So true....so true!

Totally agree
@@trisharivers5588 count me in 🙏
Laynes voice on Junkhead is so underrated, those belts are crazy
Definitely the best. I’d give half my retirement to see just that song live from 92-93.
Layne was such a technically GIFTED singer that I think it’s lost A LOT because people get so focused on how utterly unique his voice and stylings were that they overlook how on point and perfect his singing was.
My mum is obsessed with Vocals and even she said hes very good but weird ahaha, I think his voice is unreal, like guys like Hetfield and Dio and Layne mastered belting his voice without damaging it
No doubt
Prob true but I get it. And it’s funny because he’s mostly remembered as a junkie. And the mf’er was pitch perfect on fucking fire EVERY show. It’s the way the world works. Real genius goes over people’s heads.
I'm constantly listening to Layne in admiration of his talent. His talent was just insane. What's over my head is just how perfect his singing was, always!! And his absolute power! Almost inhuman or something! Incredible talent!!! ❤❤
Any reaction videos covering Alice In Chains with Layne Staley are super impressed with his ability, technique, breath control, etc. Amazing man. Miss him terribly.

Love it when Layne laughs. This whole show is great.
Layne is PERFECTION... He's the only vocalist who could make my bones cry....
Could you point which bones exactly?
You mean “Them bones” ;))
Holy fuck, what a stellar performance of Love, Hate, Love... Starts off with a bone chilling riff, then Layne brings you into the anger behind the song with his voice. Then you hear that eeriness again, then once again you get dragged back in it. What a fucking masterpiece.
he was in such great shape here!
I can never tell until he went an played MTV unplugged. He always looked the same up until than. I think when he did mad season is when he really got hooked on heroin because the whole group did it. Once he was too deep he had no escape because he was chasing that high that he got the first time he used it.. unfortunately he found it an we all lost a legendary musician.
@@Spyhydrohe also started smoking crack too. Like right before the mad season era. That’s what caused him to lose his teeth. And that’s when he started to look different as well.
Lane was a world class singer, in the strangest way. He was beautifully haunting an dark an powerfully yet so melodic an catchy with the lyrics. He had a gift that was strictly his own. 🤘🙏
Fucking epic. Makes current radio suck even more everytime i look back to this.
The old days were the best days!
They only ever play man in the box on the rock radio stations around here. Sometimes they'll play rooster and maybe would
Omg I couldn't agree more! I have my stash of AIC in my car at all times!
When is Sean Kinney going to get some damn recognition for being a bad ass drummer!!!?
He does amognst the fans, but I don't think he's recognized enough through awards and magazines etc.
Exactly, he is easily the best drummer from the 90's 💗
@@TheStepmonkey
He’s great and every drummer knows that, but ”best” is a pretty bold statement, especially when there is no such thing.✌️
this kind of audio fix seriously makes it sound just as if you were there! Like, this is exactly what it sounds like when at a concert! The only difference is the bass is usually more powerful and it is much louder, but the actual sound is the same!
Some good bass skull candys can do the trick.
@@officialjoe1156 my dude; skull candy is dogshit
What a concert!!!!
Lane is the best rock/grunge singer of the world.
I still remember where i was when i heard he was found dead in his house! miss you, man!!!
Never heard a singer with Such a vocal as you.
R i p my friend
I too remember where I was. And at the age of 52 I can say that there are only a few times in history where I know where I was at the moment I heard the news: Space shuttle, 911, Layne's death are the only ones that I remember!! Devastating news! Couldn't wrap my brain around how such a talented, gorgeous, successful person could not be missed for two weeks! Took his accountant to notice that there was no activity from him to sound the alarm. I don't care how much he pushed people away, someone had should have know he was in dire straits and kept in touch. Maybe too painful to watch him waste away.
Jeff Buckley, Elliott Smith and Shannon Hoon are aslo on the same level as Staley. Not only of 90's, but of all time. Insane voices.
Layne*
He broke his foot or leg once im sure he was prescribed some sort of opiate medication for his injury that didn't help matters
@@justinebroderick8358 he started before that. He was started using when his girlfriend Demri couldn't score coke so she was offered Heroin instead and took it. The rest is history.
Layne is so perfect.... The raw distortion of his voice makes my head tingles... His chest voice gets me on my knees every time, it's so powerful, a freith train with no brakes just full speed!!!! Crazy, mind blowing!!! And is speaking voice is so soft, childlike..... Magic, pure magic with this man every time.... Otherwordly singer... We all miss you Layne...
Thank god these men were born!
Amen...... bella'
What an incredible front man! Powerful Layne Staley
I've been watching this concert every day it's like I'm In a trance. Some days I watch it 3 to 4 times this crowd don't know they are hearing the greatest band and singer just firing on all cylinders!! Layne is feeling it and keeps looking at Jerry like we are on it tonite never seen him really do that and they toured constantly with being burnout.
I was actually there🤘🏻
Right there with you. Probably the best one I’ve found. Sound is great and Layne is on absolute fire. Never gets old.
We didn't deserve Layne....RIP my friend, thanks for getting me through the bad times.
Effortless powerhouse voice! Just wish Layne was still around. I can only imagine how many more soulful songs
would have came from his voice!
Layne could have sang "Old Mcdonald had a farm" and it would have been epic.
It's very rare to catch lightning in a bottle the way the Layne years did!
18:18 is a gift from the gods through Staley
I used to think dredlock Layne was prime Layne .... i was wrong, this is prime Layne ... imagine if he stayed sober.. this guy was so naturally talented
Reminds me somewhat of Jordan’s career before his break in ‘93, and his return in ‘95 up until his retirement in ‘98. Before retiring, Jordan was a freakish force, amongst many other things, known for hanging in the air for inordinate periods of time and jumping from freethrow line to slam home dunks. That really wasn’t him anymore when he came back, but he transformed his game some, and was still undoubtedly a god amongst men.
Layne from 90-91 (dreaded Layne) was like that version of Jordan. I’ll single out the performances at the Moore (‘90), The Marque in Dallas (‘90), and Miami (Summer of ‘91) as demonstrations of Layne at the height of his powers, as an undeniable freak of nature like Jordan was during those years.
Layne from ‘92-‘93 was still a beast, but it seems like he swapped some force for greater finesse and technicality with his voice, like a fighter who couldn’t hit as hard as he once did, but whose comprehension went up, so his overall ability as a fighter increased too.
MITB is a great case study to zero in on. He effortlessly blasts through the chorus in all three of the concerts I listed above, but as early as ‘92 began to sound somewhat strained and like he was pushing during the chorus. It was around this time that he started to change up the chorus too, which I’m not sure if that had more to do with finding a creative way to go easier on his voice, reinventing it for the sake of giving it a new spin, because he had grown bored with the song (he did call it “the mandatory crowd pleaser” in ‘96 I think it was), or some combination of those three. He switched up the chorus some in this concert, but my favorite example is the one they performed in Osaka in ‘93. His vocals don’t soar like they in ‘90/‘91, but it still comes across like an artisan who’s refined and mastered his craft enough to be able to bend the rules to his will. Very cool version. Very very different from the studio version.
It really is a tragedy that he couldn’t kick the drugs, yes, absolutely. Chris Cornell sounded perhaps his very best all the way up to his final years. I’m sure Layne could have done likewise. Bless him for being as prolific as he was while he was here though.
@@Adrian101882 Good assessment, spot on! But I don't think Cornell's voice was anywhere near the power or timbre it was in his 90-92 prime.
@@augustblood6810 I should go back then and study Chris’ voice more carefully over the years. I don’t know the evolution of his voice as well as I do Layne’s. Is there a more or less agreed upon timeframe when his voice clearly began to dip or was it a slow, gradual decline over time?
@@Adrian101882 it was a gradual decline which you can hear on each subsequent album, rather like an old vinyl record that decreases slightly in high frequency with each play. You can hear his voice getting more strained and also more studio production to bolster it. His peak was 91-92 on Temple of the Dog and Badmotorfinger, with the last great performance on Audioslave's first album. But he was a giant of a vocalist up to the mid 2000s.
This is one of their best performance his voice is tip top I just love his voice and personalty I just started probably not even a year ago and I'm very well hooked
Absolutely love what Layne sings at the end of Them Bones. My favorite version.
Best group EVER...RIP Layne and Mike
Just when I thought there couldn't be a better group than Nirvana, I came across this and, boy, am I overwhelmed!!! This absolutely kicks ass.
Yep. I love Nirvana but AIC is on another level
@@rsohlich1 nirvana is about one of the most overrated acts in history in my opinon ... i mean they got maybe a hand full of good songs but mostly just soooooo boring
AIC instantly rushed above all my favourite bands of 24 years they are just so talented song writers
nirvana took the "simplicity" too far .. like waaay to far ... it´s music for dull people
Only just got into Alice ,as love Nirvana ,now I know what I have been missing!!!
AIC and Soundgarden are the two best bands to come out of Seattle. Why don’t 7 billion people realize this?
Wow, the versions of Rooster and Angry Chair here are the best live ones I've heard.
I think Glasgow 93 and Seattle Center 92 are the best performances of Rooster but that’s only my opinion 🤘🏽
Exactly, here Rooster sounds perfect💗
... I had another listen to it, and yes, it's an amazing version ❤️👌🎵🎤🎶
Such a Epic Performance, Fantastic!
it's good to see the band at this peak of form, especially Layne! Powerful!
Such a flawless performance. Was always one of my faves. 👌💜 you could tell Layne was having an awesome fucking time.
Amy Lynn my fav performance. Amazing concert❤️
@@TheHagen83 listen to Glasgow Barrowlands... my favourite although this is up there too.
Im 39 now. Laynes voice never bores me or seems contrived. The absolute best. What a gifted guy. The rest of the band is absolute fire as well. Long live Alice in Chains!!! 🎸♥️
How incredible!! Seeing these guys play makes me wanna be a rock star so bad!! This is an awesome performance and I love Layne's stage presence. Rock on wherever you are. As Ozzy says, "I'll see ya on the other side..."
The POWER in that voice! He can belt correctly leaning back and using his chest voice, those B4 B4 B4 B4 he can hold just shows wow! 🥰 what a talent we lost! 😢
My 2 favorite singers of all time is this man here and Maynard James Keenan thank God we still have Maynard rest well Layne u will never be forgotten such a talented man gone too soon
this is a good one! it's a hell of a thing , the 90's had some awesome bands. they used substances to fuel them. The things that fueled them eventually took them physically or mentally. we literally lost a generation of music. I look at what the kids have today and it's sad. I see kids blaring R&B and pop songs with their windows down and it sucks.
Layne was ON that night!
Layne looks so healthy here and has a more powerful voice than ever - maybe the effects of going to rehab?
He was sober in early ‘93 but relapsed when he broke his leg and got on pain meds.
@@sklarks8279 He broke his leg in 1992 tho
@@TheStepmonkey he broke his leg in ‘92, then he went to rehab. After leaving rehab he went to Mark Lanegans place to get high. The encounter is in Mark Lanegans Autobiography.
@@sklarks8279
Exactly. He would get high and drunk almost every single day during this particular tour. ✌️
Makes my heart ache comparing this to the unplugged just 3 years later. The way he's looking over at Jerry here, still connecting as friends, still light in his soul, and enjoying himself. By 96, that was gone. 😢 Lost a beautiful man, so heartbreaking because he seemed so kind, humorous, and his voice sounded like the heavens were opening up. 💔
the first thirteen minutes, they are a shot in the face, he does not let him breathe. Awesome performance
really cool hearing them open with dam that river, such a powerful song, amazing setlist for this gig.
to me layne is the most beautiful man i've seen till this day, he had the spirit of a lion. i wish i was in my 20s back then but at 93 i was 1 year appart of being born. best fucking band along with the doors and morphine, well...in reality i love many other bands but the list is long, anyway i am now here for aic and they knew how to rock, we are keeping their sound alive by still listening to them, i think its a beautiful relationship, maybe somehow layne and mike are aware of the big amount of love we feel for them, they gave us their soul and their sound will burn bright at least until i die.
BTW....why are there only 781 views on this full performance, a gift that's priceless to most of us?? And 21 likes?? Since May 2012?? Wow...
What a fuckin badass of a singer lol , this was a good year for them
Man, Layne being clean from the junk here makes me so happy. He was on fire.
I think he started using Heroin again in a big way the following month. Shame.
Layne has the best range in his voice of any artist to date.
RIP Brother.
So True
@@magnusodinson8834 I love Layne and he's my all time favourite, but I think Chris Cornell in his prime had a bigger range.
@@augustblood6810 No he didnt. He started using at the end of the year (november i believe).
Many thanks for that, it's one of the best live!

The sound is fantastic. A great recording. You can really hear the thunderbass and the nuances of Layne's haunting and poetic voice. Drums are clear and of course Jerry is badass Jerry. Yeah to the 'Dam of Amsterdam XXX!

34:20 Best part, Layne sounds like a freakin lion 😱👏
The whole band is in top shape, but Layne especially...fuck!
One of their best performances I've seen..very great line up
I was there! So great to find this. Before AIC the Screaming Trees played. What a concert, what a memory.
Anyone catch Jerry's little glitch @33:56? Better yet, the LOOK Layne gave him lmfao...then he just BLASTS out that YEAH & u could hear a pin drop (that is IF u could still hear after that badass shit!). U can tell Jerry's sick tho, he's one hot mess lol- tho NONE HAWTER THAN LAYNE, THE MACHINE. 🔥🚒
Julie.... hilarious ! But " U know he gonna die... " This nite this band this Song.... LAYNE was perfect So let's give Jerry's hangover a break here. IT ALLllllll INCLUDING SEAN yumm yumm. @@bellabell5655 I've had the CD bootleg for years and never knew there was video! Brilliant. One of the best performances for sure. I don't think there's a video of the Osaka show, would have liked to see that.
I feel like this is the first time out of all the live performances I've seen of them where Jerry messes up. I'm sure he has, but It's few and far in between.
what I would do to be in my 20’s throughout the 90’s

Good?????jesus....
We love u Layne. The greatest of all time. Never forgotten
I think this gig is one of best performances from Laney Staley ever.
27:28 his voice😮
Who ever recorded this thank you great sound my new favorite AIC concert. Sometimes you forget what a great singer Layne was. Really the whole band was awesome and always have been!!!
Yes!!! This is a great one. Oakland 92 is my fave. It's on my channel also. Thanks for watching 🤘
Man that was quick I know this sounds lame but I stopped listening to AIC when Layne died even though I love Jerry,Sean and Mike. I finally watched the whole unplugged all the way through. I got teary eyed when I heard Black gives way to Blue about Layne. I wish I could put into lyrics what Jerry did and he never really says anything negative about Layne which I totally respect him for that.
One thing I say about AIC continuing with Will is that it has brought new people to Layne. I don't listen to their new stuff, but I am grateful they continued.
I got a new AIC friend cool I got to see them twice once by accident they opened for VH when Sammy was the singer and I only new man in the box but they rocked it with the house lights on know light show. Lollopolosa what a joke Janes Addiction headlined they had to follow AIC which is wrong in every way wish I could replay it in my head but I destroyed too many brain cells.
Jerry really never said anything that Layne hadn't said or sung about himself is what I meant and Jerry always said the whole band were going through substance abuse issues of one thing or another.
AMAZING audio...
i love this concert, they were having a really good time.
"I like your coffee bars...." ;D
Yummy! I love dutch Herb
thanks for the video, what a show
This show is great. Good pace, Layne in a good shape. Wonderful!
what a great show!! Layne
How I wish we could have a 1080p on this!
Can’t understand what he means when he’s saying “pipe down babe, I got the floor!” 😂
Hands down the absolute SEXIEST Layne has ever been (not including Mad Season performances) and my version of 'getting off' is the impact of the immeasurable power seen in this show all from Layne! Seriously..he may as well have been up on stage alone bc I highly doubt anybody was checking any other members out! Who'd want to the way Layne looks here AND delivers! Just amazing...for a lack of any other words not created yet bc until Layne came around, we didn't need them...JS
Yep..... Iszzi' bell I love emo Soooooo much. This Show was PERFECT. IT MAKES ME SAD IF I THINK 2 MUCH OF THE LAYNE & STARR DAYS OF PASS.... Bella

oh yeah..and hilarious thru out this entire show as well. who didn't get that "AWWWWW" sensation creep up during Man In the Box and dude running behind Layne on stage!!??? Layne tho, just does his thing and goes with it and has fun with it! He was laughing so hard that he was trying to cover his face, while not missing one beat or lyric??!! As if?? PERFECTION IN THE PUREST AND MOST HUMBLE WAY! For me also it's that "innocent" quality about him that makes u just wanna take him and mommy him ;)
