"The Price of Evil: The Unforgiving Desert Butt Crack," Hear from legendary climbers Mason Earle, the first free ascent of POE and Mari Salvesen, first female ascent of POE, crack climbing experts who reflect on the Price Of Evil and the crack's difficulty and allure. The Price of Evil," a second pitch flared 15-foot roof that leads to a desperate flared lip encounter, culminating in a grueling 45-degree, overhanging, blue-collar grovel. This video then features a lighthearted free ascent of desert weirdo, tradprincess aka Mary Eden climbing the butt crack all while singing a crack version of grease lightning.

Idk why I but based on the way Mary always talks about him I did not expect Mason to look the way he does. He looks so unassuming for someone with such a hardcore reputation.
Mason is the sweetest soul but he also went so hard with climbing 😹

that is the buttest climb I've ever seen. You also really captured offwidth culture with the rampant displays of type 2 fun, that was great. That story at the end needed to be pixelated, dang.

I'm surprised to see a bolt up there at the cruxy bit. Maybe because the rope gets stuck on a cam when turning the lip?
From what I was told it was to stop the rope from messing or getting stuck in the cams. It does create gnar rope drag, I’d maybe think about extending it? Not sure. The gear faff on this route is super annoying. Bring a hammer to get cams unstuck when you go to clean.
No cams bigger than a #6 is needed.

I’d love to see that spreadsheet of offwidths! There’s not too many offwidths near me but the ones I’ve tried, I love and I’m desperate for some harder offwidths to try.

I've really enjoyed watching your OW journey - you have gotten much much tougher along the way.
My favorite part of offwidth climbing is how you never pin your rope between your body and the crack and get it stuck so that you can’t pull up the slack while your cam grins down at you mischievously as you slowly slide out of the crack.
So that problem is why I have so much trouble making offwidth videos. They are mostly faff! Faffing with the gear, the rope, breathing… it’s so slow. I tried to keep the interesting bits and keep a flow. Love to have some feedback if you think of anything!
