I use a spare bedroom for sewing. I already have built in storage, bookcases, dressers, etc. However, I needed a place to cut, and work. My husband took a hollow core door without a doorknob hole, shortened it the width of the bed, stained and sealed it, and has attached blocks. We used the screw on legs that adjust to a wonderful standing height. When I have company, I unscrew the legs and store the door behind a dresser or it can be slid under a bed. I believe the legs are OLOV.

In my last house, I had a Stenstorp island. Currently, it is in a corner of my sewing room, with a big cutting mat on top, and Skadis pegboards on the walls to the left and back. ALL of my rulers and templates are organized on the pegboards. Great video, Kim.

Thank you for this little tutorial, some really good ideas. I particularly liked the children’s fold out thing that started with “o” for storing scissors, phone, pen etc. I also liked the suggestion for the little partitioned dish, a great way to keep small things like thread snippers, quick unpick, bobbins, presser feet, pins, all in one place by the sewing machine. I think I’ll take a trip to Ikea sometime. The chocolate moose is cute too, and your cat is adorable 😻

    I like your assistant 😻
I have assistants too which is why I always have the Bästis lint roller on hand, but mainly use it for removing bits of thread.
And I just recently got the Norden table and it’s wonderful. Thanks for all the great ideas.

Well, the chocolate moose was indeed the icing on the cake! Thanks so much for this collection of ideas that were Salem approved. My favourite IKEA item in my studio is a 12 drawer free standing Varde kitchen cabinet with a butcher block top that I use for storage of notions and fat quarters and as a work surface. I bought an additional top to create a gate-leg top suspended from the back of the cabinet. Sadly, they are no longer available.

In my small quilt studio, I use a Trofast toy storage unit from the children’s’ department. All those containers hold heaps of stuff & it fits nicely under my window sill.

I speak Swedish and IKEA names are rarely actual Swedish words. They just look like they might be. So don’t worry about pronunciation. And by the way Americans mis pronounce IKEA
