In this video you will learn how to fit a carpet, underlay, grippers and a carpet to carpet door bar. You will see the tools required to install carpet, underlay and grippers which include; carpet stretcher, bolster, straight Stanley knife, hammer, hack saw, staple hammer and tape measure.
The first part of the video is how to install grippers, including the spacing required for beginners and ensuring the gripper is the correct direction and how to install a door bar.
Then we demonstrate how to install underlay, how to cut to size and staple to the floor.
Finally you will see how to install a carpet where you will learn the easiest way to get the carpet to your room, the direction of pile, the stretching pattern and how to cut and stretch the carpet and scrub the grippers. Also how to fit the carpet into the door bar.
If you have every wanted to do it yourself and fit install your own carpet then this video will help you through all the steps required to fit your grippers, underlay and carpet with lots of tips and tricks to make it easy for you to do yourself.

I have looked at quite a few of these Carpet Fitting guides but this one is the best by far. Simple, to the point and more than a few tips for the DIY'er (that's definitely me) I now feel a lot more confident to have a go at a small room and hopefully work my way up from there

This is bang on .. this is a genuinely exactly how I was taught as an apprentice to fit rooms, clearly worked as a carpet fitter at some point and moved on to multi trade now good job 👍🏻

Nice one lads, shiny bolster, Wolff knives, as a fitter of 40+ years, you nailed this. Only thing i would do different is ALWAYS tape my joins in the underlay & a few more staples, but as you said, just personal preference, otherwise 100%..........Nice one indeed.

Great instruction vid guys. Love the corner V for Vendetta technique, so now Ill never forget it. I have a room that narrows to a 1m corridor at one end (like a pyramid) meaning I will have loads of spare to manage the closer I get to it. Any tips for managing the spare carpet either side of the cuts? Also, I followed your stairs guide and got a great finish thanks.

Little tip for you... instead of struggling with wires around the edge, simply trap the wire with some more gripper

Just fit my bedroom carpet, love your videos and this video really helped. Struggled on cutting the carpet with the right amount to tuck, always seemed to be leaving too much and having to try re cut which was awkward as there wasn’t a lot of room to cut. Any tips to make sure I trim the right amount for tucking lads?
Comes down to practice I’m afraid you’ll slowly get the feel for it and glad you gave it a go 😁💪🏼

@@jdc9809 I can confirm, it comes down to practice and look a lot of little mistakes like cutting too short or cutting too long. Like when you were learning to write as a kid. You learn to stay in side the lines and get your spacing right.

Hi gentlemen. I am a lady of a certain age, do you think I could manage to fit my own stair carpet or are you just advising other men? I ask because the carpet I have bought for the stairs is a good quality, not thin or flimsy?. I guess I am asking, should I get a carpet fitter to do the job incase I ruin it? Great videos... Hiya, thanks for the clear instructions. got a quick one though as what I'm trying to do is to fix a squeaky floor underneath near where the door trim/ door bar is. What would be the best way to remove/lift the carpet as it's currently being gripped by the trim? hope I'm makin sense. Cheers
Best bet is to work from a wall up to the bar to remove it just be carful not to damage it when pulling it out 😁😁 hope that helps

What is you had laminate floor fitted before hand, then have a 10mm gap between floor and skeleton boards?

How comes you rolled out the underlay and then flipped it colour side up? Doesn't the colour side usually face down? Good video thanks
Thanks 😊 and all depends on the underlay your using most have logos that go logo side up 😊✌🏼
Very informative, thanks. I am needing to run an electric cable (10mm cable so won't be able to run directly under the carpet) under the floor boards, following the line of the old cable. I need to lift and then replace the carpet without damaging it. Is there a way to do this myself or would you suggest hiring a professional?
Thanks you will need some fitting tools if it is a stair carpet I wouldn’t advise it as that’s a bit more difficult

Hi,
If I have a gaps between my floor boards, would you fill them in? I have about 5mm gaps between the floor boards. I can't see them being filled before. Old underlay was a black rubber type and there are a lot of dust gathered in these gaps.

I would suggest a 5.5mm ply sp101 filling could create creaks in the future 😁

I always put a bit of waste in the other side of the door bar to save catching your 🦶🏻 on the spikes
hello uhm “lads” i didnt understand howone decided which walls to start on, and the frame of thinking for which way to go. I understand it suppose to be tight like as if i was trying to put a plastic over a canvas to make it smooth using anchor points. it seems there isnt consistency in deciding which wall to start on why and the reasoning. i know it seems the first wall one starts on they dont stretch they only lock it in?
Don't you think that proofesional floormans leave not holes on the floor like you do. Costumer can injurid yourself.......

That’s not the centre of a run of underlay it’s the edge of that run 👍🏼
@@homeimprovements lol that's the centre all day! I've never seen a fitter staple the joins on underlay, but I have seen them taped.

Why don't you seam the carpet together at the doorways instead of using metal

This is video is so misleading. Why would you use a knee kicker and not a power stretcher? Also, you should wear high quality knee pads, not the cheap ones.
No way a knee kicker will stretch thick quality carpet tight.
Please tell them they should use a power stretcher for best results
WRONG this is fitted to BS specs so don’t come in here making false accusations pal . Your name says it all confused for sure over 5m requires a power stretcher ! Thanks for stopping by however have a good day
