luckily here. What else? mmmmm Oh yea undercoat for gloss work, they look at me like im stupid and ask why do you need undercoat, seriously it is ridiculous here lol I have found t but it took some searching and lots of confused people to find some. Curtains? They love a bare window and everyone staring through here, no nets nothing and the curtains most do have are see through! Anyway rant over lol. Great video, ordering underlay online from the Uk, paying shit loads for the post but left with no choice, and am looking forward to laying carpets through my entire house and thanks to awesome people like this who take the time to explain in a fantastic way how to do these things, hopefully I will do a good job!

Excellent video. Well done English craftsmen :)
Thank you! Cheers!

Thanks guys I managed to fit carpet myself thanks to your video as no one was available at the time. Not a carpet fitter but looks good. Great video
Glad it helped 👍

Nice to see the sides grippered, makes for a much neater finish
😁😁🙏🏼🙏🏼

Great video again lads, ye really should make a video showing how to turn the sides as most folk cant ever get gripper on the inside of the kites
Noted 😁😁
New to your channel but love the way you actually take time to show a real demonstration rather then just trying to explain. Plus the let the haters hate type attitude is comical 🤣 great finish
😁 thanks appreciate it
Great instructions 👍👍 Thanks a lot 🍀
I'm a floor layer. I haven't seen gripper lapped up the bull nosing before. Finish looks great ill have to give this a try
Thanks Yh mate worth trying leaves a super clean finish 😊😊😊👌🏼
The best way to do it.
A much better finish.
I have a plastic bolster especially for crap paint jobs 👍.
Yeah just wished they had more weight behind them
You will need your plastic chisel a lot more now, coz normal paint is dog shite!
Super job lads❤
Great tutorial. Thanks a lot👍
Thanks for the comment much appreciated 🙌
Just because no one said it 'It's crap' Haha! Thanks for the advice! :)
I LIKE IT I LIKE IT ALOT 😂😂🙌🙌

With time comes speed mate 😁 and Yh we slow down by about 100x for videos 🤣 👌🏼
@@homeimprovements well I appreciate any help starting out, I'll keep watching, thanks.
Impressive know how!
👏🏼👏🏼
Honestly so helpful
😁🙏🏼
Good carpet skills helps a lot
😊😊
Hello mates, Hope you are both well,
Please put a video or advice on patterned runner on Winder Stairs,
Many thanks🙏
Great suggestion!

Didnt they use a maestri gun for it all? Cba to go back and check
Thanks lads for the video tips, really helpful. I never laid carpet before, and wanted to see if you had any videos or advice on how to lay a patterned stair runner that will also have rods onto three steps that are winders?
Our pleasure! 😁 nothing yet I’m afraid 🙈
Only put grippers on stair riser on winders? Or would this make a good finish on straight stairs aswel?
Great video again boys. Much appreciated
Only really need it on winders and obstacles like newel posts etc but I have used it on straights and works great 😊
Better not to put gripper up the rise of the step imo the more gripper you use the more likely you will be to put the back of the step through
Note: its not bending the pins as you wrongly state, otherwise the carpet would come off, but engaging the carpet backing onto the pins!
11:56 shadow 🤭
Stairs look good, but if there's a lip they should be upholstered. That's why the lip was put on the raw wood by the builder in the first place
This is uk nearly all house have waterful stairs here 🙌
I’ve never seen them glued, double like a double glue down Job glue the carpet to the pad on a pie stare at the first as long as they look good and give good service
You fancy wrapping my christmas presents this year fellas?
🤣👍🏼👍🏼🙏🏼
Using way to much carpet wraped looks so much better 60 year old carpet man here.
Is it possible to lay carpet on a concrete staircase?
It is 😊😊😊
Do you have video? How is it working? Or give some advice please 🙏
A good adhesive like flexi fix stick gripper first then standard steps for the rest 😊😊
Very useful thank you for sharing!
Out of interest what was wrong with the underlay type used? What do you recommend instead?
There all different grades that all 😁 cloud 9 is a great underlay to use
👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
😊😊
Nice job well explained, but please wear pads, your knees will thank you in 30 years. Now retired but was doing remedials for a short period and some of the work you see turned out in new houses is more shocking than ever.
Thanks John 😊
Agree
Use wall trimer boys its easy and better job.😮
What Maestri staple gun have you got? ME606, ME4000
Both but the 4000 is the one we use daily better gun imo 😁👍🏼
How do you guys manage to get the staple gun in on the risers when the winder is awkward and unreachable?
Sometimes you are unable to get the pin gun in so leave ungrippered and fold and tuck your carpet in 👍🏻
So what is the benefit of going up vs. going down the stairs??? Cuz I swear I heard before in a diff vid y'all did that the pros normally go up and is better for some reason but harder to do as a diy'er?? We can fit both ways, the bottom up is a lot harder and the difference is minimal, that’s why we teach this way 😊😉
So what are you guys charge for one star?
I’m totally surprised you put it on the riser over the stair. I’ve never seen that in my life and I’ve installed fly for 40 years.
Great vids. I feel like I may actually be able to fit my own stair carpets now. Just out of interest, the carpet I’ve got is all off cuts (same carpet) so there’s plenty. Is this going to affect it in any way ? (Never fitted carpet before) 😂😂
No this would be fine done it plenty of time 🙌🙌🔥

How much jobs do yous get through in a day out of curiosity?
When we used to fit 1 - 27 all depends on the job 👌🏼😊
loving the videos but your killing me you sound like michael caine pmsl
🤣🤣 your only supposed to blow the bloody doors off
