    I have installed carpet for over forty years & if you want the carpet installed right without wrinkles in 6 months you need a carpet stretcher

      That crab stretcher is awesome...as long as your tac strip is solid. Dont be cheap on tac strip..some of it's junk. Order it ahead time, bid job and once accepted get 1/2 labor and ALL material cost up front..definitely on large jobs.
      Sadly vids like this do run value down on trade yet enriches folks who are starting up. Great vid to the point.

      I installed carpet for 35 years and YES, you need a power stretcher. The sarcastic tone of voice at 3:25 ticked me right off.

      Carpet has a backing made of many different materials. Rugs ,, not so much. Ripping the rug is a probability. You can even rip carpet. Good luck!

    This video was two quick, and didn't quite explain the process to a person who would be watching this. This is more for people that have installed carpet before but it was a long time ago and they need a quick refresher. If you're looking to learn about how to get your DYI project done, I'm not sure this is the best video.

      Goods 1s yes..Any installer that was trained even remotely decent were taught a few things immediately..Clean work only shoes with white soles and The biggest things is when you cut yourself, which is going to happen if you do this for a living is get the "F" off the new carpet, then worry about the bleeding , which means unless you actually cut a finger off, grab the duct tape, pressure tape it and get back to work.

    Professional flooring installer here...you cannot free cut your edge like that or you will see the seam... It has to be straight... You can use a knee kicker, but it'll be all wrinkled up within a year ...

      Professional carpet installer here, seam your right but my carpet in my house that I knee kicked 5 years ago says your wrong. General Floor installers always have that assumption but full time carpet guys will tell you otherwise

      I can’t believe he dropped his seam without a straight edge lol always easier with a straight edge you actually should row run everything. And you should power stretch everything but knee stretchers work fine for rooms about 12 feet long or so

      Also use a wall trimmer you’ll be even faster..

      @@mperales121 I definitely think knifes are faster but I double kick when I use cutters but that seam. There's no tractor no weight and no duck bills being used on it 😳 I'd be shocked if that was a good seam

    So what about the the direction of the carpet? You need to tell people about how you direct the carpet a certain way for wear patterns. One of the most important things you left out!

    I have 16 years installing carpet. And first time that I see a guy do the seams without back cutter or a straight metal .. think about how will look the seams when the costumer clean with the vaccum

      That's easily doable and then some if the store is busy enough and it's not a cheap shit store selling all stock carpet..2 guys can install 90 -125yds daily depending on a bunch of variables.. is their take up, furniture, does tackstrip need to be put down..going rate for good installers were I'm at is $5.50-.$8yd just to install..90yds @5.5 is almost 500 daily 2500 in 5 days installer is making 1500 helper 1000..Now add take up ..another 90×$1.50 $135 per day.
      Plus haul away another$150 on the week..installers can easily make 1500 at decent stores

    If I were this home owner. I would take this video to a sales representative. This was not installed to CFI standards. The installer would and should be responsible for all new carpet.

      Probably a weak spot in the pad or they left something under the pad or carpet

    120 yds in 2 days for a diy, how about planning on at least a week than after that your going to have to call a pro to come and fix it so you wont trip over the seams you made btw always use a power stretcher

      @@snowrider5150 actually I do 23 years in the floor covering trade. I do things the right way and you cannot stretch carpet with a kicker. It merely jars the rug I’ve worked with many carpet installers over the years that made the claim I can stretch with a kicker. Let them kick it in then come back with a stretcher and cut off an inch and a half of rug at the wall where they just kicked it. Kickers are for moving seams, setting walls, installing stairs they have they’re use but they are not for stretching plain and simple
