    Awesome build Mac! Would be really interested in a video talking about your thoughts on the Z cam over the FX6. I'm currently shooting on pocket 6k's and have been looking to upgrade to the FX6 for a lot of the handy usabilty features it offers but I worry the image doesnt have that extra "thickness" (I think you'll know what I mean by that) that the blackmagic/Zcams etc have.

    • @dna8269
      @dna8269 3 года назад +1

      Sony for utility, workflow, and quickness. ZCAM/BMPCC for image quality. There's some saucy FX6 footage out there by some skilled colorists and also some good footage with those using more expensive glass (Moji Wilson/Bandoescamera), but you're going to have an easier time getting that 'look' you're talking about SOOC with the other cams.

    • @MacOlink
      @MacOlink  3 года назад +2

      Thanks! I came back to the Z Cam for a few reasons. Image quality & price (theres more to it. I plan on making a video explaining soon). But those 2 are really the key factors why I sold the FX6. The FX6 is a sick camera, BUT I didnt see too much of a difference in image quality between my A7Siii and the FX6. To me, paying $6k for an a7siii in a cinema body wasnt really worth it. I think Z Cam has a better image than both the A7S and the FX6.

    How do you feel about the focus throw on the Meike + full frame as a solo operator? Ever have any issues pulling focus or missing shots? I like the full frame look but tend to find S35 easier to nail focus..was wondering if you've had the same experience or not

    • @MacOlink
      @MacOlink  3 года назад +1

      The long focus throw I didnt like much at first. But I am getting used to it now and honestly starting to really love it! Ive been shooting Sony full frame for years with vintage glass, so Im used to pulling focus on full frame. I miss focus here and there, depending on what it is im shooting. But I dont mind if the subject falls in and out of focus sometimes. Can add character to the look imo.

Today's July 2022; I'm considering investing in a Z cam like the one you show here, and I was wondering if I will also need to upgrade/update my computer for the 4K/6K editing side of this new gear. I'm currently using a Dell with Intel i7, SSD hard drive and plenty storage room for Premiere Pro.
    Any tip or advice greatly appreciated! (and IF I will require a new system, what will you suggest/recommend?) New to your channel, thank you so much!

    Sweet rig! How do you find using the BM5 iii? I'm having trouble calibrating the screen to show what the camera is actually outputting. Like it doesn't quite match when I import and apply the same LUT. The BM5 seems to have a lot more contrast (and no, lowing the contrast setting in the screen settings doesn't help match the footage.)

    • @MacOlink
      @MacOlink  3 года назад +4

      Lol. Talking head is shot on A7Siii. If it was z cam it would be WAY cleaner. Also, RUclips compression makes all shadows muddy in pretty much every video. I’d also consider myself to be pretty decent at grading. 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • @dna8269
      @dna8269 3 года назад

      Referring to zlog, that's an exposure and grading thing my dude. I've noticed many people aren't aware of how light hungry zlog is. You're better off overexposing (with respect to not clipping highlights severely) and bringing it down in post. The shadows won't be an issue.
