    1. Organize yourself. "Science is organized knowledge. Wisdom is organized life"
    2. Follow through. Have discipline. Parent yourself. Reward yourself.
    3. Follow universal principles. Use reasoning. Ask yourself "if everyone does what I do, would it be a better world?"
    4. Schedule time for developing your skills.
    5. Make time for the small things. Talking to friends, walking in the park, enjoying social activities.
    6. Make time for your other duties. Behaving nice only when we feel like is morally wrong.
    7. Make time for moral self-development. What can I know? What should I do? What can I hope for?

This video has to be taken with a grain of salt. It begins trying to establish Kant as an authority on advice like this by mentioning what some of his ideas were and we espouse some not them. But it’s not right. Agreeing with something someone says isn’t sufficient reason to agree with other advice they give. Many people disagreed and still disagree with Kant ideas in any case.
He was rich and had the option of organizing his life how he thought was most beneficial. Average and especially poor people don’t have this luxury.
There is also a suggestion that being disciplined is just a matter of deciding to do this. If it were then why do so many people agree with something that makes sense and don’t follow their own advice? Because we don’t have full willpower over ourselves.
There is no evidence that following strict discipline make a person happier or better in any objective way. How do we know that strict discipline doesn’t cause our mind to become rigid and closed minded, or somehow doesn’t affect us negatively in other ways?

    • @calebgilbert3036

The real question is: Have you tried it?
I had a startling revelation when I was 21. I was struggling through an associate’s program while working a full time job at a factory and drinking myself to sleep every night. I live in a very poor part of the US (Southeast Kentucky) so the lap of luxury isn’t one I’ve sat in much.
My revelation was that no matter our socioeconomic status, our degrees of privilege, or our “luck”: we all inhabit the same length of every day. The analogy I used at the time was: “If your life was a 2-hour movie, would you spend 90 minutes of it wasting time? Wandering aimlessly? Casually applying yourself to things you claim to have passion for?”
The answer for most people is a vehement and resounding “no”. At the risk of sounding like a new-age cliché: We have no control over where we begin, but we have at least some control over where we end up.
Armed with this new inspiration, I went to the extreme in discipline. From daily journal entries to arbitrarily driving the exact speed limit on my way to work, going to bed at 9 PM, waking up at 4 AM, daily reading, extra education on top of my college classes. I stopped smoking. My house was *immaculate* (I almost got to the “label” phase), I cooked nutritious meals every day. I had a steady exercise regimen. But I also stopped watching any form of entertainment, I stopped drinking, and I engaged in the most extreme eremitical behavior known to man. All in the span of 2 months.
This unlearned rigidity resulted in white-hot rage at others who acted as agents of chaos in my life. If a phone call lasted 5 minutes longer than I planned for it to, I would be irate and my mood would sour for the rest of the day. This streak of my disciplinary development culminated in a fist fight with a childhood friend in which we sent one another to the hospital. This approach was unfruitful.
However, I eventually resolved myself to a shift in tactics. Instead of time-blocking, I pursued a task-oriented approach instead. This worked much better for me and I still use it today. I’m now in grad school, I’ve been to 19 countries, I’m proficient in Spanish and learning German now. I was promoted to corporate for a fairly sizable international company. I’ve read the entire Bible chronologically at least 4 times. I’m a decent chess player and I am the frontman for a moderately successful regional band.
I won’t bore you with every petty detail of my life, but I will say, from my own experience: The idea that organizing your life is an “option” only available to the rich is demonstrably false. “Just deciding” is exactly the very barrier that most folks cannot overcome. You may decide today to do something productive, but that decision must be made every day. Every waking moment. You claim there is “no evidence that following strict discipline makes a person happier or better”. Where is your citation? 3 minutes on Google will point you to an endless avalanche of folks who lived in discipline and made their mark on history. From Kant to Plato to the Founding Fathers. You need only open your eyes and the evidence will assault you.
Discipline truly does lead to freedom. Try some discipline or you may awaken one day at 60 and lament a life un-lived.

Kant just had Autism Spectrum Disorder also known as Asperger's and this is how many people with that trait like to organize their lives, they love routine and hate novelty. Kant never left Koningsberg his entire life and would take the exact same walk every day rain or shine. To him I'm sure it was comforting and enjoyable, but to many people this would be torture.

This video is really very good and actually I am organising my life in a similar structured way as Immanuel Kant, without having been aware of it before. My favourite imperative is “So act that your principle of action might safely be made a law for the whole world”. This is why I have a solid rational reason for doing good things like engaging in environmental protection policies. Moreover I do my daily routine exercises every morning and cook my own fresh vegetables every day instead of gossiping at work. I also totally agree that aesthetic judgement follows from model judgement and that we have the duty also to take care of our families. This is why I visited my sister last weekend after she had had a little heart surgery. Finally I enjoy to learn from other cultures and that’s why I hate narrow minded people.

(Extract taken from A Philosophy of Walking by Frédéric Gros.)
    Müller
I have, in any case, a troubled relationship to Kant, because at age ten I read Kant for the first time - my father had that lying around - it was the Metaphysics of Morals. And naturally the first chapter I read was the one on onanism. And that disturbed me deeply, because he considered it completely reprehensible and in every respect the worst and the most undignified thing that exists . . .
    Kluge
    What's his argument for that?
    Müller
    It's against the laws of nature, against God's will . . .
    Kluge
If nature has given human beings the power to procreate, then it's reprehensible not to use it.
    Müller
Exactly, that troubled me deeply at that time. And then I was so happy when, years later, I read an anecdote to the effect that Kant supposedly masturbated once a week, or even more often, on the same oak tree in the park where he always took his walks. That reassured me. And from then on I was no longer very interested in Kant.
    Kluge
    He had been refuted.

    He had been refuted, yes.

His reasoning about and pursuing morality may cause confusion and lead to confounding in some. For example: how do you reconcile the talks and actual practices of understanding diametrically opposed cultures and values - the current Russian-Ukrainian war stemming from the incompatibility of capitalism and communism, the contradiction between individual freedom and the collective rights of the state - the same dilemma that the CCP face, but wish to ignore?

As a German, 67 years of age, I have been following Kant's example to some extent since my time in primary school. Although Prussian discipline has been exploited many times in history, I particularly like Kant's concept of the "categorical imperative", as we call it in German: 'behave as you want all other people around you to behave.'

The biggest irony in this video is that the most business people do their "craft" just to get promotions, bigger salaries, and bigger social status. Without pursuing them, there remains no other craft for them to pursue.

Kant decided for himself that routine is the best way to pursue life .Dutifully. Reaction ,intellectual, to our accomplishments,we find ourselves back at the beginning. Kant was the dutiful beginning and end to recycling ourselves.

You kind of took some liberties or at least extrapolated Kant based on your own ideas or at least interpretation. Definitely not classical, especially at the end when you were preaching on how one should relate to other cultures. That was you, not Kant. Unless you have a handy citation from his writings.

On the whole, a very good summary of Kant's ethics, and quite cleverly contextualised for the modern person too, in circumstances Kant would never have dreamed of, and which, on the whole, would probably have horrified him. I do wonder what the mindless music adds, though? It's just a background noise, isn't it? Not really music at all. Consider what Kant would have said about our need to have a ceaseless quasi-musical background going on all the time. Either music is worth listening to, with all your attention--which is definitely not the case here--or else it's better if we just concentrate on the words spoken. Otherwise that sentimental, bland noise just distracts us.

This is a really a pile of good work done by Kant only through good time management for benefit of human society. If you go through the vdo 3 four times and think many more times as regards importance of each section then one can realise what's a precious life on earth suppose to be here like that of Kant's. He will continue to influence.

The only thing I disagree with is "eating a cookie" to reward yourself. 7:45 Food should never be used as rewards or punishments (with humans), especially something so unhealthy. This promotes unhealthy eating habits and a toxic relationship with food. The food you eat should be based exclusively on your metabolic needs, and not affected by your behavior at all.

You don't know Kant's philosophy. He didn't say that. That's how you understand his philosophy based on his biography, which is definitely WRONG. Kindly read "Critique of Pure Reason" and tell me if he really said what you said. Tsk tsk tsk.
