Megadeth were my first concert way back when I was 14😱😱😱! They were awesome and left me half dead for a full week. The support bands were The Almighty (brilliant and worth listening to if you are unfamiliar) and a still unheard of Alice In Chains who were spectacular. Even now I am left speechless at how incredible a night it was. Those were wonderful days to be alive where you could see a line up like that for £12, get picked up at the door by a parental taxi and not have to be worried by running out of steam the next day as you were young and it was only school so who really cared anyway!! Anyone have a time machine?🤘🤘
A little background on how this song came to be so when Megadeth was touring before Rust In Peace came out they came to Belfast and that's when The Troubles were in full swing and before the gig Dave was outside the venue and he spotted someone selling fake merch and he was about to go and tell him to cut the shit but someone stopped him and said he was selling the merch "for the cause" for those of you that don't know that basically means the guy was selling the dodgy merch to make money for the IRA (Irish Republican Army). Dave went back inside and started the show at some point in the middle of the set they were gonna do a cover of Anarchy In The UK and he announced "this is for the cause give Ireland back to the Irish" and pretty much instantly the crowd which was a mix of Catholic and Protestants descended into a full blown riot and the band had to get the hell out of there and the next day they had to be escorted out of Belfast all the way to Dublin in an armoured bus because I think and correct me if I'm wrong they were threatened by Protestant paramilitaries and they immediately got on the next flight/boat over to England I'm dead serious this actually happened and as a result we got this song.
I used to listen to these guys but never really thought much about them. Then one day I heard them on the radio doing an interview and then I became a big fan. They were so friendly, humble and gracious. They didn't sound anything like a rock band. Just some real cool ordinary guys. Shout out to Mega Death a true class act!
