Love only goes as far as their money and knowledge will allow, sadly. Without many of them realising it they're greatly abusing their horses if its the bit, hard hands, bad riding, bad training methods, etc.

So the likelihood of them eating them is extremely low as it isn't worth the money. Horses are a pretty pricey as well as they're regarded as work/pleasure animals. Donkeys are more popular in Africa than horses are which makes horses more of a luxury.

Again horses really aren't as common as work animals in Africa as they can be costly and more prone to denigration. Work animals in Africa aren't usually owned by people who kill their own food but the working class. By the time their work animal dies of old age or whatever there really isn't much meat on them and they can be infected with diseases so the meat is unstable. Not to mention they're views as a pet in a way.

Destination Addiction Samsara yes but chad probably has more horses than any single state or even the entire country of the US, which was probably not the case about two centuries ago. Stay focused on the declining animal population in your own modern country and raise questions about what is going on there and leave people alone who still have thriving animal husbandry practices that have sustained them for centuries. They must be doing something worthwhile than any other modern country that has a dwindling animal population (except for the dogs that they greatly euthanize every year)!

Donkeys and horses can be forced to carry more weight than they should, they can also carry more weight if they're wearing special tack (packing tack) that helps distribute the weight on their back so its not all placed on one point. French did not bring horses to Chad. There are far more horses in Chad than in France. Horse cultures in Africa go back thousands of years, particularly in the Sahel belt below the Sahara. Also the horse breeds in Africa are not the same as those in Europe. Indigenous African horses are 'barb' type and are much more athletic and intelligent than native European horses but they don't grow as big as European horses.
