  • Let's learn about some MUSHROOMS! They tend to call under four different categories being; Discosoma, Rhodactic, Ricordea, or Pseudocorynactic. Mushrooms are great for beginners because they are very hardy and they do not require high end LED lights to take care of them. They live primarily off filter feeding, but can also increase growth by spot feeding them different coral foods.

    The mushrooms that I used to have in my 90 gal, looked a lot like the disco reds like what you show, in the video. After I added an in-tank refugium, they all moved to the corner underneath it, because I had metal halide lighting hood. The just preferred the corner where the light wasn't very bright. They also got much larger quickly after they moved.

    Thanks for the reply on stocking order in my aquarium. Keep up the vids on the corals and fish. One things needed is the price point of the fish or coral please have links of website you are able to the low prices you mentioned. Most the time i dont see anywhere sell at those prices. Idc if they are even out of stock, just hook us up with the links please thanks

    • @BrockLeonard
      @BrockLeonard  4 года назад

      I'd recommend putting the frag plug near a rock at the bottom instead of removing. That way it won't float around the tank.

    Hi Brock, that is a very complete video about mushrooms. Definetly they are one of my favourite corals. I would like to ask you a question. I hace a green rodactis and very often it expulse its guts out of its mouth. Do you know why this happens? Greetings from México!!

    • @BrockLeonard
      @BrockLeonard  3 года назад +1

      Digestion tends to be the cause of it. Are you feeding them often? Sometimes too much feeding can cause them to stick out that portion of their mouth. I would also check parameters. High salinity and high nitrates can be the cause as well.. Thanks for coming out to watch!!

    I never realized mushrooms were venomous! Do they have stinger tentacles or do they put out venom? I keep losing them because I get them small and they just float away. I have thought they were attached but I guess not. How do you keep that from happening? I have had a box and let them attach to rock inside it and then placed in tank and they still end up floating away and never to be found again! I love mushrooms but have heard many reef keeper say they will quickly take over! How can you prevent that as well?

    • @BrockLeonard
      @BrockLeonard  2 года назад

      Their skin can release a toxin that will hurt surrounding corals. Reef glue is a great choice for mushrooms, it is one of the only ways we can get the mushrooms to stay on the rock long enough before they decide to move. For preventing a takeover, you will want to have a rock that does not touch any of the other rocks, forcing them to not send babies to new rocks to spread.

    I just got a ricordea Yuma and am unsure about the placement. I have a 20 gal cube water box with 1 AI prime 16. I have him towards the bottom but seems like he’s getting too much flow. Any suggestions? Lights on full intensity 6 hours with 80% being highest intensity.

      Is there less current toward the corners of your tank? I do not think it would hurt to put him someone very calm, even if it had to be higher up in the tank.

    Hey boss, Been following for a while. I am ready for my first coral. I am running a c- ray 200 LED. I really want one but scared that it take over my tank. Any suggestions on when to clip or take care of. I am having difficulties finding coral care. I know about elements and such, but like coral care as in maintaining like a lawn lol. I am just afraid and figured this would be the first step towards the goal.

    • @BrockLeonard

      I would recommend rock placement be your biggest concern. For the mushrooms, place them on a rock that is not touching any other rocks around, that way they are forced to populate only that one.

      It is definitely possible. Put it as far to the edge as you can so they will want to grow in a downward pattern.
