Kicking 6" behind the strip lol then cutting down right on the baseboard. Time to throw out my wall trimmer if this Is the standard for cutting in. Whole video is a joke
Great video! Everything I need to know to lay my own carpet without excessive discussion. Small rooms with low traffic so no seaming and no power stretcher needed.
Nice video. It was probably done in such a way to give the viewers a basic understanding of how carpet is installed. I’m sure that many installers have several different variations incorporating their own techniques. Like anything else, if you want to become good at it, practice is a great approach. I’m a bit puzzled however, by a lot of the comments from people who seem to have some experience installing carpet. If they know a better way of how the process works or what tools they should be using, what the heck are they doing viewing and heckling a “how to” video about something they have supposedly mastered?
Hahahahah, I always wonder about such comments too! My thought is always, if you know how to do something better, why don't you upload your own video and show how it should be rightly done? I on the other hand am always greatly for people giving their time, energy and money to teach others like myself, about anything.
The proper way to clean carpet is to clean it with a carpet cleaning machine preferably a mobile carpet cleaning service. Make sure a prespray cleaner is applied 1st generally to just the problem soiled areas and then rinsed by extracted with total clean water from the the mobile unit. If soapy water is only used from the machine and not rinsed with clean water it will leave a soap residue which can gum up your carpet.
Power stretchers are really only need for larger rooms, in a typical bedroom or living room a knee kicker is all you need if you do it right. Make sure one section behind the wall your stretching is attached properly to the tack strip or you’ll just pull the carpet off of it
Generally the lower the pile of your carpet the more the tack strip pins can poke your feet. General practice says to not take a hammer to bend the tack strip pins down but using your fingers to gently find the pins should solve your problem.
Never use a carpet knife to trim carpet along the wall because you are not only cutting the carpet but you are gouging the wall trim... that’s why they have a wall trimmer tool
This is an Australian based outfit and hopefully this guy stays there. Problem solved. Oh yeah a good place to start is the guy failed at higher math hence the 10ft tape measure 😄
Awful installation ! Underlay bigger then the gripper height & cutting the carpet to joint from the top when it should be done from the back !! The seam will show for sure.
You're right about cutting a plush from the topside, which cuts the yarns. As for the comment about the pad (underlay) being higher than the tack strip (grippah), tack strip is only 1/4" thick, so unless you install 1/4" pad, it will always be taller/higher than the strip. This is not an issue. Also, there was never any weight put on the seam after being put together, the weight holds the carpet in the seam-tape glue until it sets and also draws heat out of the seam. The seam also needs to be pulled off the pad before stretching, as sometimes it will stick to the pad.
Banzan Buddhist, pointing out things that are incorrect, does not a "troll" make. If someone is trying to show others how to do something, like installing carpet, then it should be done CORRECTLY.
And where are you from? Many tools and supplies in many industries have different names in different locations and sometimes even multiple 'common' names in the same location. Not really relevant what it's called, it's how it's used that is important. ;-)
You better start saving up for air fair to Australia. Don't want to be left behind doing it all wrong. Maybe we can get a discount air fair together cuz I've always called it carpet pad. 😁
I've been a professional installer for 32 years, I have certifications in every type of rug. This is a horrible video! It will show wrinkles in months and the seam will be seen across the room.
Sure I do high end jobs and just bought a hero sessions. Then you post a video about how your carpet is wrinkling and you have cuts all over your baseboard, because you have no clue!
I have installed carpet for only 25 years with other flooring. This is a joke. If you don’t have a power stretcher with tubes you void carpet warranty. Knee kicker is unexplainable means of installing carpet. They are used to start a first corner of a room and stairs or to adjust the carpet. If a “pro” comes in with a knee kicker on anything larger than a 8’x8’ room you’re being taken. The money you’re paying might as well be burnt. They will tell you it’s how all do it with the kicker but it’s not. Stretching a room is an art form also to not put bubbles in. If you’re carpet is lose it will wear faster.
Waite on that grand piano, 12ft multi tv/stero/computer wall unit and 5 piece bolt together leather corner sectional with matching glass coffee tables till your carpet is restricted with a power stretcher. 😁
Total cowboy, I've been a floor layer for nearly 35 yrs and have never fitted a carpet as badly as that, gives a false impression of easyness too !

Wow! Short and brief video. Thank you
Great video. 5 minutes and one has a great idea of how the pros do it!
Thank you - simple explanation and brief. Very helpful.
So uh, how did your installation come out
We’re dying to know
Nice work done for carpet floor installation. Thanks for sharing!
this was a great video
How do you keep it clean? And what when it gets dirty? Can you wash it and reinstall it? How often do you wash it and what is its lifespan??
shampoo it

what a video!
Don't think you're going to watch this and install your own carpet lol.
Lol, I was but not anymore.
Oh boy is this guys comment correct. Lol
I totally agree. They left out the most important tool, the power stretcher.
@@cfmcarpetcleaning568 I don’t need one I just stretch it myself with a kicker
I will
This is an AWESOME video! Simple but informative. Thanks!!
I noticed how they didn’t use a power stretcher unlike in other tutorials, is this fine?

Awesome video! But, How to get rid of those pins on the edges? When I step on edges I could feel them. Some are a bit sharp.
