- My first free car! Chris watches the channel and reached out to me on twitter ( / watchjrgo1198 . He said he had an old Accord and was going to scrap it or I could come get it. The car started right up when I got there and it made a horrendous power steering noise just like he said. We're going to drag it home, fix it, and try to have it back out of my life before the lockdown starts.

I paid 20K for that same model and color back in 2002. I loved that car and it was free?? Wow! LOL!!
Gotta love depreciation lol. That's why I won't buy new cars anymore.
It would still be worth a few bucks if it wasn't so totally rusted out. That's the kind of thing you see up north a lot.
@@zxggwrt not true it is worth $1000 . Just the catyltic converter is worth $450 the guy who gave it away is a dumbass
@@zxggwrt Don't think of it as rust. Think of it as weight reduction.
@@dylanbenker2043 By few bucks I mean real money. $1000 is ok but if it was in superior condition I could get twice that or more.

I was TOTALLY SHOCKED to see you with a car with broken hood struts...wait..nevermind!
A new set online is $20 too, not like they're expensive
I've aquired alot of cars with sticks.. Man, why do people not take care of that, they are soo easy.
@@doylesmith8678 because it's easier to just use a prop lol
6:55 - chip transponder key. Other key locks glovebox/ doors.
I work at a Honda dealer. A long time customer gave me a 2002 Accord V6 that was towed in with a broken ball joint and a previously diagnosed slipping trans. Oddly enough he had bought the car from us when I first started working and the dealership 10 years ago. New Lower ball joints, 1 strut. 1 axle and fixing leaking sunroof drains that flooded the interior and she was good to go. Great driving car with plenty of power. Sold it to a friend for his daughter’s first car with the disclaimer that trans was weak and the car would be done once the trans went. It was still going strong up until 2 weeks ago when she totaled it.
His face changed from 7:01 to 7:06 when the Honda didn’t start. 😂
He should have traded it for some toilet paper
Dunno if this is what caused it, but for older cars that may not have started in a while, you just gotta keep the key in the “on” position and wait a bit to let the fuel pump prime up.
My mom’s car does it sometimes when it hasn’t started in a few days, and it only has around 70k miles.
It’s because them Honda’s have a anti thrift mode I have a 8th gen civic I can’t start it unless I have the original key because there’s a sensor that disables the anti theft
@@jacksonshelton8055 cycle the key a couple times then try it.
i got a 2000 honda accord, its the "immobilizer system" for the car. if you use the wrong key it wont start at all.
The silver key doesn't have the transponder in it... Use for emergency door opening...
Exactly what I was thinking.
Richard Cole i thought the hardware store was ripping me off my honda’s need codes keys
That’s what I have as well.
I keep one of those in my wallet for emergency use in case I lock my keys in the car. I have done this with every car I have owned. It saved my butt once when I locked the keys in the car with the engine running at a gas station.
Honda power steering pumps are loud if you don’t use certain fluid
True. I wouldnt have known this, but I had to fill mine recently
Yep, different formula - need to use Honda power steering fluid, rather than the generic stuff.
dingding
Agreed! I owned 3 Honda's and very familiar with their power steering fluids... guess why I know it lol !
It's best to run them dry. Or put some rocks and dirt in them
O'Reilly Auto Parts: "Oh, you again?"
Just bought a $200 accord today thanks for the inspiration
You don't add fluid to the brake reservoir. If the reservoir is low, either you have a leak or your brakes are worn.
Or you were thirsty and drank it. Mmmmm
These V6 accords are worth saving. So nice fully loaded with the fake wood, leather, heated seats, sunroof, alloy rims, and of course the upgraded V6 engine instead of 4Cyl. Kinda like Camry LE vs XLE v6
I've had a white '01 Accord V6 Ex for almost 2 years, was my first car. Had the trans rebuilt when it stopped locking the torque converter after I bought it around 180k. Now I'm nearing 200k and she works amazing. The J30a1 is a tank of an engine if you treat her right.
Other little things, I also love the "full auto" AC control, as well as the coin holder to the left of the steering wheel is the perfect size to fit and dispense a pack of Extra gum. The Premium audio is very good, 6.5s and tweeters up front and 6x9s in the rear deck (although I upgraded mine). Love this car
I’d love to have a flip challenge with ya 😂 - Rabbit
Had a 98 Accord EX with the 3.0. Loved that car. I drove it for years and then both my kids drove it. That’s a lot of rust for a Honda in Wichita it seems to me.
The green light is the immobilizer light for the key. meaning it's not programmed to be recognized by the immobilizer unit, or it simply just doesn't have a chip which in that case it's just a key to unlock the door. I actually work professionally at a Honda dealership and I have come to appreciate these little cars. It interests me and sometimes frustrates me watching other people try and work on honda because i'm either impressed that they understand what they are doing or I want to pull my hair out watching them haha. From other video's I feel like you have a decent knowledge base when it comes to these cars so keep up the good work! It's the newer systems that can start to give you headaches, but you learn to appreciate them so don't be scared to buy a newer honda!! So long as you have the right scan tools that will access information/learning procedures that otherwise would not be accessible.
The way JR snaps his fingers, and points at the camera, is just so frickin cool, he IS the man!
That trans could probably survive a bit longer with a double drain and refill of Honda ATF.
Not the American versions. I did the same thing. I somehow managed 197k out of mine, when most bricked out at 90k. Ended up grabbing a JDM trans. 100% smoother, and I do regular trans flush about every 6 months.
For Honda’s ONLY USE GENUINE HONDA POWER STEERING FLUID!!!!
I use DEXCOOL for ALL my fluids
Every Honda owner everywhere. 😮
100%.. same for Automatic Transmission fluid.
hey guys can you check this listing and tell me what i should pay for this car or even if i should buy it i dont know cars well quite frankley. i would love a honda or Toyota regular 4 cylinder car no turbo boast or fuel help but they either already got 200k miles or have extreme cosmetic damage for ones in my price range
Lockdown huh?? Damn!! We're still free in Oklahoma. For now! Good luck man, stay safe.
I guess you should be busy exploring your new home... new Tesla... thinking about new Copart walk around... Well Tk is doing Good ...
Tulsa Oklahoma went on lockdown today
Technically my county isn’t restricted at all... mostly farmland 💯
In the UK we have a weird half lockdown... The air is the clearest ever due to no planes and limited traffic. When you breathe in, you can smell.grass and cold, instead of diesel fumes. Very odd
@@blackcountryme now think about how clean the air is in China where they temporarily shut down all the factories. Probs the cleanest air in 200 years hahah

+1 from Cleveland!
Cleveland yoooo this Honda cleaner than my 04 🤣🤣
The reason for the key is because it’s an immobilizer one is the valet key and one is the actual key to start the car. (Chip in the key for the immobilizer)
I have the same Silver V6 2000 - 250K miles from new and no problems or significant rust. Great car! Would love to have one like this as a source of parts, especially the interior as mine is showing its mileage! There was also a recall issued for these Accords for the airbag so good to mention to the next owner to get fixed.
JR, you don’t know how long I been waiting for a Honda video
hondas are the best. confirmed that in my vids lol
JR my dad got the same car new. That is a factory Clarion Radio in the Accord the radio is nice Accord EXVL quick fun ride

I hope that PS fluid was for Hondas I used universal once and within 1000 miles all seals were leaking and bearing was toast
Mmm toast. After that it tasted better
This type of video is my favorite . Find - Fix - Flip
Replacing the power steering pump: 5 minutes
Cleaning up all the spilled and leaking power steering fluid: 1 hour
This episode reminds me of cars where I grew up in NY that rusted because of the salt on the roads in the winter.. My dad had a Ford Pinto and a Chevy Nova. On both cars you could watch the road go through the floorboards or the bottoms of the doors as you were driving along. Cheap transportation to get to work and pay the bills...
I replaced the pressure line on a 98 Prelude and YES it was a major pain in the A$$. Getting it off want so bad it was putting it back on. Trying to screw the hard line into the rack was not easy when you can't see and only one hand!! Great video as always!! Tail light gaskets are known to go bad and water leaks in them. It's pretty common on most Honda's.
Going hard late into the night!!! Good job man. Will definitely make a great car for someone to get around in. Also you really need that t-shirt for buying hood struts with every car.
I had a power steering pump fail on my 01 Accord while I was on the interstate three hours from home. Made for a really interesting drive. Great arm workout going in and out of a McDonald's parking lot for dinner :D. It was in about the same shape as this pump here - lots of shaft play, horrific grinding noises, etc.
Good cars, I like these gen Accords.
That car is very well made, despite the rust and trans issues. Even before making repairs, it started up after sitting for so long. That's definitely a credit to how well made Honda engines are.
Trans will cost about 1800 to rebuild! Run it til it drops or flops! LOL! Get a used tire on the front, it is not worth putting a new tire on it if the trans is slipping, it may not go more than down your street one more time! lol For $300 someone can junk it when it stops moving and make money on it! I have an 03 V6 accord and those power steering pumps go out a lot. I have put 3 on my car, they are easy to do, thank God. Thanks for sharing! Take care and God bless you all!
Green key light is when security on it confirms you transponder key is correct. If you put a key that isn't coded for the car -key pairs it will not start. It stores up to 4.
The Green Key light just means the key is in the car but it's weird how the other key doesn't start the car never seen that one before
I have to give you Thumps up on the quick turn-over. I know the company's that make the lift struts for hoods and trunks are grateful for your work.
Don’t worry, I hear JR has a car he can work on at home during quarantine.
I had a white 98 accord coupe with the V6 I loved that car. They definitely get up and go. I also have a 2000 Acura TL which is basically the same thing as the accord just luxury and abut more power. Transmission slips bad in it now but it was a fun car to drive 😎.
It's interesting to watch you diagnose repair and basically give away the cars. Totally awesome.
Lock a vice grip onto bad hood struts to hold them, using sticks is dangerous because they are easy to knock over.
Honda in Australia are buying this era accords, civics and CRV’s back due to the airbag recall and crushing them all. It’s a huge deal at the moment. I’m a tow truck operator and I’ve towed so many crv’s and accord’s to their death.
They're fixing them for free here in the states. Had a buddy with a 2003ish Oddessey van under the Takada airbag recall, took it in last year and they replaced all the airbags free of charge in 1 day. On a 15+year old van with 300,000 miles on it. Makes no sense that they'd buy back the cars, that has to be WAY more expensive than replacing the parts, plus I'd be pissed if I owned something like that old van, super reliable still but only worth $1800 tops.
We had a minivan with the same family of v6 motor. Drove it for 12 yrs and over 240k with little issues. Hardest thing I had to do was break the pulley bolt loose in order to change the timing belt. Anyway, great motor and super bullet proof car that was easy to work on. We finally sold it on to another family because the interior was worn out and the parts to fix various issues were more than the car was worth. It needed a lot of small things done. One thing odd is that the seal material on the rear door fixed window had turned gummy and sticky. In contrast to this car, our van had no rust but the interior was shot. That's the difference between an Arizona and Kansas car.
Watching this is September 2021: we're still in the two week lockdown to flatten the curve!!! 🤣
New Honda Transmission Fluid - ATF Z1, Mobile 1 Synthetic Motor Oil, and now Honda suggested DOT4 for the brake systems. Keep your old Honda's running another 10+ years.
We’re under lockdown in Michigan! I’m trying to do a day by day video series as to surviving it, Making money has gotten almost impossible, So we’re building rock sliders for out Jeep!!!! Keep up the flipping jr. Good work
Bro I just got a 99 V6 accord.
Engine works good, BUT transmission doesn’t engage. U can put p-N-D and nothing
Such a waste of an otherwise wonderful car. Can't understand why Honda let that transmission/6 cyl. problem go for so many years. Thanks JR, Hondas are good cars.
My '04 Odyssey has the black keys and a grey key. The grey key is what they call a Valet Key and will not work if the black key is present in the vehicle. It is designed to allow the vehicle to start and be driveable for for a limited amount of time for valet parking only.
You can just undo the return line and block off the return nipple with a short piece of hose and clamp. Put the return line in a container and turn the steering from lock to lock without starting, wheels must be in the air. Keep the reservoir full and wait until you see clear fluid. Much safer this way, works on any vehicle.
That's definitely the the noise of a dead honda p/s pump. Suuuuuper common problem and the hose as well. You can get aftermarket hoses nowadays from Gates or ACDelco. Usually the O-ring to the pump fails first, but hose problems on the J-series engines are common. I'd recommend doing a rebuild on the p/s pump instead of after market. You can get a rebuild kit from Honda fairly inexpensive the the aftermarket pumps are garbage typically. Same with the p/s rack. OEM or OEM rebuild only
oh and you want to use honda specific p/s fluid and the key to the flare nut is a flared crowfoot with an extension and breaker bar to avoid the cut off wheel ;)
My friend had a v6 coupe. Thing was pretty wild. Pulled away from most cars he would race
I had a 1980s Pontiac Sunbird with no power, and a leaking power steering pump. I gave up filling the fluid and did manual steering for about 6 months, until the pulley bearing failed and the pulley fell off, so the battery was not charging. The auto parts store guy had never seen an old pump with the shaft in 2 pieces. I fixed it in the auto parts store parking lot, during a 10 hour drive for a job interview. I got the job. The Sweet Project Cars videos show how to make old leather seats look better.
I believe when bleeding power steering you are supposed to turn the wheel lock to lock with the engine off multiple times with the wheels off the ground before starting the vehicle.
genius move to use the p/s fluid to give the car the honda the "Royal Flush Spa Treatment"
You don’t loose torque with an extension. You loose torque when not at a straight angle. So as long as it’s 100% straight it will be good.
My friends and I bought a 2004 Hyundai Sonata for $280 for a beater car race. It was wrecked so there was no saving it. The low pressure power steering line dumped all its fluid out right after we bought the car. I cut the bad section out and replaced it with some fuel line and hoseclamps, then I overfilled the reservoir so it would have more fluid. It held for both races we had it in, and about a month ago I went to take the car out of my friends garage (yes it survived the races) and the line leaked. It held up for 6 months!
I want a free Accord! I paid $250 for my 2.3l three and a half years ago! :)
That accord had way more wrong with it than you saw. Jr is going to scrap it, and return the pump to the store.
You paid $250 too much
Green flashing light in the gauge cluster is an immobilizer and sometimes something an block the signal from the transponder to the car causing it to just sit there and crank.
never been this early. lucky i woke up from my nap when i did.
wya where its naptime haha
@@DmDetails it's always naptime somewhere.
Don't forget to change the, "main fuel relay" cause the soldering inside the og relay tends to crack and on hot days impossible to start.
If I could work on the Honda with Watch JR Goes I would drink the cold Bartle Skeets and roll up the fat Woolford and get all schmoked up.
I would be interested in buying a flip car from you. I just need something to get me to and from work. I dont care what it looks like, just something that runs halfway decent. I love watching your channel. I live in West Wichita.
$300 for a 3.0L V6 Accord? Thats a huge steal.
Figured if I got it for free the next guy should too, it was $300 in parts so that's what he got it for 🍻
I love the sound of an old Honda starter motor
Awesome video! Still looking to find an old Accord like that... well, maybe without all the rust. Can't wait to see what you work on next!
So glad you’re doing more of these videos
Yep it’s the security system. Those old accords and civics don’t like when you put the wrong keys in them.
They will like what i tell them to like. They like hammers
I had to take my driver’s test on my dad’s1966Mustang fastback. High beam switch on the floor 3 speed stick no power brakes and no power steering. If you had to brake clutch downshift and turn high beams off good luck. It was highland green though.
Black key is the main key as it has a chip init to tell the ecu thats it is the correct key the blank metel key is used to lock the truck/ gloveblox if it has the trunk lock
Those have subframe rust issues. Major safety issue. Make sure that's OK on this car.
This is my first car from 16 years ago. Still have it with 98k miles on it 👍🏽
I owned the next gen Honda Accord (2006) for ten years (same engine) and 140,000 before I lost the dashboard, transmission, and overhead display all at once. My choice was to rebuild everything or dump the car - I chose to dump it. Great car for those 10 years however. Many Hondas back then had premium makes like Pioneer (as mine had). Not surprising it was a good radio.
Hey JR, just wondering, why do you never show/tell us how much profit you make off individual flips? Would love to see the breakdown! Great video :)
I made $0 on this one. I figured if I got the car free I better pass it on! 💯
So the tax man can’t get him lol.
@@WatchJRGo Haha thanks for the response dude! Cheers!
Next time prime the pump with some fluid it could cause damage before it can suck it from the reservoir great video
I am having trouble understanding how using an extension on an impact driver reduces the torque by half. Not the physics I was taught in school!
I don’t know the scientific number (there’s really not one) but I can demonstrate the loss in the real world any day of the week. On a constant torque device it’s almost none. On a 1/2” impact through a 3/8” extension it’s nearly 50% you can overcome it by bumping the impact up again. 🍻
It is called twisting... The torque twists the extension to some extent so some energy is lost.
What Max wrote. The metal extension literally bends/twists when you apply force on it, and the longer the extension the more force is lost (ie not reaching the bolt).
As an example in an extreme case, think of a rubber band. The longer the band, the more force is lost (you can twist the mess out of it). The metal doesn't lose that much energy, obviously, but it's the same principle.
They make torque limiters for impact wrenches using the same theory. The thinner ones are springy and have a lower torque rating. I wouldn't trust them with my nuts but the theory is sound. Use torque wrench only.
17:17 The top-of-the-line radio in this generation had a 6-CD changer, you got the mid-grade radio.
Here in Aus that car would be wreck only, it would never be allowed to be registered without that rust being fully repaired.
You can pull a PS pump for $18 in San Antonio TX at wrench a part.
I love the picknpull here in Chicago
I like the 2x4 roof strut.
Oh man, hopefully it's gone asap
Guy was like “I’ll be there in 20 minutes” and he was 🍻
"We'll hit that nut real hard." Ouch. Take it easy Mr. Jay Argo!
For bad hood struts just use vice grips too hold her up.Wood is dangerous dude lol
The other key unlocks the back seat so you can add trunk space
Sad the homelink wasnt standard in my 06 4 cylinder exl accord but was standard on my 06 v6 accord. Figured if gen 6 had them in the v6, the gen 7 would have them on all (4&6 cylinder) ex and exl models.
My power steering pump went out but it has power assist. Turning wasn't that bad. $300 isn't that bad of a deal for that car.
I had that same issue (not as loud as that Accord, but very noticeable) with my 02 Nissan Maxima a few years ago. I told the mechanics and they said "we didn't hear anything", so I stupidly just let it go because I got sick of trying to fix it myself and a "AAA certified" mechanic shop to do it. 2 months later, I'm going 60 mph and as I was slowing down for a curve in the road, tried to turn the wheel and...let's just say I flipped the car...literally .
I bought one of these V6 accords brand new back in '01. My ex wife only sold it a couple of years ago with almost 300,000miles on her, bad clear coat and a leaking rear main seal. Amazing cars and even more amazing in the Canadian rust belt.
Seriously this is very little rust... I'd try trans fix liquid to save it for a few months.
Not using Honda Power steering fluid? This used to get people heated
Yep. O’Reilly’s sells an off brand Honda specific power steering fluid too.
The green key that is displayed on the instrument cluster means that key was canceled so it wouldn’t start the car anymore
Black key only works because it’s chipped that’s why the indicator came on, on the dash the other key can be used for doors and trunk
What's the mileage on that Honda JR?
I was wondering that too
Best car DIY flipping channel on RUclips, even better than Goon Squad.
Goon Squad is in my hometown of Chattanooga.
7:15 On Honda's, if the key is not programmed, it won't start and crank forever. However, all keys *should start the car, nothing odd about valet's.
Yup, the valet key should always start the car... this was super weird. 🍻
Long time fan and commenter. I need a car bad! My clunker hasnt run since the flood and now city is fining me for it sitting in driveway! (crooks) I'll pay 350!
I had a 1999 Honda Accord v6 that I traded in with over 250,000 miles, bought with 48,000 miles. The low fuel light never worked, and it would start chugging and shutting down when the gas gauge hit "E".
I had to do the high pressure hose on my odyssey which is essentially the same and I had to do pretty much the same thing. Threading on the new one was also a pita.
