      That would be hilarious!!! By the way, about that hood, have you ever felt the weight of the hood on these Velosters? They are RIDICULOUSLY heavy for as small as they are. I don't think any car that I have ever owned has had a hood that heavy and I have owned some old cars with much bigger hoods in the past, the oldest two being a 1965 and 1968 Mustang. My more recent, newer cars have pretty much all had aluminum hoods but the Veloster's hood has to be solid steel and a lot of it. They weigh a ton.

      Roger Goodman Yea I agree. It’s not going to take that long to pull the head off and check it. Especially considering the 1k engine is definitely a used engine so it’ll have miles on it and unknown internals as well so I’d much rather repair what’s in there already given the option.

      @@mcearl8073 : It's a shame we seem to live in a "throw it away when it breaks" world nowadays instead of taking the time to try & fix it...Well, actually it kinda works out for me with all the lawn mowers, weed wackers, snow blowers & other things with small engines that I've rescued over the years from stupid rich peoples trash! It allows me to make extra cash for my car projects when I fix & sell them! Most of the time all I have to do is put a new correct spark plug in (alot of idiots must think only 1 type of spark plug is made) & clean out the carb & fuel tank & they run like new.

    • @mcearl8073
      @mcearl8073 5 лет назад +4

      Roger Goodman Trust me, I hear it every day. I have a shoe repair shop and I hear “I’ll just go buy new ones” multiple times every day. Sometimes I tell them it’s time to buy new but I’ll get guys that buy these hunting boots that they only wear a few times a year so they are like new but the soles are crumbling to bits because they are made out of this degradable urethane soles that fall apart whether you wear them or not and I explain to them that I’d put on a good Vibram sole that’s never going to fall apart and I warranty them to stay on the boots until they actually wear them out and it’s usually 85-95 bucks and they say they can go buy a new pair for a not much more than that. Well no shit you can, but it’s still more expensive and they’ll only last a few years of you wearing them 2-3 times a year and when they do fall apart the manufacturer isn’t going to do anything for you because they are well past any warranty they provide OR you could spend less money and have a much better sole that’s not going to disintegrate and have a warranty that if anything ever happens you have a local guy to fix it without any hassle or shipping or anything. The irony is for every one of those people I get one or two people who want to put money into things that really aren’t worth putting money into. It’s very weird dealing with people. Most people these days just don’t care. I’ll see these guys all over town wearing suits or nice dress clothes and they have some nasty looking department store shoes on that are rolled over on the sides and for about the same cost they could be wearing some nice shoes that would look much better and their feet, legs and back would feel better. They’d just need to make the initial investment and then instead of tossing them out for a new pair get them repaired as needed.
      I do think times are changing a bit. I’m seeing the younger generation being a bit more conscientious about just tossing things out and they are starting to buy better things and hang on to them. I think the baby boomers were the worst as far as just flat out wastefulness goes.

    I had a similar situation where the keeper fell out on one valve and the piston would slap and push the valve back up. How I figured it out was when I took it for ac drive once I hit 40 mph the noise would stop. I Figured out that once the cylinder built enough pressure the valve stay up on it's own. It eventually came back once you decreased the speed.

    Here is a suggestion. If you want a dually diesel truck go onto GSA.gov they do auctions for government vehicles. At my first unit we had 3 duallys 2 ford f350s crew cab dually 4x4s and one chevy duramax crew cab dually 4x4 all of them had less than 90k when we gave them back to gsa for them to auction. I assure you its a good deal. And we always took good care of them apart from dents and scratches working them. Plus you might find one with cool accessories like the chevy had a full plow kit and salt spreader.

    • @r3alfish
      @r3alfish 5 лет назад

      AMC guy the only thing that's bad about those vehicles is in many cases they idle a lot. Kind of like a cop car, of course it depends on the use they had but, many of them are used for security trucks and things like that and even if they're not, they commonly go past service intervals with them and don't care, I used to work in places that serviced the GSA motor pool vehicles and many times the driver of these kind of vehicles would come in and say, " it's two quarts low on oil, but just Add oil because they don't want it changed today" so in my up opinion that would be taking a heck of a gamble.

    A lot of people don't realize that some years of Hyundai and kia use the same engines. The 1.6 was in the Kia Rio and Soul base.

      its how Hyundai makes money. They are smart, they use the same engine and layout across the whole line. Easy to repair and cheap to build.

    GDI engines have a habit of building up a ton of carbon on the backside of the valves. It's possible that some crap got stuck underneath the valve preventing it from closing completely and now the Piston is tapping on it it probably does have a bent valve now but I would definitely pull the head off first and take a look at it if it's just head damage that's easier than pulling the entire engine out. And if you find that it has damaged the Piston also at that point you have a easier to pull out engine because you got less crap on the top of it.
    either way you should be able to make a pretty good profit when you resell it.

  • @racoco319

    It has a cylinder 4 rod knock. Be sure to change the o rings on the injectors after you replace the engine, and change the hard line for the high pressure fuel pump, and torque both high pressure fuel pump line nuts to 28ft lbs. Easy flip my man!

    So - how long before you apply for a dealer's license? You're getting to be pretty good at this "find, fix, & flip" stuff. The end result is that you're raising the $ for a new (or at least gently used) R8 engine, right?

    BITD my Datsun WPL510 sounded just like that, after my DA EX-Father in Law worked on the engine. He had forgotten to check the position of the timing chain tensioner / guide. It had slipped out of position and the noise was the chain slack hitting the engine case. Good luck. Narragansett Bay

    Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engines suffer from heavy carbon deposits on the valves because of the fuel being atomized directly in the cylinder. Might just be heavily carbonized valves!!

    • @andreab6271
      @andreab6271 5 лет назад

      That can lean to damage too. Oil catch can a must on GDI!

  • @Se7nn
    @Se7nn 4 года назад

    @WatchJRGo, don't assume you need a dually. A one ton is definitely a great option, but a standard 4 tire 1 ton is very capable of hauling big loads. My neighbor has used a 1 ton GMC and now a 1 ton Ford to pull a 42' enclosed gooseneck loaded with 10k pounds of cars and tools easily.

  • @iduimovic

    That veloster shows how the owner neglected all the services and just drove it now. I bet it is the carbon build up on the valves because of the GDI plus any sludge for lack of oil change it is making the valve sticking and create that noise. With a head removal and proper cleaning and do a service to the entire car, I will be back to the road running perfect. Those engines can take 300K without an issue if it is properly service and maintain.

    11:24 I worked at Hyundai when the turbo velosters came out. My first time driving it I was so pissed haha. I found out back at the shop that the car will always start in default mode, you HAD to press the Turbo/Sport button for it to be any fun. If you didn't press it, it drove normally. It was decently fun in the Turbo/Sport mode though (for being a '12 Hyundai Veloster) !
