Just got my replacement handle from 1A. Folks, get the metal reinforced handle. The handle is actually all metal with a textured coating that looks like factory plastic. Pretty good.
Awesome, one of the easiest fixes I have had on this truck so far. I thought I was going to have to take apart the inside stuff and find connections etc... this was a snap, everyone should do it with a broken handle. I just don't really get what the little lock thing on the bottom is for, or why it is even there. I think it's what has caused many of these to break.
I followed the link to purchase both handles as they both broke within a week of each other. I was really surprised how fast my order arrived. 2 buisness days to New Hampshire! They went in just as easy as the video shows. Lucky find for the video in the first place as I was having a bear of a time finding the parts!

Great video. I believe that bottom latch mechanism freezes in the colder climates, then with the plastic handles spells disaster. They sell metal handles that are extremely well built. Buy once.
If you take the door panel off, you should be able to reach inside the door and pull on the rod to pop the door open so that you can make a repair. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
@justinpitre You might need to remove the door panel to see what has broke off of the latch or door handle that is preventing the latch mechanism from releasing.

I didn't think the WD-40 would make such a difference. Put it on, I thought I was going to break the handle, sprayed some of the old faithful, and works like new. 2000 chevy silverado
Hello i have a problem my drivers side door on my 2000 gmc sierra extended cab the drivers side rear door must be worn out and its loose when i shut it if i go down a choppy road i can here the door moving its makes a ratlle noise no wind noise though so i was wondering is there a way to tighten the rear door on a 2000 gmc sierra ext cab? like the latches or the posts and thanks for this video because my rear door handle is broken lol so i will be replacing it soon looks really easy to do.
It looked like you were using WD-40 as a lubricant for the latch parts. This will only serve temporarily as it is silicone based and dries up in a couple of weeks. So, in 2 to 3 weeks it will be like it was never sprayed. WD-40 is my 1st choice for freeing rusted and stuck parts though.
can you guys do a video on how to either tighten or replace the rear door window latch on 1999-2000 extended cab GM trucks ( mine's is lose as hell and upon hitting the highway , you can hear all kinds of hissing from the wind)i had to temporarily stuff it, in order to tighten the latch grip but it eventually falls off :(

I took my door skin and handle off. Theres a rod that is connected the the latch at the bottom of the door, and a plastic piece on top that looks like it broke so its not connected and wont unlatch at the bottom of the door. Do you sell the plastic piece or the rod with the plastic piece in place so I can fix this.
James C Hey James, did you ever get this fixed? I am also experiencing the same issue as the bottom will not unlatch. I believe this is because the small plastic holding the one of the rods has broken.
Luey M mine had the small plastic clip break that holds the rod in place. Most local auto parts stores sell a universal kit that has multiple clips in there and one of them should work on your truck. Thats how I fixed mine.
+Justin a The new parts will not include hardware. The original hardware would need to be used or new hardware would need to be purchased at a local hardware store. Thank you.

alright i just figured it would be fairly similar but i took a closer look at the 3rd door handle and its not held in place by a bolt or screw... but thanks for the speedy reply! i would definitely be thankful for a video on it cause my door is froze solid lol.

If they would make these things out of metal, and then plastic coat them they would last decades, and the manufacturers wouldn't have to sell so many of them.
@@edwardschwenk3100 Why would they make something that lasts forever? Then you wouldn't spend your money to fix stuff! They want you to spend more money.
Cheap plastic. My 2002 s10 ext cab 4.3 i replaced the 3rd door handle 3 times after it broke. The 3rd time it broke i was like FI and that was 12 years ago.

what’s the purpose of the little lever at the bottom of the handle
What is the piece called just below the door handle that he is working on
Thank you for putting this out. It saved me time and money!!!

Wow. Too easy. I was sure there was going to be something inside (behind the handle) that needed "touching". Thanks!!!
What is the little lever below the extended rear door handle for?
This!

@justinpitre It depends on the vehicle. It can be a little challenging.
Inside of the cab handle open the door, the one on the side of the door does not. Mechanically the handle works good.
Thanks Dale
@justinpitre You might need to remove the door panel to see what has broke off of the latch or door handle that is preventing the latch mechanism from releasing.

My handle is broke and the door seems to be stuck at the bottom. If i tug on the top of the door hard the bottom will pop open, what would be wrong?
Wd-40 is not a good lubricant. Use actual lubricant and itll work much better
WD40 is NOT a lubricant. Use Fluid Film!
My handle snapped at -50 C
The rod that runs from the handle to the lower latch has come off on mine. How do I reattach it?
