A story stretching back for generations, it's the horse's breeder, Rick Jamieson, who has ultimately cultivated a world champion thoroughbred. "This is the dream of every breeder who ever conjured together the bloodlines and produced a foal." But Black Caviar's success isn't simply down to genetics: it has involved a lot of money, a lot of expertise and years of dedication."Black Caviar is one in a million". But how long can her winning streak continue?

That owner/ breeder is wonderful! Not taking credit himself, showing heart felt thanks to his staff.
Phar Lap was such an imposing horse - I'm reminded every time I see a picture or video of him. Monstrous.
There's so many horses abused in racing, but, there's also many that are taken great care of. I have an OTTB that his registration is stamped with no auction/ slaughter seal and they would Gladly take him back if something happened and he did terrible on the track. I also know someone who their OTTB had a major career ending injury and the breeder took her back to retire for life, keep in mind that she was only 7, and my friend goes and visits the mare every month. So not all racing is bad. The breeders/trainers I am talking about also won't race them until they are four.
Brilliant, brilliant girl. She and her Mom are worth all the stars in the heavens
@@karalarson8168 doesn't work like that.
@@karalarson8168 too bad they didn't freeze that boy's sperm...!
i have her as my background and I didnt even know who she was now I can't get enough of her
A Filly!? I'm so happy, sorry I am late to learning of this story. Gods speed
Yes, filly. She won 25 of 25 races.
21:24 Rick Jamieson, 22:15 that man's got heart, Real Heart.
I know a man who deep down believed he would bred a GOOD Show Jumper and he did. Terence Harvey bred Liscalgot the 2002 World Champion of show jumping.
You most love your Sport and Love what you do.
RIP precious girl.
!!!!!! Nice!!!! Thank you!!!!!
Yes she won at Ascot, but you left out the real story of that day, the horse won, she deserved to win, she was the better horse on the day, but what you forget to say was that she nearly lost the race, and the reason it was so close in the end was because the jockey stopped riding the horse, he was un aware of the danger of the fast finishing horse, Black Caviar so very nearly lost her perfect record due to human error.
I thought I was the only one that noticed that.
I wonder how they named the sausages they made out of their Black Caviar after they listed it as "retired", as all these horse factories do.
It's so very moving watching these psychos describing the horse with tears in their eyes... Awww... And then sell it for 200 AUD to a slaughterhouse ... 😪 So moving...
lived the rest of its life at a farm you moron
@@rob5615 Facts.
None. He’s alive and charged bank for stud fees. Maybe you should take time and google what you comment next time instead of being a complete idiot
What happens when they finish their racing career? Some of them end up as Horse meat for us and dogs
julian dilling true. Everyone included in the racing industry have somthing wrong with them mentally.
@@chrishale1345 Yup, true! Starting with the fact that they adore watching horses running in circles... Over... And over... And over...
@@wolfgang4043 it’s weird! And I agree.
Even responsible owners and trainers are a part of the problem. The Thoroughbred industry regularly cranks out literally tens of thousands of new foals each year, only a tiny percentage of which go on to earn their keep, and there are no guarantees even for those who do. (Google "Ferdinand"--a Kentucky Derby winner) Guess what happens to the rest? It's too awful to say, but involves a cattle truck and a trip to Canada or Mexico. The only ethical answer is to stop breeding so many animals and spend more resources finding good homes for the ones that already exist. What can you do? Adopt if you're qualified. Donate to rescue organizations if you can. Otherwise refuse to participate as a spectator in this ingratiating, abusive 'sport' whose time has past.
Epic comment, Bryan. Thank you.
The industry no longer 'cranks out' foals - over 90% of foals will race. More than ever are rehomed and retrained, and very very few are sent to slaughter
Based on your comments I assume you are from America. The US does not represent the Thoroughbred industry - no other country runs like the US does - so criticise that countries Thoroughbred operation, not the whole industry.
Because the industry has make ground breaking progress in the last decade in the thoroughbred industry surround horse welfare - you just may not be aware of it
Bryan, look at the stud books. Thoroughbred breeding is actually on the decline and every year less thoroughbreds are born. Not to mention the American Jockey Club (and other countries) have anti slaughter policies. Don't criticize something you don't know.
Bryan Krussow abusive?....wake your dumbass up, there are many other abusive “sports”.....YOU are part of the problem, quit crying and join a , rescue mission, or buy some horses, other than that , shut your stupid hole
KARA LARSON key word being "some"
Great man
i could work in a barn like that,,,geez Great filly ,compression blanket ,whata finish
What an unpleasant, quavering and nasal voice the narrator has!
Beautiful
Breeding without limits is irresponsible because these horses end up at auctions and go to slaughter houses. As soon as a horse or colt is deemed non profitable, they are likely auctioned off and end up on the plates of consumers. So tell the whole damn ugly story. All about greed.
That last race she almost lost. But it was not her fault,if you notice the jockey misjudged the finish line and was starting to pull up.I know the trainers had to catch that.If you watch closely the jockey was not sure where the finish line was.You also can see he stops riding and quickly notice he had not cross the finish line yet, then starts again and almost lost that race.
Phar lap the kiwi horse 🐴🇳🇿
Pretty sure I just watched an undercover story on 7/30 I believe it was, where black caviar was one of many thoroughbred and standardbred horses sent to a slaughter house.
You nailed it.
Horses in American (At least where I stand) aren't legally allow to sell, give, and hand over horses to the slaughter house. All retired thoroughbreds must be sold at the track with a vet check before departure and made sure racing papers return back to the Jockey Club if owner(s) choose that the new handler of the horse(s) can continue racing or not. Any owners/trainers/jockeys that sell the horse to a slaughter house buyer will be banned from all, if not all minority of tracks, and will have their licensed stripped and will be legally trialed.
She's worth millions as a broodmare so, no
Maybe if you took time to google what you commented you would’ve made a more informed decision. A 7/30 story on him? Says he’s alive and well… wonder what upside down world you live in
The horse business, all phases, have a cruel side. To many owners mistreat their horsr/horse. Being a horse owner ( thoroughbreds) I've seen the ugly side.
The soreing of saddlebreds/Tennessee walkers is barbaric.
Laws must be stricter.
I've seen ignorant owners abuse their horse.
These noble animals who serve us MUST BE PROTECTED.
If you could have bred Black Caviar to Secretariat boy what a horse you would have!
BlackCaviar was one of the greats.
Thats a good bwoaahh
Very powerful horse
she was not called Balckcarvier yet not untill the racing owners named there or trainers do some time
thoroubred breeding is a science now
doubleagent14 it's always been a science for good breeders not so much anymore, they over breed and inbreed to much. The careful selecting is a amazing art
According to this, yes...Yes it is.
doubleagent14 ه
Someone believe "over breed and inbreed to much" are good methods.
I believe over breeding, and I doubt inbreeding.
If it is such a science, why are twice as many horses breaking down (i.e.: having career ending or fatal injuries) as just 8 to 10 years ago?
Beautiful horse and all but too bad most of the horses go to slaughterhouses. Wonder if thats where she ended up.
No only the unsuccessful horses go to a slaughterhouse. If anything she was used as a brood mare at the end
Breed her to Galileo..
What is a black caviar horse?
Don't they mean the making of a race horse?. Thoroughbreds are born. It's a breed. Many don't race. I own thoroughbreds & foxhunt them. They're versatile, can do anything asked them..
11:10 "She's got an ass like a bus..." Words you don't hear often as flattery.
Im sorry... did he say "She has an @$$ like a bus"?!!! WTF?!!! They see this sentient being as an object. Gross 🤢
what happens to a thoroughbred when it can't run?
Re-homed to riders, showman, farmers, trained to do other things.
the mouth bit has got to go!!!
Bitless is better tho. If u pull too hard on the bit, it also pulls on the noseband a bit cause it "hard to breath" racing is only about money. The horses are treated like shit! I hate jokeys.
you fools are idiots! a bit is necessary to control 1500 lbs of "fast forward motion"
Come on kid, you haven't a clue how horse racing works
I use a bitless bridle on my OTTB; it took a little effort, but she handles like a dream.
Bryan Krussow thank you for showing that not all OTTBs need a big bit or a bit at all with some training
Oh lord! And the babies to be born!!!
The Aussies are clueless-consistency is different to greatness- none of Europe's top trainers have any interest in training sprinters-in America, they do-so if you want to be the world champion-go stateside.
That ride in the diamond jubilee was so bad. That is a real testament to how good this horse was.
@@karalarson8168 I was involved in blogging and advertising. I know a lot about the industry, not loads abiut the actual animal itself.

She's an amazing filly. But I believe Ruffian was the best of all time. RIP.

And all horses who doesn't run fast enough go to the slaughter I presume?
Nobody wants a looser. You can't sell them for recreative riding. So where do those go?
Very few go to slaughter. I have a thoroughbred who wasn’t fast enough, and he’s an incredible jumper. There’s always something for them.
No, many are retrained for showing or just hack. More non TB are found in slaughter. None are loser's!
Sadly they do go to slaughter. Even $400,000 ones that have won millions. It’s horrific. Investigation just came out. If you love horses it will horrify you. www.news.com.au/sport/explosive-730-investigation-exposes-brutal-slaughter-of-thousands-of-healthy-racehorses/news-story/eafb209900ad1c18a38b2062ad679381
what?
Got to love all the 10-14 year olds in the comments who've never worked a day in the racing industry claiming they treat their animals cruelly
Nothing wrong with racing a 2-3 year old horse. The horses are well prepared to begin their career by the age of 2.
I think the owners care of their winning. Therefore, they know which year of the horses are best for race. Do you think they are stupid?
I have never seen anyone use that method on a horse, no smart trainer would ever blindfold their horse for that exact reason, and most horses are rehabilitated.
Tanisha Kiteley MOST horses is quite the overstatement. If you look at the stats, MOST of the horses that “failed” at racing end up in slaughter. Heck, there are many videos up on RUclips that show people finding originally half a million dollar horses being auctioned off for upmost of $500 but at the least, $50. That is quite cruel and if you don’t think the sport itself is, the aftermath it creates for sure is.
Luck is 100% correct. Ask any vet. Horses don't stop growing until they are 3. Use prior to that (in particular, the extreme way Thoroughbreds are treated) is detrimental to their long-term health. Period.
Ugh using animals for money
what?
