HI Jonathan I agree if you want that club feel.. Having come from the Original RX then RX2 to the XZ it was very difficult for me to go backwards to the RX3 although it was a needs must and the need to “Drop the Condo and go for a bungalow” situation where portability without the reduction in features was key for me.. Loved the XZ and still have it’s coffin in the Garage, but the RX3 is the standalone version of the DDJ800 I was craving for.. As you always quite rightly say, “It’s what works for you”.
Thanks for another great video brother..

Pioneer won't bring out an XZ2 until' the CDJ3000s are on their way out, and onto the CDJ4000 (or whatever they're gonna' call it). The XZ didn't come out until' about a year before the 3000s were released. Pioneer are NOT going to cannibalize sales of their existing 3000s by bringing out an all-in-one unit that has nearly all of it's functions. They're simply NOT going to do it! If you are looking to get an all-in-one unit, just get an XZ now. Otherwise, you'll be waiting a few years (from the date of this post) for it's successor!!

Hi Ellaskins, I'm a longtime fan of yours and appreciate your contributions to the DJ community. I heard the sound quality of the RX3 is inferior to the RX2 on a forum and crappy overall on a forum. Would appreciate your thoughts on how it sounds. I bought one but haven't unboxed it since I'm thinking of trading for an XZ. I worry about the size, weight and smaller screen of the XZ as a mobile rig but the white version looks amazing.

I am the owner of the RX2 and there's not much on the RX3 that would make me upgrade. The RX2 does everything I need it to do and any limitations force me to be more creative. Yes, larger jog wheels would be nice but, at the price, there's a compromise. If I had a larger disposable income, I'd definitely go for the XZ.

I was going to buy it and I decided instead to get the DDJ-1000... I know you cannot compare them because this is a standalone controller, but seriously carrying a laptop to parties is not that much of a hassle. There's nothing about the RX3 that excites me....

If you have the RX2 I would agree with you that an upgrade is probably not worth it, although there are some notable good additional/improvements. However, if you do not have a potable unit and want one, this is the the perfect compromise between being portable and functional. De XZ is really a lot bigger, more expensive and most features added are only really important if you use more than 2 decks at once, otherwise the actual additional functionality is not perse worth the up over the RX3. RX3 seems to be the perfect middle ground for someone like me :)

Great Video Ellaskins, Indo find the build quantity of the XDJ-RX3 is lacking, my units both brand new arrived scratched up, the jog wheels and scratches, the screen bezel had deep scratches, the replacement which I had kept was better but still not perfect, some finer scratches around the control knob, but as you say in your video, this controller is NOT a replacement for a full DVS system, which I also own, it is however a great system that utilises many aspects of the full DVS feel, you could easily work on a club set up after using the XDJ-R2 and XDJ-RX3, perfect for home and small bar/club environment.

i went with the RX3 for two reasons:
    first, because the XZ technology is becoming obsolete as it’s based on the NXS2 and I don’t think it’s planned to be updated soon;
second, because I come from the DDJ 400 and although I’d need those extra features like feedback suppression, EQ on Master and other stuff, I recognize that for what I do and the usage I’m going to do, It would have been simply too much for me.

    • @bgstemcd

    • @francescog53550
      @francescog53550 2 года назад +4

@@bgstemcd gotcha ahaha. What I’m referring to is a kinda of “planned obsolescence” when products in the market get an update, it doesn’t consist of minor changes here and there, but there are immediately noticeable improvements specifically requested, so that the customers are more leaning to update their equipment, even if it’s perfectly working, just because it looks “old”.
With other stuff, especially turntables, yes they’re obsolete as they’re been around for ages, but they really stand out in terms of the music culture itself. For this reason, they’re still under production nowadays, with the latest technologies and improvements.

.... as a former owner of XDJ-XZ .... having used it for two years, I must admit that it is and remains the Flagship of the Pioneer DJ house, but the size and heaviness of carrying it around led me to consider the purchase of the RX3. I have to admit that the visual impact is already different ..... but it's not all shit as you might think ..... first of all it has a new processor that loads files with a third of speed compared to the XZ, it has a display in step with the times, it has a sound that is similar to the XZ, like the same effects .... plus you don't need a trolley to move it ..... guys not all evil comes to harm.

I’m with you, I think RX3 is the way to go in the sense that it’s the latest tech, it has the newest display look and feel. I’m not looking to play in any clubs anytime soon so the jog wheel won’t be an issue and besides I’ve never played on an XDJ RZ so I don’t know what I’d supposedly be missing. Correct?

This aged well. Still no XZ2 even announced 2 years later 😂
As a standalone controller this thing is second to none to any Dj who doesn’t care about playing on more than 2 decks. Anyone complaining about the jogwheels clearly hasn’t used it. They are responsive with adjustable torque, plenty big enough to serve their intended purpose, have displays on par with CDJ3000 jogs. The only difference is the size. Unless you’re a scratch DJ or a complete amateur this shouldn’t matter. Very few DJs use jogwheels to send off a track over hitting the play button. Any DJ worth their salt knows that riding the pitch until you have the mix locked is the pro way to do it, not using jogs or touching vinyl to adjust pitch.
I just upgraded from a pitiful entry level Numark to the RX3. I couldve afforded the XZ but the deciding factor was the bigger touchscreen with more features, better resolution and faster refresh rate and the additional features from the CDJ3000 not present in the older XZ model. This was far more important to me than bigger jogwheels (when I literally only ever use them to dial in a cue point in the rare event rekordbox analysis wasn’t accurate) or having 2 additional channels I don’t need. It’s also more portable and takes up less space in my small home studio room.
It’s the perfect unit for me, and I doubt they’ll release an XZ2 until there’s enough of a selling point to coax current XZ owners to upgrade, which won’t happen until they release a new gen of CDJs. If I owned an XZ already it’d take far more than a slightly bigger & better touchscreen to get me to pay out another 2 grand plus to upgrade
In short, aside from the extra 2 channels & slightly larger jogs, the XZ is the inferior and more dated unit for my needs. I buy my music so don’t need cloud music features to use streaming services. Streaming services are for cheapskates who’d rather line the pockets of tech billionaires than support their favourite artists. Never had a Spotify account and never will 🤷‍♂️
Beatport is a rip off compared to Bandcamp with limited downloads, extra cost for lossless audio and pay a smaller cut to artists, and are also owned by a shady corporation I can’t stand (LiveStyle / Live Nation / SFX Entertainment), who are essentially a venture capital group trying to buy up & monopolise everything in electronic music, so I’ve been boycotting them for as long as I can remember.
All I really cared about was getting a standalone unit with high end touchscreen capability. Because the Serato internal mixer sounds like ass, and the sound interface in my mixtrack platinum FX output some nasty hum on my Adam Audio 10” sub / 7” nearfield monitor setup. As soon as my library was analysed in RB, I uninstalled serato and will never look back 😂 honestly the XZ would feel like a downgrade for me personally from the RX3
The RX3 is the bollocks. And this video was pure clickbait. If you’d just said you wouldn’t buy it because you already own a last gen pioneer top end controller that cost more, I never would’ve even watched this stupid video lol
    Thankyou captain obvious 🙄

Due to how good the screen is, the RX3 is the closest controller to the standard Nexus pro set up. So if it's cheaper than the XZ, and closer to the pro gear, why on earth wouldn't you go for it? It being a bit smaller and lighter (imo) also helps. It's a great semi-pro bit of kit and bridges bedroom to club really well.

I do think pioneer might upgrade to a xz2 so in the meanwhile i can practice on a bit cheaper model with rhe newer tech to then upgrade to the newer version xz2 later on 🤷 hope that it gets a bigger screen because it’s much easier to read tacks on…

I was offered to close a party of over 5-6K people for a dj called erick morrilo in 2019 (RIP)

I ended up buying the xz recently since I get it for my pro Price and figured I might as well go with the xz since I got it for the same price as a new rx3 at regular pricing. With that said. I wish they made the xz in a two channel since the 4 channels are useless. the extra channels are dead weight and they make the xz half useless, bulky and super heavy for lugging around for gigs as fully rounded piece of equipment. The Benefit of the xz is that, you will have absolutely no problem or speed bumps “at all” when moving to cdjs at a club or a gig with a permanent set up.

@@mallkrawlerz620 Thx for your explanation, I have a ddj-rx atm and only use those other 2 channels for my mic and aux (both seperate on rx3) so I know I'm not going to use the other channels. So as far as I see the only difference is the screen (and formfactor) and I really don't care about the price of my gear (rx3 is around $250 cheaper in my country), it's an investment and I'd reather buy good stuff than cheap out. So in my mind id reather go with the bigger screen, because im used to the bigger screen of my laptop and the new functions this screen brings.

Does the RX3 have a rumor of totaly Freezing... ramdomly?
It happened to me last time i was playing last week. Played for 4 hours... then... the last 40 min BOOM! The unit wasnt able to turn off, even. We hade to pull the power cable to restart it.
I googled around and it seems like many are asking for solutions on this same issue.
Is it just the firmware that needs to be up to date? (Its not my own gear... so its up to the venue to do that in that case. If im not asking to do it for them offc). Or is it due to corrupt files? And... if its corrupt files. How come Rekordbox doesnt recognize that there might be something wrong with the files... (bought on Beatport by the way). OR..... is it just cheep components inside the machine?

don't listen to any of the reviews. All biased and not fair. You have to go test out the kits - see what feels better to you. Check out rekordbox and engine. Decide if streaming more important or beat and sound fx. All these decisions will decide what is best FOR YOU. All this bashing of equipment is bs. I use both denon and pioneer and each is better at what they do - but me as the dj and the gig/music I am playing, style of gigs etc determine what I need. I prefer my pioneer gear but at times denon comes in handy. You will know what fits best once you can answer these questions. You cant go wrong with any modern controllers nowadays. That is the truth. So again dont listen to the whiners who say pioneer sucks, behind the times. They have a specific niche and kill it. Denon finding its niche and doing well there too.

U can connect it to rx3 but it will be tricky, probably you wold need to connect it directly between RX and your speakers, because there is No send out. On The other hand the XZ dont have the send/return loop so you cant plug it directly to XZ but you could plug it to spare chanel and have full control on samples from RMX.

With the Prime 4 its achillies, is it doesnt switch from standalone to Laptop seemlessly so awkward for weddings and backups, plus the build isnt the best and jog wheels all over the place, the prime 2 is great value at £1000 at the moment, but you have to use Engine OS with it, another peice of software to get the grips with, not rocket science but still another software. The reality is, If you want to get into clubs its pioneer only. If you want tthe club jog feel, then its XZ, the SRT1000 or rekordbox version is great but it doesnt give you practice with USB stand alone mixing.
The reality is the XZ does it all... yes its big, but its one device that does it all. I can't bare buying a 1000 and a Rx3 at £3000 vs XZ £2000 and having better built in effects than both put together. Let alone better pre amps, better sound and more flexibilities. Serato, Rekordbox and Standalone. even works with VDJ too. Plus DVS etc etc Those jog wheels alone are worth it and when the time is right you can go full club mode off one use and record to the other regardless of music source, the microphones control too... plus an AUX... seriously. Its where its at... not many XZ owners moving to Prime 4, but plenty coming back to pioneer from Prime 4... The prime 4 is a great wedding setup with inputs, but its still heavy. I use a Roland DJ707m, has all the connectivity and Zone output you will ever need, plus Mic's, Aux, built in effects, drum machine for redrumming old track, sampler etc etc. its just personal preference. The XZ can always come to play when im feeling stong, but reality is you only lift it to the car on wheels in the case and lift it out the case at the venue... If you are playing with Subs, its not even the heaviest thing you will be sorting out.

This aspect of DJing is really embarrassing lol as someone who leveraged aesthetics all the time for promotion. Lol
I will absolutely take function over aesthetics tho.
Maybe enter a gig with a little more skill or add like an MPC sampler or something.
I feel like there are better ways to take up real estate and make yourself feel more confident about the value of our art form.
I produce and sing and I’m a multi instrumentalist. But I’m second to few as a Dj and my skills stand alone.
The way we convince each other to get less for our money or spend more is ridiculous. If a club wants club gear they can go out and buy some 3000s.
Guarantee you’ll likely get more money from a club that’s got an xz or 3000s there’s than one that’s gonna make you bring your own mixer & CDJs lol
