18. Egypt - Fall of the Pharaohs

- Far in the distance, three colossal shapes tower over the desert horizon…
In this episode, we travel to the Nile Valley, and tell the story of one of the most iconic cultures ever produced by humankind - the civilizations of ancient Egypt. I want to show how this series of related cultures grew up in the floodplains of their great river, and built some of the most enduring and recognizable structures in the world. And I want to tell the story of what happened to bring the age of the Pharaohs finally and cataclysmically to an end.

The best History series regarding ancient empires ever produced.
Oh yes, easily. FoC puts mainstream/legacy media outlets to shame. The History Channel is too busy producing dumb series about pawnshops or whatever…but who cares when there are brilliant people who clearly love history creating masterpieces like this series- that anyone can enjoy for free on RUclips/spotify/etc. I hope the producer(s) of this channel know how widely beloved their work is.
1000% agree
@@h0rriphicprobably my third favourite history channel on RUclips. Best in terms of entertainment value but not quite up there in amount of historical information

Unlike many other podcasts where the speakers always seem to be in a hurry, yours is a breath of fresh air with its calm, relaxed and enjoyable presentation.
Exactly! I fully agree! Paul's presentation, gentle pace and cadence is beautifully mesmerising....and the tale he conveys just seeps into you.

My one problem with the channel is that he tlks to slowly it's just annoying.
Paul Cooper is the David Attenborough of ancient history! These documentaries are incredible, and his voice is so soothing and iconic 🙌
I've been checking the channel for this video every single day since the audio version was posted. What a day! Thank you Paul! your big fan from Baku, Azerbaijan.
Thank you, I hope you enjoy.
Awesome channel🙏🏼 we appreciate the work you put in:)
Me too. Glad I'm not the only one so obsessed. Excellent series!
Me too, i already have listened to it several times.
Don't mind us, Paul Cooper. We're just junkies itching for our next fix, lol.
My day just got BRIGHTER, whenever Fall of Civilizations uploads a documentary.
Yes! Always a great day when he releases a new podcast. I've been checking my subscriptions every day for the past few weeks to see if this latest chapter on Egypt had arrived. And today, the magical little dot appeared next to Fall of Civilizations. What a triumph for Mr. Cooper; a massive 4 hour documentary in addition to the release of his newest book.
Now for some food and drink to savor the next 4 hours!
Same!
It has been on spotify since Feb 1! But I envy you for having a new episode now 😊

"Fall Of Civilizations" is truly one of the greatest channels on RUclips. Superior productions of the most interesting of subjects. I wish these were the videos they showed us in school.
These videos always humble me as they are reminders of just how fragile our current civilization is. The world we know today is just a couple hundred years old. The Egyptian civilization lasted 3000 years!!!🤯
Not one of, it is THE BEST!
I was just thinking about how I got more out of 4 hours of RUclips than I did through the same amount of the subject being discussed in World History class in 10th grade. I think it's because in school, they're more concerned with the names, the time periods, the dates. The things that can be be tested in multiple choice. Whereas with this narrative, those things are included, but they are only part of the larger story of the rise and fall of the dynasties themselves. The whos and whats support the WHYs and the HOWS and those are the things that will help us remember.
One of the best series ever produced on RUclips
Agree I remember recommending this to people when I had only heard up to 2-3 or so.
It really is. I have watched and rewatched every episode multiple times and learn something everytime.
I agree
THE BEST ! ! !
Not only youtube but also tv or any other platform.
Its still unreal to me a documentary of this caliber, free and independently produced.
Paul Cooper is the man
And so the are the rest of his team

You know what I think is missing from these? Your voice. Not in the literal sense, your beautiful voice provides incredible narration, but in the figutive sense. I want to know what you learned, what you felt, what you experienced in the journey to learn about these histories, what insights you gained and what stories resonated with you. Pre-Islamic history of the Middle East is so under-rated. It's among the most interesting historical areas in the world. We need more content like this.
True - but this is Nile Valley. African history.
@andrewjohnson8232 The middle east is not only Arabia, but also Egypt as well as the Levant and parts of Anatolia. Remember Egypt's DNA roots share more in common with people's from those areas than say the peoples of Sub-Saharan Africa or even the Sudanese.
Well said could you imagine how much more beautiful the Middle East would be if the Most Peaceful religion on Earth never was cancerized!?

Four hours of Fall of Civilizations - Time well wasted.
Thanks for the straightforward well researched and thoroughly excellent storytelling.
Waste of time ? I think not I know you mean no harshness but I can't see it as a waste of time lol
@@blsfan1973I think he meant time went fast. I don’t think he put he’s point across properly. Because if something is a waste of time you wouldn’t watch it for four hours. Maybe.
To think that the video series is actually improving is mind boggling, considering the level of quality that was already there. The most re-watchable videos out of all RUclips right here.
Utmost quality + asmr audio + vibrant visuals + vast knowledge + dedicated voice actors + great host = Fall of Civilisations

As usual, a feast on the mind, ears and eyes. The highest quality documentary series in all realms on RUclips. And RUclips of course compresses the video quality, even in 4K. I can't even imagine the uncompressed video quality!! That computer hardware and file storage costs must be off the charts so this is some more of my money to contribute towards that!
As a history major i personally always prefer history from which a solid written and even photographic record exists. The further back you go the fewer non archeological details are solid. But your channel sp perfectly weaves narration based on all available sources it makes the ancient stuff approachable. Superb.

I listened to this on the podcast. The only problem becomes waiting for the next one.
I've always found that this channel is the best in so many ways! I cannot thank you enough for the accuracy with which you endeavour to convey your narration, the best representation of facts, how measured and reasonable you are in dealing with the controversial parts of history and how informative you are, kudos! Long may it continue.
This is the best day ever ❤❤❤ YES! Thank you Coop.
I watch RUclips more than I probably should; however, even with literally hundreds of subscriptions, this may be my favorite channel. (It is even *imho* one of the best channels, which is a different thing altogether which does not necessarily overlap.)
Although the wait was/is difficult, I *definitely* prefer to wait for it to be done right with care. As a former software engineer I understand the economics of TTM ("Time To Market") and cash flow etc. But I believe that over the long term any immediate/temporary losses from a slow release in order to perfect the quality will be more than compensated in the long term with positive word-of-mouth and grass-roots channel support.
Plus (and imho most importantly) you are doing a great service to humanity at large by sharing the most accurate representation possible of our history and shared identity/place in the universe. All this told in such a compelling and exciting narrative...which results in even more sharing and understanding, culminating in the most wonderful human capacity: empathy.
...All of this juxtaposed over the bleakest, unfair, and nihistic setting/backdrop imaginable. This epiphany in the midst of a worldwide contradiction is almost Hegelian in its dialectic.
...phew! I hope that made sense. I am a clunky writer at the best of times.
