I BOUGHT A Geo Metro For $300 And FIXED It In ONE DAY

- Not only did I buy a Geo Metro, I bought the rare XFi trim with the best fuel mileage. It was rated the Most Fuel Efficient Vehicle In America for it's entire production run. This Geo Metro was $300 as the owner said it was broken but Tyler had no issues driving it to my house. Once we got it home I cleaned it up with Gabe, then we fixed in a few minutes and went out to get 1/4 mile times from it. It only cost $50 to fix, and only takes 17 seconds to do 60mph. At least it was easy to sell, I posted it and it was paid for in less than 10 minutes.

I had one of these I paid 500.00 for, it had 62,000 miles on it and belonged to a Nursing home. I was going to work one morning and a guy ran a red light and swiped the front end, I got 1400.00 from his insurance and fixed it myself for 300.00, next a lady backed into me at Walmart and caved in the passenger door, 650.00 for that and I repaired it for 75.00 with a door that was the same color. Then about a year later my neighbors tree fell on the roof and the insurance totalled it @ 2400,00, I sold it to another neighbors kid for the engine and transmission for 500.00 so I managed to make about 3700.00 off that little car and drove it for 3 years !!!
Damn lol what some luck for sure with that car gezz . but I'm really surprised the insurance paid off that much that many times before finally calming it as can't be fixed.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
The storytelling here is impeccable.
Right on, great story
It wouldn't hurt my feelings if someone totaled my $500 civic with wrinkled sheet metal. Runs great (like all Hondas) but I want a shinier one. Damn, my neighbor doesn't have any trees!
Jerry Berryhill Literal cool story Bro. 😁
1993 Geo Metro gets 53 mpg.
2019 Smart Car gets 40 mpg.
With technology advancements, it should be getting at least 55.
The technology IS what make them less efficient. In a Geo you'd die for sure in a crash over 45mph. In a Smart you'd probably die in a crash over 45mph.
Some of the Geos got 62 mpg back when gas was more explosive
@@zman1745 The xfi models did which this one is.
The XFI geo made 56 hp, weighed about 1600lbs and had a manual transmissions with no accessories. You can buy a Mitsubishi Mirage that makes 76hp, power everything including A/C and automatic transmission and it gets 40mpg. The manual transmission car is faster in acceleration but the fuel economy isn't any better. The 4 cly 1.3L 79HP Metro with automatic transmission only got 30-35mpg so there is that...
John Kifflom I bought a 4 door regular metro. It had a mileage book from the previous owner.. that ranged from 60-64 mpg
I had the last model made. While others laughed at my cute Lil Geo Metro, I laughed all the way to the bank with gas savings, for 15 years.
I'm sure they were laughing with you, not at you...
@M Harris Lol, it fit me fine. I'm little. I loved that car, and I miss it.
I had a 97 metro for 2 years, got insane gas mileage out of it and just enjoyed driving it. One day lent it to a friend who crashed it completely writing it off. Now I am buying a Suzuki Alto Works from Japan!

Luckily I haven't had many scratches, but sometimes it's just unavoidable. So if you value your car be careful these things are skateboards with engines
Oh man, my first brand new car was a 2 door hatchback Geo Metro LSi (it was all white, including bumpers)! I absolutely loved that thing! I had it for 12 years before some (redacted) in a jacked up 4x4 literally ran over it. The cost to fix the crushed side panels and doors was more than book value, so the insurance company totaled it. For such a small, under-powered vehicle, it was super reliable, comfortable to drive, and with the back seats folded down, held a surprising amount of stuff! For a girl right out of high school, the Geo Metro was affordable enough to buy, insure, and keep gassed on a minimum wage job. I miss that little thing...
Back when gas prices went insane, I was selling these for $2000+. I had several contractors chop the back off of them, and make pickups out of them.
Back when the average price was $4 on up, there were some very clean metros on ebay selling in the 5k to 10k range. It was ridiculous
@@Ka_Gg Yes I remeber that specifically.

Look up the Suzuki Swift 1990s 1,3L GL. It's basically the exact same car, from the looks of this video at least. I did not watch the whole video, but this car looks a lot like my own Suzuki Swift 1,3L GL 1995 Sedan model. It is my first and only car, so I also really love cars like this.
The Suzuki Swift is practically indestructible. They lasted FOREVER. You needed to spend a grand total of 0$ on it... just put in gas, change oil from time to time and it got you from point A to point B in any temperature, any weather. It's a really great car.
I daily a 91 convertible. Its a 5 speed and i love driving it, except when it rains 😂😂😂
You get a lot of them in India - try them if you ever get here.
It sucks cause pussy baby safety laws don't let cars be tiny anymore.
Gotta love the simplicity of this cars. You dont have to be rich to travel wherever you want with great gas milleage, reliability and basic maintnance costs. To me, this is the biggest appeal of motor transportation, not being able to do a 0-60 in 4 seconds or topspeed of 200mph
I owned a 90 Metro. Delivered pizzas in it all through high school. Met my wife of 27 years in it, too!
And make no mistake, they were quite peppy. I got clocked by an Illinois State Trooper doing 95 in a 55 zone. He was so surprised I was going that fast in that car he didn't impound it. Just wrote me a ticket and told me to slow down, lol.
If he impounded it, it would have cost more to get it out than you payed for the car...
This was in 1992, it was only 2 years old with 18k miles on it. I paid $2400 for it.
@@MatthewWathen Wow, back when America was possible!😬

I’ve been dying to get me a metro. I fell absolutely in love with them a couple of years ago when I saw a beautiful bright blue one around my house for 2k for sale on the side of the road. First time I had ever seen one before, and I was ready to take all the money out of the account my mom had made for me just to buy it. I was about 18 at the time and my mom didn’t was like “All you’re gonna do is drive it around to see your friends” AS IF THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN A BAD THING!!!! 😤😩😬 I never got it and I regret it to this day
This is the perfect car if your single and just want to go home from the pizza store to paint your Warhammer action figures after a long day. 🤔
Hey I own one and paint Warhammer I also enjoy pizza beer, dabs and pornhub thank you very much leave me and my flesh light out of this
This seems oddly specific.
@Route 66 Texas You can deliver for Doordash in a GEO!
@Route 66 Texas nothing wrong with that.
A car commonly driven by "bottoms".
I own a red 1997 Metro. It maybe slow but it has kept me from getting speeding tickets and I love the gas mileage. Paint job is fading bad and the interior is all coming apart but I wouldn't trade it for anything.
The perfect project car. Cheap to buy, simple to work on, and inexpensive parts.
I love these little GEO 3 bangers. I bought one from a school teacher that had 52k original miles and drove it from '98 till 2012. It had 239k on the odometer when I sold it to my neighbor and he is still driving it. I was a fanatic about preventative maintenance and it paid off with being very reliable. 3 timing belts, spark plugs a few times and several brake jobs, tires and shocks. No major failures. If I could buy a brand new one today I would. Averaged 45 mpg with the 5 speed. I told everybody its 4 tires and a steering wheel and nothing more.
That car is so very Rock n' Roll, I'd love to own one especially for 1st dates. It would clear the field in a hurry to a genuine partner.
I changed a engine in one of those cars I unbolted the engine and reached in with both hands and pulled it buy my self. At least you don’t need a cherrypicker.
Me and a friend did the same thing with 2.3 Ford engine. It wasn't easy but we lifted it right out.
Yes I changed the transmission, pulled it out with one hand.
Wow so impressive you can lifet 100 pound
I have a friend who rebuilds these for a living. He says he pulls the engine out by hand like you did, rebuilds it on the kitchen table while eating his Capn Crunch.
Sets it back in. Job done.
They actually use these engines for some light aircraft.
This is very similar to my Geo Metro story. I bought a 1991 Geo Metro XFi back in 2003 for $300 in Sunland, CA. The seller told me the clutch was bad and for the price I took his word for it. Turns out he was correct. It only cost me $250 to fix it. I daily drove it for a few months then randomly had the idea to convert it into a pickup truck. I had zero experience with such a task, but figured with such a minimal investment this was the perfect car to experiment with. Things turned out better than I expected. I lined the bed with blue astro turf, put a system in it, racing stripes, then I threw it on eBay and it sold for $2000!
"This could be a 19 second car... Think about it, guys. That's blazin"
Love Geo's for the "feels like we're going 50, but going 35" feature ^_^
I can attest to this. 60 in my XFI feels like 75 in my Focus.
I daily one of these! Bought it a year ago, 207,000 miles for $300. It popped it's head gasket. I replaced the head gasket and had the head machined for about $180. Been dailying it since and getting about 40 mpg. 3 cylinder, 5 speed, 48hp/60lb/ft!

I had that EXACT car like 15 years ago! I loved it to death. You see that rust on the front fenders? I can almost guarantee that the "frame horns" are rotten. It's very typical on these and can be deadly. The wingnut on the air-cleaner is factory, the oil in the air intake is from a clogged PCV valve they ALL do that (mine did). This engine is non-interference so pop a timing belt and nothing happens, I did it quite a few times. These things blow headgaskets like clockwork tho...

These things don't blow head gaskets much at all. I had several of these and never had a head gasket go bad. Now, there was an aftermarket head gasket that people used on these that were bad that a lot of people were using, but no issues with felpro gaskets

There was no part of the exterior of the car that wasn't dented/smashed in, including the top. And the interior was torn and "painted" black...even the gauges, dash and door panels..at least the ones that were there. Why? anybody's guess. But I was wanting to learn the skills of auto-body repair and took it and started refurbishing that "thing". After many failures in body work, I finally understood the skills to repair the metal properly and when I finished that refurbishing, it look absolutely new inside and out. We even sewed new seat covers and installed new carpet and everything back to new. Lots of work, but I did learn auto-body repair...finally!

I bet they drive Geo Metro's in Heaven- especially in that color!!!..lol
Up there they have about 1,000 HP though lol
I didn’t think you were supposed to spray the engine with water at the car wash 😳
Right. It could crack a hot exhaust manifold as the metal would unevenly contract when cooling. They grounded out the plug wires and got the distributer cap wet, so
it would not start until they dried all that out. Interesting that they sold it on without repairing the exhaust leak. Not cool.
When gas was $4 a gallon, these were selling on ebay for $7k
I had a Suzuki Swift 1993 and I remember I had to buy the 2nd passenger Mirror. Before selling it I actually washed all the interior in the washing machine. Took all the cloth seat covers off with the floor carpet and washed it twice in a commercial washing machine... car never looked so good lol
holy shit. years ago you and i had talked about doing a collaboration video back when we were both motorcycle channels. both of us were getting maybe a hundred views per video if we were lucky. it never happened and i gave up because i couldnt make the content. glad to see you got success. happy for you.
Looks like something my dad would drive! Oh wait he already does!
7:00 chrisfix has entered the chat with a trash bag and some tape
Taj should of said soapy wooder
All those old car’s smell the same a combo of cigarettes, beer and BO!
Doesn’t mater which make, model or year !🤮
Beer the most
I have a 99 Metro 4 dr with the performance engine 1.3 ltr 16 valve 4 cylinder 79hp at 6000 rpm. It's the loaded up model with 3 speed automatic, air conditioning AM-FM CD player. I paid $300.00 for it got it home and put on a new timing belt and a set of 155 80 13 tires. It will peg out the 85 mph speedometer eventually and turns in 40 mpg. I've put nearly 60,000 miles on it...love it. Those little cars are tough as nails.
You got a steal. I just bought an XFI for much more than that and there was a lot of competition for it. I feel lucky just to have it been able to buy it
There’s a ground issue at the fuse panel under the drivers side. Common issue
Yup...that plastic panel on one of mine got hot and melted. I put an after market cruise control on it and found the problem poking around in the wires under the dash.
"this is not worth a lot of money" I say with the price of gas nowaday, this is worth a brand new car just in gas savings alone !
So then I guess my Yamaha Zuma is like the cream of the crop I get 123 miles per gallon lol
@@dylanbenker2043 If you can use it year round that's good. No such luck where i live
@M Harris Consider petrol is over £6.00 a gallon (UK) here, that works out at nearly $8.00 a gallon... so, you really shouldn't moan about the price of fuel till you've lived and driven somewhere it's a lot more expensive!!
@@TheYorkMan 8 DOLLARS A GALLON? MAN I MIGHT DIE AT THE PUMP LOL
@@SasukeUchiha-nv3oo My 97 dodge ram gets about 11-12 mpg after sitting in it for my hour lunch with the AC on. I don't think I'd ever drive it again if I had to pay $8 at the pump.
I had a brand new Geo Metro XFI in 1990. That thing was awesome on gas and changing the plugs was too easy.
David in Barstow Remember what you paid for it new? I’m just curious.
My first car was a 1993 Geo Metro. 1.0L, 3sp Auto. I could fill it up for $10 and drive nearly 500 miles. I always wanted one in a manual just to have as a city runner.
Also JR, you NEED the Metro Convertible!!!!
I bought a 2 door one of these in 1991 when I was 18. New off the dealer floor for about $6,000! A couple days later we drove it from Minneapolis to Chicago on a single tank of gas. 50+mpg easy.
Me and my cousin blew the motor in my aunts brand new Geo Metro. Driving it from Wichita to Pitt state and back at a floored 80 mph the entire way. 3 Cylinders of fury!
Lol. That's what like 150 miles tops? You a gorilla alum?
@@wesch6354 yes. Grew up in Derby. Live in Oregon now.
So you freely admit that you and your cousin are colossal morons. Typical college kids.
Poor car. Here where I live, the locally produced variants of these cars are still going strong. Only die if mistreated by idiots, like in the example above.
Did the same thing in a 200k mile Corolla other than catching up with dumbasses in the fast lane. And she survived, 1zz for life
I thought it was a lawn mower when i first heard it drive up AND.....
I was right.
Your RUclips chanel is my morning routine!
People always beat the hell out of these cars.. they are Suzuki's and goes to show you how good suzuki's really are. I used to drive suzuki's all the time and they were a very reliable car as well as the tracker/suzuki side kick 4x4. i had all these and loved each one! I still want the new Jimney! nicely done guys!
I cannot stop laughing! This brings back good memories!😂😂
Such funny cars - also known as the Suzuki Swift here in the UK. Love the flip dude lmao
4:30 - Go-kart steering is ALWAYS responsive!
you mean GeO-Kart
Totally do a full restore, that would be hilarious!
I just got a low mileage 1994 Geo Metro 4 door, 5 speed with A/C, clean interior and new pearl white paint for $1100. Only has a bad fuel filter and fuel pump. It would not start till I whack the bottom of the gas tank with a piece of wood. Then I drove it sputtering 45 miles home. These things are just little workhorses.
We had a 4 Dr green one just like this. Our son hit a deer head on with it, the deer didn't survive. Called the sheriff, tagged the deer, then he loaded the dead deer in the back and drove the geo home. Sure glad the deer didn't come back to life!! Great little car. Wish they still made them.
"Low Noise" tires. That's good to know. And that's been broken into a few times, if that driver door seal is any indicator.
"This could be a 19 second car" I'm friggin' rolling.
ruclips.net/video/9sdjKUZQHKg/видео.html a 9 sec Geo
I want one cause of the insane MPGs these get!
when gas price was almost at $5 a gallon these were everywhere!
course if this has all red in the back I'd get the tail lights with the amber turn signal!
My first ever car was a 1990 Geo Prizm. Technically it was my parent’s car that was a hand-me-down at age 16. They eventually traded it in for a GMC Sierra. I wish they had just let me keep it. I bet it still runs. It’s the only car I ever drove that NEVER had a mechanical problem in 16 years of owning it.
I owned a couple of these Metros when they were new. Reliable. 36 MPG in town, 52 on the highway. Fun to drive. And I drove the wheels off of them. Everyone did. That's why you don't see them around anymore.
