  • In reality, problems cannot exist without a perceiver, as circumstances aren’t troublesome without someone or something identifying them as such. So, if there’s nothing inherently problematic about reality, doesn’t that mean that we humans repeatedly (and on a grand scale) worry about problems that don’t even exist?

    That's not to say I don't have my moments. It gets to me sometimes and I might get upset or angry for a few minutes. Honor your pain. Honor any occurances of injustice that has remained and allow your woes to be witnessed and expressed, THEN after you shed that sufficiently, watch this again to now shift your perspective. @GHØUL Muh that was your journey, I absolutely see no problem with it. You stayed in your pain for as long as you needed to be. The only thing that matters is the reality of what happened. If that event (reading the book) didn't happen, you would probably have stayed with your pain for a while more and that's ok, too. Some people take a long time to change their lives, others do it pretty quickly and there's no need to compare people's journeys. You did what you had to do in order to stay afloat, and then you found your motivation to overcome the situation. What you achieved is great, but it would have been fine if you felt you needed to stay with your pain a while longer.

The next life is a continuation of the present and it will be exactly the same, just as the opening balance of next year is exactly the same as the closing balance of last year. Not an iota will change or be different. So start the process of change NOW and learn to live a satisfied and peaceful life. This stage is what I perceive as happiness.

      If the mind is an _excellent_ *servant* then why do so many people lose control so easily? & what is this about a _poor master_ ? Robin Sharma mentions this old proverb in his book 'The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari' . "see *through* the mind" ? You can't see through a mirror & all you can do, is _attempt_ to control your mind (after all, it's yours for a life-time).
      Without a mind, one cannot discriminate one thing from another; nor can one see, hear, taste, or smell anything, Mr. Meditation-breath.

    People may perceive problems differently, but we should still be sympathetic and supportive when someone has an experience that is a problem to them, but not to us eg breakdown of a marriage, death of a loved one, or loss of a job, for example.

      Having empathy is thou kind of a different topic. It's not argued here that we all "experience problems" and therefore should be empathetic to each other and supportive.
      But simply becoming mindful about how we handle those troubling situations and the emotions that arise with them can help tremendously.
      I recently rediscovered the teachings of daoism as I am suffering through a break up. I have never found as much value out of meditation ever before. I do allow the grief to fully take me over when it arises. But it is coming with a feeling of hopelessness that I struggled to get out from. Simply sitting still and allowing myself to do the very basic first step of noticing my thoughts and returning to my breath helped me so much to get back some sence of peace and ground myself and remind myself that this moment that caused that pain already passed and I am now already in the process off accepting my new presence.

    What we grow up with, what we are taught, how we are raised, educated and the experiences we have as children, often shape our perceptions and biases in life.

    A rich and mighty Persian once walked in his garden with one of his servants. The servant cried that he had just encountered Death, who had threatened him. He begged his master to give him his fastest horse so that he could make haste and flee to Teheran, which he could reach that same evening. The master consented and the servant galloped off on the horse. On returning to his house the master himself met Death, and questioned: “Why did you terrify and threaten my servant?” Death answered: “I did not threaten him; I only showed surprise in still finding him here, because I planned to meet him tonight in Teheran.”

    Huh, wonderful! I've always seen my perspective as subjective but it works for me. In my world, things aren't perfect, but, there's never been a need for money and I'm always finding the silver lining in even the most unfortunate circumstances. I welcome anyone and everyone to join me in this beautiful philosophy. But then again, to each their own.

    • @TAROTAI
      @TAROTAI 2 года назад

      It's not a _philosophy_ to be *subjective* . In your case, you have been lucky in various circumstances, as you don't need money & you *always* seem to have a silver lining, despite all odds against you - this is not a philosophy; it's a condition of circumstance.

    • @chrismuratore4451
      @chrismuratore4451 2 года назад +2

      Fair point. Although, objectively speaking, I doubt anyone would see any of my circumstance as lucky per se. It was more so a lot of focused effort on my part to learn to live a minimalist lifestyle and to not allow the heaviness of things I can't control to weight life down.

    Worrying about problems we don't have, but could, is a gift from our intelligence. Other animals don't have very good brains, but we do, and we took over the planet because of it. The real problem is worrying about something, not doing anything about it, and then worrying some more.

    The Buddha said “ the beginning of wisdom is to call things by their proper names.” I think this relates to the two truths in this video. We live in a subjective reality based on our own interpretations of ourselves and the world around us. Others see us through their interpretation of reality which could be quite different or unimaginable to us. There is an objective reality we can only perceive by encountering the uncompromising reality of death. Even then many avoid that by constructing a fantasy that shields them from accepting that ultimate reality. That’s where we get religion, belief in ghosts or the fantasy that some beloved celebrity never really died. The truth or objective reality is always there like the stars in the daytime. They are there but we can’t see them as our ego based reality like the sun blots it out. I know for a fact that many people think the stars only exist at night while any amount of logical thought would tell you that is ridiculous. In fact it’s childish thinking focusing only on what you can or cannot see while your mind can tell you the truth. Even understanding this does not allow you to see the stars in the daytime. Logic tells you they are there even if you can’t see them. This is how we should think of objective reality even though we can never actually see it.
