Always was if you have a family. This update just took it up another level. Next step would be to increase the library to all titles available on ps premium. Final step :- all purchased games.

Let me be blunt: unless it's a digital download or better yet they make a version with a cartridge port and make games physically available it's not worth it imo as streaming games/cloud gaming is a turnoff imo.
The portal would work great for me cause I ride 2 buses and a subway to work…unfortunately I live in Philly and I would get robbed in a heartbeat whippin that out on public transportation lol
I want to get a PS5 primarily for Astro Bot and Black Ops 6. Even though I have a PC and handheld devices, I really want to play Astro Bot, and I don't see it being ported to PC anytime soon. It's December 2024, and I can purchase a 2TB PS5 Pro for $700 right now. Additionally, I would need to buy the PlayStation Portal and the games, which would bring the total to around $1,000. My question is: is it worth it? I really enjoy handheld devices because I go to dialysis, and they help me pass the time while I sit in the chair for three and a half hours.
I got a Portal day one it was cool and I was able to watch a game and play PS5 I said we would get this in time and blu tooth I am sure is coming also with the use of an adapter I am very happy but with the 120 games Sony put out only one or two I liked hope they update that soon with more RTS ,turn based and sports.

@tchlin I bought it in Walmart, tested it while there, didn't work. I also tested the PS plus with my PC and got a "Country not Supported" even though I'm in the US. It's 2024 and this is still happening, it's pathetic
Ps portal is finally what it should have been at launch, still useless since my phone does all the same and is more stable since it use its own internet and not rely on wlan. But now if you was hassle gree experience you can get it with portal atleast
I'm definitely going to buy the PlayStation 5 portal and I'm definitely going to make sure my son has it for his Christmas gift that's why I don't have to buy a full-on PlayStation console
@tshaolin971 my son doesn't like home consoles he pretty much plays mostly on PC or Nintendo switch, so I might as well introduce him to the PlayStation ecosystem using a handheld instead since he likes handhelds and with the recent update now allowing people to buy this console without a needing to buy a PlayStation 5 it's possible

I've been using Chiaki4deck on the Deck OLED, most recently for Loco Roco HD. Overall, it was a smoother experience, but in my experience, it's not without its problems. It has a smaller screen with letter boxing, albeit you can stretch it's screen. I dont like stretching though Chiaki4Deck also disconnects randomly for me. I do like its HDR. I wish Portal had HDR To your question though, yes I've been using a third party option

The portal has always been able to be used outside of the home since it launched. As long as the Portal is connected to a good wifi connection. Best setup is having your PS5 connected to ethernet on standby at home while you're away.
